  • Diego’s robot that is partially remote-controlled with servo driven Mecanum wheels. The radio receiver on board acts as a go-between between the radio transmitter and the Teensy microcontroller. The robot is also equipped with an autonomous firefighting system. The Teensy reads values from a front-mounted infrared sensor, and once the value is less than 60, the robot knows that a fire is detected and is nearby, and the Teensy will then send a signal to a relay. The relay turns on a Versa Vale solenoid, allowing CO2 to flow from the cartridge and extinguish the fire. This system also uses an RGB LED and a piezo buzzer to inform the human of its actions. The light turns red when the infrared sensor detects the presence of a flame (i.e., the sensor reads a value less than 1023). The light will flash white, and the buzzer will go off when the sensor is very near to the flame (i.e., when the sensor picks up a value that is less than 60).
