I taught the mothers to ring the door bell to let me know when they were outside and wanted food. It only took three tries and they made the connection. In turn, they taught their kits and now the following generations ring the bell. If I move or change the bell, the raccoons still know what to do. Despite that, they remain wild and wary and they need all their natural instincts to survive in the forests. Only the raccoon with chewed ears is social because I fed her when she was a sickly kit.
