I'm a big fan of the Charger 5.7 police package. The city I live in has been using them since their introduction, with many first generations still around. The Magnums were used as K9 units. Whenever I hear the fast revving of 1 certain car accelerating, I right away know it's a Charger 5.7 police car. About a decade ago there was a big pursuit going on with city police. I was listening to it online before the police department went digital. When the pursuit was over and the suspect was in custody, many Chargers had to get towed due to the brake pads. On older dashcam videos of high speed chases, Crown Victorias have a hard time keeping up with most suspects. That's when I say, "this is when you need the Charger 5.7". I love watching pursuit videos involving Chargers. They are fast!
My local Sheriff Allegan Co Michigan uses light brown explorers very hard to see, Michigan State Police use bright blue Chargers as shown in your video as well as Chevy Tahoe's.

I own a 2010 police Hemi, 2 Crown Vics (2008 & 2010), I had a Caprice PPV (with the 6.0L), and have an Avalanche (basically like a Tahoe but with a truck bed). By far the best daily driver is the Crown Vic. It's comfortable, reliable, and parts are cheap and easy to find. I wish it had more acceleration but it's not a deal breaker. The Charger is an absolute blast to drive as far as acceleration and performance, but it's got a punishing ride to it and it really beats you up. It seems more complicated to work on and more problem prone. The Caprice was kind of a good combination of the best things about the Vic and Charger but other than maintenance items, parts were tough to find. The Avalanche gas mileage is not good enough to make it a daily driver (I hope the police Tahoes have a better acceleration than my Avalanche - it's good off the line but weak if you need to stomp on it from a rolling speed). Overall I feel very blessed to have all of these vehicles and be able to drive them.

My boyfriend just bought an 2009. The fog lights and bulbs are there. But the pig tail to one was missing and those wores were cut. Inside the car the light control box did not have an option for fog lights. He bought a new pig tail and soldered it to the remaining wires. He also replaced the light control panel with one with a push on off for fog light. Cranked the car up and the fogs don't work. I have looked at you tube videos but none speak of a further fix if the don't work. Can you help us with more information? Please and thank you.
So lemme get this straight... they wanted to increase brake pad life by switching to a *NEW AND IMPROVED* brake pad that required replacement *MORE OFTEN*?
Maybe I didn’t say it right but the original pads had A LOT of bite/good performance but wore out too fast in 4-8k miles. So dodge switched to a shittier pad that had less braking power/bite but lasted longer. So they switched to worse performance but longer lasting
What share of the police fleet market do the chargers make up? It seems that now the Crown Vics are fading from service, the Chargers seem to be the typical police car.
This were the norm all over mexico in all law enforcement forces here in mexico you can still see many of this unit on the road, although they are all being replaced by the ford police interceptor and interceptor utility, and chevy pursuit versions Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado, but just now police forces all over the country are switching to top of the line brand new jeep wranglers , beautiful units none the less , i would like to ask wich police is the best , or was the best unit in service in your opininion, since here in mexico we had basically the same cars you got in the US, so impalas,Crown Vics, Caprice and more were the norm back then , and same as you guy we switched to the Ford Police Interceptor versions, except from some states wich preffered european units, like the 2019 and 2020 Jetta,Passat,Amarok, Atlas and some Golfs and Audis ( This only applies to Puebla)
I just got a police charger. 3 years ago, I bought a 2010 charger with the 2.7L and it had high mileage on it then. Last week, it started getting noisy, push rod failure. It now has 270,000km. I have a 2010 Charger police package with the 5.7 Hemi, does anyone know what type of rear differential these cars are equipped with... open or limited slip?
Nothing is really an upgrade to SRT8 stuff. The pursuit can go faster than an RT as the speed limiter is removed. But brakes suspension all that stuff is not srt8 stuff, it’s just better than stock V6 or RT (built for heavy duty rather than performance)

