Thanks! It's pretty cool they've found a way to make use of the the track also during winter. Used to go watch races in Ahvenisto a lot when I was younger, should pick that up again!
finland is one of the most fascinating places i have ever visited and ted meat is undoubtedly the nicest, brightest and best pilot finland has ever given us!
Great stuff. It was nice to see you venture into the real world - very unexpected! When you said you had one thing Keke did not I was expecting you to say 'an infinite supply of car parts' 😁
Fantastic video! And by the way, congratulations on winning the Belgian GP a couple of weeks ago. You got a superb pole position, dominated the race in tricky conditions and you literally left the renowned rain master Michael Schumacher in the dust. Can't wait for the Italian GP and the rabid, passionate tifosis that come with it. It should be pretty special. Forza Friedrich Bang and Ferrari!
Awesome video. I love how every single place is turned into a ski-related facility during winter in the northern countries. Are you sure the slides you get entering corners were from braking too hard, and not from down shifting too early / being to brutal with the clutch ? That's my main issue when using old cars, having no feedback from the clutch pedal.
Thanks :) And yeah I had some difficulties when skipping gears downshifting. I guess you should either go through all the gears when braking or do the heel&toe to rev match. On a busy track like this I prefer block shifting but I still haven't learned to heel and toe very well. Guess my feet are too stiff from all the skiing :D
A bit late, but at the start/finish straight on the Assetto Corsa (and rFactor 2) track, you can see the remains of the rallycross track they used for aaages in rallycross back in the 80's and 90's! :)
@@TedMeat Did some looking up, seems like the last time they were in Hämeenlinna for rallycross was in 2010 in the Finnish Championship. Back when Matti Alamäki was considering a comeback!
Yeah Keimola was probably even more legendary but as Laahustaja said it's no longer in existence. Would have been very suitable even for F1 but they only did F2 races there.
I like it. It's something new to your channel and you can keep it doing, trying to beat fastest laps on old school tracks. However, i wanna see the full lap around the track skiing. No speed up, just the whole lap.
Thanks for the feedback Federico! I have the material so I could as well :D I might release that as a "private" video and add the link into the description of this video. I'll keep you posted :)
The 1983 Williams likely would have been several seconds faster. Ronnie Peterson in a Lotus 79 in 1978 did a 1:16.8 in qualifying (pole) at Brands Hatch (similar technical circuit with few straights), while Keke Rosberg in the Williams FW08C did a 1:14.9 (P16) in 1983.
Interesting, good research! I myself compared the times in Monaco in 1979 and 1983 (not the most representative track, I know). In 1979 Alan Jones did a 1:27.67 with his Williams (that was basically a copy of Lotus 79) and in 1983 Keke did 1:26.307. So it indeed seems that the 1983 car was faster even without ground effect.
Yep, I'm Finnish :) I remember using mods by a Finnish guy in GP2 and actually discussed about the mods with him by email but I don't remember his name. Big chance he was the same guy :)
@@TedMeat Probably, his updates were one of the most used. I created mods myself for GP2, GP3, and owned a website with downloads and news for the race sim community, with incredible 5.000 page views a day. Unfortunately, at that time, it was hard to make money on internet :D
Very interesting fact about the pronunciation of Keke Roozberry. That reminds me that I've always meant to ask a Finnish person how they say J.J. Lehto because I've always heard his name pronounced in an English way even in other languages. Jay Jay Layto or Jay Jay Lechto at best but the Jay Jay part always stayed the same. Is that an Anglicism he consciously chose or are we meant to say Yee Yee Lechto or something? :D Another thing that struck me is that you seem to instantly shift into the gear you want to take the corner in but in my memory drivers used to downshift sequentially without skipping gears even with an H shifter giving us eargasm. Is my memory suffering of generalised over-romanticisation? :D
It's pronounced that way in english because his real name is Jyrki Jarvilehto (therefore J J-lehto), it's pronounced Yurki Yarvilehto in finnish i think.
Yeah, as FireGuy said it's pronounced same as in english here. It's his "artist name" and pronouncing it jay jay (as it should in Finnish) would just sound pretty stupid :( Keke's last name is of Swedish origin so that's why it's pronounced a bit differently than regular Finnish names.
Try removing steering wheel and arms. That way your eyes wont go 360 with seeing a double steering wheel and you will steer by seeing your simwheel position and by your feel. Its easier like that for me and it made me faster.
Thanks for the tip! Although from where I'm sitting I don't really see the in-game steering wheel at all because the "real" wheel blocks it. I still might try out your suggestion because there's no really need for the in-game wheel. Thanks!
Once more
Engines gonna roar
and u fly through a racetrack
my heart will go on and on....
Ahh, beautiful ❤

Great video Ted! Love learning about the circuit in this way
Thank you, appreciate it :) I should ski around more tracks then :D

Thanks! Indeed and also Keke needed to worry about other stuff as well. Like avoiding death in a horrific crash etc.
Great day to be from Hämeenlinna

Awesome video, awesome story awesome narration and awesome lap!! Hats off, Ted! 👍👍
Thank you Ralonso, appreciate it 😊
Legendary Peltonen as go aheads. What would say Jyri Lutmanen!
Hyvää settiä ja todella yllättävää!
Jyri Lutmanen just noted that he approves.
Hey! Just discovered this! Very entertaining… terveiset Kallelta Australiasta!👍

Great video, it's also my favourite Finnish track. Driving the track with the F2 cars in GPL is a blast!
Indeed, I've never done GPL here but I'm sure it's very suitable for F2 cars!
great surprise.... great video
Thank you Paulo :) Skiing is often nicer than running in winter but can't wait for the spring!
Muy lindo video. Felicitacines por Belgica impresionante! Si hubieses usado el Willians del Lole Reutemann lo hubieses batido!👍☺💪🙋
Thank you Mauro! I know I could find the missing 7 tenths but it would require a lot of time that I don't currently have :(

Hmm. I don't know if there's snow there but I DO have roller skis :D They should close the circuit from the cars though.

Nope. In this sport grip is BAD :D
