    My dad, brother and I were fishing in the Florida Keys. It was the end of August and there were huge schools of blackfin tuna everywhere, from 200 feet of water to 2000 feet of water. You could not travel more than a mile without seeing many tons for tuna birds hovering over a school of tuna.
    This video shows what lures to use to catch blackfin tuna, what troll speed should be used and many other tips to help you catch more blackfin tuna.

    ... thanks for the great tips!!! I live on the opposite Florida coast, Sarasota, but will try your method in a couple of days, as soon as the winds die down.

      How far are you going out of Sarasota? In the Gulf, you have to run really far out for tuna. If you run these rigs with a small section of wire you can catch king and Spanish mackerel though. Thanks for watching!

    What spinning reel/rod setup were you using? What size reels and line?

    • @CaptainCody7
      @CaptainCody7  Год назад

      Well for trolling we are using conventional reels. Penn Squall Levelwind 30-50 size. The larger reel is a Penn Squal 50 class 2-speed. The line is 80 pound braid. For offshore spinning reels usually a 7500 size reel with 80 pound braid or 30 pound mono. In the video description I provide and article about the reels and tuna lures. I also have articles about spinning rods and reels if you are looking for that specifically.

    where was the fishing spot

    • @CaptainCody7

      South side of Marathon Florida. At the marathon humps which is 27 Miles offshore and fished random schools of birds along the way, some as shallow as 400 feet about six miles offshore. When I get time I will try and mark the spots on the map on the site. Right now I am doing some other work on the website. Check it out to see what lures we were using.

    it was in the atlantic hump

      It was the at the Marathon hump, about 27 miles south of Marathon Florida, in the Florida keys. There are a few different humps in the Florida keys such as the Islamorada and the 409 hump. Some of these tuna were caught in random schools of fish on the way to the humps. We just look for birds along the way.

    How far offshore?

    • @CaptainCody7
      @CaptainCody7  3 года назад

      On that day around 20 miles. The blackfin tuna in the keys are typically anywhere from the edge of the reef which is around 5 miles out to 40 miles out. Finding tuna birds or frigate birds is key. Thanks for watching!

    Folks keeping all the little dinks is the reason for recent size and bag limits on blackfins.

      Little ones, big ones, people keeping too many seemed to affect the numbers. I like the 10 limit rule. Blackfin does not freeze well anyway. Typically we just keep a couple to eat fresh.
