It's cool tho..you're allowing the energy of love and weddings to have space in your imagination and existence so the Universe hears all. It'll happen for you booh!!!! Continue to stay open to it and Believe. *HUGS* 👍🏿👍🏽👍🏻👍
I had my wedding in December 2019, it was small and intimate, SAVED A LOT OF MONEY! Originally my wedding was almost $40k, but we didn't want to start our wedding in huge debt so we decided we were going to invite just close friends and family (20 people) and I'm so glad we did that because the ceremony just felt so special, intimate, and just perfect!! Our total cost was $6k way better than the original!
So glad to hear!! I definitely miss my friends (especially now during COVID) but I loved our intimate ceremony and wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks for watching!! :)
Hi kchoi 💗 I don't know if you'll see this but when I was telling my brother about wanting to start a youtube channel, he suggested for me to look at your channel and you've been my role model ever since. The first video I watched was your "how I saved 50,000 dollars for grad school" video and it inspired me to save and pay for grad school on my own one day (started a full time job! hehe). Congratulations on getting married with a beautiful and intimate wedding (and the ring accident is honestly so cute)
I like that you mentioned upscale weddings could hold more pressure as it almost seems like a spectacular. After all, we simply want an event to celebrate intimacy and the journey of our relationships. Congrats Kchoi!
I love that you rented a dress and your husband rented a suit!!! I find the whole process of finding and buying this extremely expensive dress that you're only going to wear once to be so unnecessary.
I think it is still preference 🙂, my mama's wedding dress was personally tailored and made for her before and my papa's barong tagalog (kind of suit that made from pineapple) was also personally made for him, and it is been 25 years of their marriage, and my sister and I will use her wedding dress too, we will just made some improvements and adjustments. It is beautiful and I think we are just lucky that we are almost the same body proportion like our mom before. But yeah, you can say that we rented our mom's wedding dress haha
This was so insightful! I enjoyed it! I'm sorry you guys couldn't have had your bigger wedding, but I think the small wedding worked out really well ❤. You've given me such insight on the contrast between a large wedding versus a small one.
Congratulations from London! I got married 10 years ago. We originally planned to have a big wedding in London but then my wife had to go back to Seoul. We didn't lose any money and it worked out much cheaper in the end.
I love this! We had to cancel our 140 person wedding last year too and haven’t made concrete plans yet. We’re going to hold it in our backyard too sometime this year! Can you share the DIYs you did or tips for planning? Also did you do a zoom for it or no?
I married in the court with my husband but I understand the importance of having a big wedding especially sharing the happiness with your friends. I love your dress by the way you look stunning !!!! stay safe and all the best !!!
hi! i started following your channel since your london vlogs and since then, i've been so inspired by you to create my own channel. just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing so many of your advices from traveling to grad school to working full-time. you are seriously amazing!! and congrats on your marriage. wishing you lots and lots of love and happiness
Cxl my 300 guest venue and went down to 60 guest. Only have to pay $1500 for food and beverage. Luckily some of my vendors were avail for our date change but im not keeping all. Old Venue was $900 deposit. Looking to setup diff event or get refund from venue or friend. It made us feel so much better when we downsized.. i can breath 😅
Congrats you guys! Although Dain took my phone to subscribe to your channel without my consent, I’ve been loving your contents since then. Congrats once again!!
This is so relatable and so helpful! I had to cancel my venue for my wedding for October 2020 too and now we are planning to get married in my backyard.
Congratulations!! :) I also had a small wedding ceremony last year. We had the same experience as yours. We forgot to bring our wedding rings! So my husband ran to get it. haha But people still remember the small happening in a cute way. By the way, congrats to you both!
I had no idea how much a wedding would cost before watching this video...thanks for sharing all the details + lessons learned. Ahhh almost feels like you took all of us to the wedding with you💕 Low key hoping I could use this info soon😉
Gahh I’m so happy for you and Dain, and it’s so crazy how well you were able to pivot and throw this backyard wedding off!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ALSO HELLO WEBSITE!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
We are keeping our date 10/31/2020 Only a small backyard ceremony and we pushed our reception for October 2021. We wanted to get married on Halloween so we'll celebrate our first year anniversary with all our 150 guests as well
My wedding was supposed to be 10/3 too! We postponed to next year but getting married in our backyard with just our parents and officiant still. I wish I could cancel the big wedding but I think I'm the only one who doesn't care about it. I hate how expensive weddings are.
They are truly so expensive 😭 but I’m sure that the time with all your friends and family will be worth it. I wish I could have had the memories with my bridesmaids and close friends!
really enjoyed this video and your sharing! i saw wedding photos of you and dain on your ig. were those photos taken on your actual wedding day, or some other time?
This makes me emotional because my fiancé & I changed our date & we’re really hoping this craziness will pass by then. 😭 Congratulations to you both & it makes me happy that you both made it work & were ok with the drastic change. 💕 Where was your original venue, if you don’t mind me asking? (I’m from SoCal)
Aww good luck with everything!! It’s going to be worth it no matter what, because at the end of the day you’re getting married to each other! 💕 DM me on Instagram! :)
2021 is still bad in covid. As such you made the proper decision. Also if you wanted to get the deposit back and not redirect, a cool thing to have is "Event insurance" This means you get most or all of your deposit back if u wish to cancel your wedding/celebrations of any kind in that venue due to certain reasons. Also any reason why you rented a wedding dress/tux instead of buying it? Since you did have a very large wedding budget I am curious why you chose to rent instead of buy. Most ppl will buy since it evokes fond memories when they have the dress with them, but I did hear in Korean culture they just rent the dress a lot. Is this true?
You can get a better quality dress that includes alterations when you rent (if I bought then I would have gotten a cheaper quality dress for the same price plus have to get it altered) :)
Totally depends. We are 29 and will have dated for 8 years this December. But I also know couples who got married younger while dating for a shorter amount of time, and couples/people who got married later. There’s absolutely no one right age!
@@bykchoi omg you responded to me! ( lowkey fangirling) ahh I see. I am turning 23 in December and it's just like all my friends are younger and they are already married with children. It's been making me very anxious tbh. My bf and I been together for 3 years and we want to be married at like 29-30 too.
Kind of but not really! I knew it would be end of 2019/early 2020. We talked about it openly (and went ring shopping together over the summer) but the proposal itself was a surprise
Hahaha she was very affordable (it’s her side gig) and it was for all raw footage + a 30second to 1min highlight reel (we didn’t want a longer feature video)
hi! I was wondering if you are planning to change your last name? I am also an asian-american getting married this year and am debating on whether or not to change my last name
OMGGG Im so far from having a wedding (im single af) BUT I LOVE WATCHING OTHER PEOPLES WEDDING PROCESS!!!
hahah YAY! enjoy!!