To Protect and Serve- first we must note that state troopers are generally designated to patrol the highways. But any and all municipal law enforcement who are camped out on the highway or interstate could claim that the state troopers are too busy, but that’s a flimsy excuse. So first we’ll stick with the local municipal before jumping on the troopers. To protect. From what? Generally bodily harm is the number one issue. Next would be your private property, your belongings, etc. , with certain threats and then maybe fraud, and on down the list away from bodily harm, which is undoubtedly the one with the greatest sense of urgency. So when we see local law enforcement sitting at speed traps, whether rural or urban, who is patrolling the high crime areas, keeping high visibility to DETER crime and violence. They don’t want to wait for someone to get attacked before they do something about it. What if police had to sit and watch as a victim got stabbed for his wallet, and then after the fact apprehended the perpetrator? If they really wanted to catch violent offenders, they would hide in the shadows and then pounce when the baddie made his move. But by then it might be too late. The danger being that swinging a knife in close proximity to another person or firing a gun in the general direction of a person. By that time, the chances of injury are very much higher than the chances would be for injury were the perp be deterred by police presence. Also in these instances, the reward for catching or better yet deterring an assailant is little to none. But on roads, there is revenue. So using the same analogy, why would speed traps ever exist? And we are correct to question their purpose. There is only one answer. Revenue. And lots of it. Parking an empty cruiser on the shoulder as a deterrent is a great idea. Hiding behind bushes does nothing to deter speeding. Well, besides actually getting a ticket, and depending on that to deter further speeding. But the deed has been done. And the effort put into enforcement of a particular law should be commensurate with the threat of bodily harm associated with the breaking of said law. So speeding does indeed increase the threat of bodily harm. But has that really deterred future speeding infractions enough to truly impact the overall attitude? Maybe, but very, very little. Almost every driver speeds, at least a little, every day, all day. But that’s the point. If every single person does it, but the number of automobile accidents resulting in bodily harm directly attributed to speed as the factor resulting in bodily harm is a tiny fraction of the overall picture of law enforcement. And again the overall point is that too much effort is put into writing speeding tickets, not preventing speeding itself. Meanwhile, all over town citizens are at a greater threat of harm simply because there are less police officers available per capita when some are out working speed traps. The potential for recurring violence increases steadily if the perpetrator thinks that he can get away with it since he never sees cops cruising around, being deterrents. But speeding tickets aren’t generally issued for the lofty reasons as claimed on the side of the patrol car. They are generally issued to increase revenue, while convenience store clerks suffer with lack of police presence. Battered wives suffer by the lack of Police presence. And the lowly pickpocket thrives when police patrols are few and far between.
By the time Chrysler got back into the police market, it had been far too long! Chrysler used to dominate the law enforcement market! I grew up with Dodge police vehicles, and it was odd to see Chevy, Ford and other manufacturers making police cars. I've always hated the Crown Vics and Impalas. I used to own a decomissioned '77 Plymouth Fury III Florida Highway patrol interceptor with a 440 Magnum. One of the best damned car I've ever owned!!!
We got the 1st hemi 06 in Missoula Mt and I was bragging to a charger driving highway patrol, told him the wife had it over 130 mph on the 200, boy did he chew on me, but hey, it was the wife not me!!!!!!!
No. Really only safe bet to go with when it comes to ex cop cars is a Crown Vic. The Chargers are not as durable and more likely than not beaten to hell and back.
GHOST REAPER GAMING go for it. Maybe research the value. Don’t listen to any ass kisser with the crown Vic. I own a crown vic myself. Yes they’re super reliable but honestly there’s no difference besides performance. Don’t listen to any crown Vic owner telling you to get a crown vic. They don’t know shit about any other police vehicle but the crown Vic They’re just as reliable as the crown Vic. As long as you take care of it.
@@nicholass281 MDS can be an issue with the 5.7, the NAG1 is a decent transmission but still very expensive to repair, suspension issues are very common Chargers, electrical problems. They're not a bad car, but not as durable as the P71. Police Tahoe's are also a good choice.
Chad Qualls you recommend the least reliable vehicle which is the (Tahoe) that’s the last thing you wanna tell someone to buy. Ford had the biggest recall on their ford Crown Vic transmission. I can tell you right now. My friend owns a 2010 Dodge Charger pursuit with the 5.7v8 doesn’t have any problems and has almost 200k miles on it and it runs strong. Had it for almost 3 years and never had a problem. Like I said as long as you take care of a vehicle. You’ll be surprised how long they last. Cops only used the Vic because of the space. Not because of the reliability.
@@nicholass281 Current gen Tahoe is shit, but the previous gen are stout. As long as the 5.3 is still a cast iron block and the 4L is holding up. As for a Charger, no. They're not horrible but under police service things are usually ran pretty damn hard. After idling all day long that 5.7 thats already known for lifter issues will have one foot in the grave. Also there's a difference between reliability and durability. There's things body on frame will handle better than a unibody. Thr Vic is basically a truck with a car body slapped on top, but I still wouldn't recommend a P71 over a civilian Vic in the first place. Police cars can be a gamble. I understand you bleed Mopar, but I'm not saying any of this out of brand loyalty. The Vic is a dumb and simple car. That's why it's durable, not because it was engendered so perfectly.

