These are weirdly entertaining for somebody who doesn't have any base knowledge. You clearly commentate more you have that classic commentator voice XD
I don't have high hopes for my wolf to make it to the next round with this kind of competition.
You never know! Wolf is currently still safe on the other side of the board, so it’ll be in for at least another round yet!
I am immediately invested in this series.
Love to hear it!
Okay I am actually super interested. I just had this pop up in my feed and you sir have earned a subscriber!
Glad to hear it, welcome aboard!
@@DungeonBoy-TTRPG You art very welcome.
Another good episode, I wonder what your rational is for choosing certain monsters to fight each other is?
At them moment I have been selecting creatures based on their CR, and then choosing some that look like they have a fun matchup together.
For future series where the creature power levels are more closely aligned, I likely select a bunch of monsters and then randomise their opponents from within that pool.
Should make it very interesting…
(Then people can pick a favourite from the start too!)
Going for the brown bear this time! Full animal finals!
Omg this one was crazy!
The Bugbear got so lucky with those high damage rolls even though the Bear got two crits those rolls didn’t work out lol
Also just one thing I would like to point out if the Bugbear had thrown their Javelin and then moved the javelin wouldn’t have been at disadvantage
Here’s the DPR calculations
On average the Brown Bear would win even after losing initiative
Bugbear:
(Morningstar +4 to hit vs 11 AC)
70% chance to hit
(11x0.70)=7.7
Critical (9x0.05)=0.45
Total DPR=8.15
Five rounds to kill
Brown Bear:
(Bite & Claw +6 to hit vs 16 AC)
55% chance to hit
(19.5x0.55)=10.72
Critical (11.5x0.05)=0.57
Total DPR=11.29
Three rounds to kill
It was an interesting turn of events… plenty of opportunity for one to finish the other (no spoilers)… 😅
Truly a case of the dice deciding the outcome!
@DungeonBoy-TTRPG maybe it gives the wolf a fighting chance!
That hp lead wasn't enough to make up for that terrible AC. And even though the Bugbear's AC didn't count for two strikes, his armor protected him from the lesser blows long enough for him to beat down the opposition without a single miss.
The Bugbear did work in this fight, definitely earned its spot in the next round!
Really fun to watch
Glad to hear it, more coming soon!
... why is the dice tray the biggest part of the screen and not the arena?
That’s something I have thought about changing. Thanks for the feedback.
I have never liked the idea of doubling the value of the dice over simply rolling more dice
But I mean, if you don't have enough sets of dice, I get it
I mean, that being said, I also rule that magic missile darts strike simultaneously rather than consecutively, so maybe I don't care about distributions, and instead just enjoy following rules as written
Every table has its own rules, haha. The crit double, (or not), is definitely one of the more divisive ones!
@DungeonBoy-TTRPG the expected value is the same, it just changes the distribution to be a simple flat bar, I would rather the feeling of rolling 20d6 for my rogues crit
What are the weight class for the mons? This reminds me of MMA and pokemon.
Currently going by CR, with this series being 0 - 1. It’s still quite a broad class, so we’ll see how it goes!
I’ve got some ideas for the evolution of the format as well, with themed arenas that feature environmental hazard etc. to shake things up. I’ll likely run those as additional battles adjacent to the divisional tournaments.
Very much on the money with the inspiration too!
Well this whole Tournament will not last long, if an ancient dragon is allowed to step into the ring ... Thought there would be a size (weight) category or magic user division ... anything with a legendary action will just ignore a nat 20's and anything with magic can just win with command, charm, etc. Maybe get some more clear rules?
There is! This is the CR 0 - 1 division. It says at the end of the video on the scoreboard, but probably worth adding that to the start of the video to avoid confusion.
Plan is to have separate divisions going up alongside the CR scale… we’ll see how it goes, but Ancient Dragons will definitely not be solo fighting wolves or bears 😂
Why didnt the bugbear javelin toss first (in range, so no dis) and then use its movement to run away? Lore accurate int for the bugbear?
It totally should have. Lore accurate INT for the Bugbear was apparently higher than my INT in the moment 😂
@@DungeonBoy-TTRPG Nah man all good, was speaking about the actual int of the bugbear, can see them placing more importance on running away then to throw a javelin
Haha, my reasoning was that the Bugbear would probably try to get some distance from the large sized Bear standing in front of it, and with its -1 INT modifier would most likely act on instinct to get as far away as possible before opening fire.
So yeah, a definite focus on legging it first!
Before I watch, my bet is on the bear to win.
A solid bet 🐻
Bearable fight
Bugbear FTW
It really did work!