I love that you rented a dress and your husband rented a suit!!! I find the whole process of finding and buying this extremely expensive dress that you're only going to wear once to be so unnecessary.
Hahah yes exactly! And i originally would have rented TWO dresses for the price of purchasing one 😱
I'm not the kind of person who gets excited about huge weddings. The small knit backyard wedding day melted my socks off, it's subtle yet lovable.
This was so helpful and practical!! The older I get, the less I want a big ceremony (if I ever get married). This definitely solidified that idea
I’m so happy with the decision!!
You forgot mentioning about one thing: the cost for having a backyard lol. The pictures look super cute tho. Congratulations!
Hahaha TRUE we are so lucky that we could get married in my parents’ backyard!!
Amazing advice for these troubled times. Weddings are so beautiful, they don't have to be super expensive.
Thank you!!

Dang, is it bad that having a wedding during Covid is a good excuse to save money? 😆 I can’t believe how expensive everything is to plan one! Sigh 😔
With the original cost of your wedding you can buy a house in my country 😅😅 i didnt know that weddings can get that expensive in other countries.
Hey wow, we got married by the same pastor! What a small world! 😆 congratulations!!!

The idea that you saved 30k means you were going to spend way to much on a wedding to begin with. Even 10k seems crazy.
Definitely
I hope you soon marrie