I hit 135mph in my 06 RT charger racing against a 2015 RT and I smoked the guy lol still had peddle
Jon O'Dell I don’t believe you the 8 speed trans vs your 5 speed would wipe your ass
That's because you think you did sunny
@@stevenbaker673 No I beat him he was driving like an ass hole had his girl with him and as soon as I got beside him we both nailed it and I walked him it might be hard to believe in your eyes pal in the eyes of the small penis gang you seem to not see what normal people see. 👍👍
Own a 2010 pursuit hemi charger, thing is pretty fun, no issues so far runs great good power, only complaint is the stiffer suspension these come with, feel every single bump in the road, at least theres not much road noise lol
When will the second generation charger cop car video be posted?
I have only started working on that one but have another 1-2 other videos to do first so maybe in a week or so?
I'll be looking for it. Will there be content on the brakes? I'd like to upgrade my '13 Rt Challenger with cop car brakes
Can't wait dor the next video, I have a 2014 rt awd police as a winter car. It got a lot of weird quirks
Nice video!Just a quick question that I figured you would know the answer to. Okay, I have a 2010 Dodge Charger Pursuit 5.7 RWD. I am getting ready to get the police shocks and springs changed over to R/T,front and back. So is it as simple as that? Or is there anything you can offer me advice wise on the R&R? Thanks
Please do a videon on the current Ford Police Interceptors versions and Chevy Pursuit versions, they are all over Mexico, i can even send you pics from here if you would like me too, this are beautiful cars, and they almost never fail to catch or ram any target.
I own a 2009 charger interceptor with 63k miles, love the car so far
Lawd here we go
Great vid!
In Czech Republic there is only one or two as a novelty, I wouldn't call that real "worldwide use"
How come some 06-10 have molding strips on the side doors but some don't they are smooth on the side?
9:35 imagine having that driving job...🤯. I wish I had pursuited a career in that.
This is in Puerto Rico!
Trying to get my hands on a 08 magnum police package. Got my eyes on one right now.
All police cars have the same give away. Parking lights close to the grill. I remember always confusing towncars for crown vics.
Police chargers in the Czech republic? Where did you get that from? Never seen any there.
I don’t usually see any 08-11 Chargers FHP vehicles on patrol, barley any 12-14’s. 90% is current Gen.
Same for me as well, usually they get rotated out every 3 years with the option for 6
Do the dodge tomahawk concept vehicle or the dodge intrepid
Yes the Intrepid! First and second gen. Been asking for this over a year now
yes do the other Gens charges please specially the 2015+.
I know plenty of people with the police chargers some active duty cops that hate the AWD.
I live in Ireland and I'm familiar with the Charger police car from the film Fast and Furious Five. The one where they're stealing a bank vault.
What share of the police fleet market do the chargers make up? It seems that now the Crown Vics are fading from service, the Chargers seem to be the typical police car.
I love the Dodge Charger Police vehicles, I do like the Crown Vic better but the Charger comes in second for me.
I noticed in my area once they had one they never get another.
I love how the "cop" couldn't figure out how to unlock the back door… lol
I got a speeding ticket from a Dodge charger!!!!
Very cool 😀
I just got a police charger.
3 years ago, I bought a 2010 charger with the 2.7L and it had high mileage on it then. Last week, it started getting noisy, push rod failure. It now has 270,000km. I was able to get an other 2010 charger, only it’s a 3.5L persuit car. It only has 76,000km. So far so good. The body is in GREAT SHAPE! I’ll send you a side by side on Instagram.
Weird I’m watching ghostbusters right now
More power

I have a 2010 Charger police package with the 5.7 Hemi, does anyone know what type of rear differential these cars are equipped with... open or limited slip?
Answered my own question LOL. It has an open differential. Verified it myself today.
What parts from an 09-10 charger pursuit would be an upgrade to stock 08 charger srt8 parts? Long shot but maybe someone will answer.
Nothing is really an upgrade to SRT8 stuff. The pursuit can go faster than an RT as the speed limiter is removed. But brakes suspension all that stuff is not srt8 stuff, it’s just better than stock V6 or RT (built for heavy duty rather than performance)
@@MarspeedCars Thanks for the quick reply. I’m on my third 6th gen and this time I want to do a mashup of the pursuit and srt8. Don’t have any socials for it yet but maybe once she’s presentable lol
Are these cars worth anything? I have one but it’s rusty.
Probably still a few thousand with high mileage
I heard the transmissions for the 2011 on up are made of glass
Guess we’ll see in Part 2 😅
Not true lmao
You heard wrong.
Some glass is bulletproof.
Remember the police chief that bought a Hellcat for his force and they made him return it!Good luck outrunning that one!!
My city has unmarked AWD Hellcats
They had a maguim police
Hey soy Dominica República
Do crown Vics
We got the 1st hemi 06 in Missoula Mt and I was bragging to a charger driving highway patrol, told him the wife had it over 130 mph on the 200, boy did he chew on me, but hey, it was the wife not me!!!!!!!
That list of states with doge cop cars is inaccurate, I live in Statesboro Ga and have seen many charger cop cars around here
Uh oh here come the po po
the crown vic was the King of all police interceptors, until ford pulled the plug in 2011.
I want to buy a 2015 charger pursuit with 114000 miles for 12k. Should k buy it?
I thought this was a Donut episode based on the title.
Ohio state patrol has chargers and now they have that look, now the trooper and the car look intimidating. when they drove crown vics, here's a well trained marine Corp looking trooper getting out of a grandma car. charger makes a statement speed in Ohio you loose!!
