In this video we go explore a bit more of upper coyote canyon trail in Anza Borrego State Park. We explored Alder Canyon and had a fun time getting out of coyote canyon. We also did an easy 2WD friendly trail nearby called Thomas Mountain rd. Hopefully this video will give you guys an idea of the trail condition when tackling them.

You guys gotta start using A-trac before lockers
My Tacoma doesn't have Atrac
Hitting your rear locker early would cause less damage to trail. Is the red Tacoma a manual? Sounds like it is.
Very true. Should just switch it on at the bottom of the climb. Many people seem to think that diff-lock is just for "emergency situations" or something.
Awesome trail! Thanks for mentioning when you have to engage the rear locker. It really helps with getting an idea of how the trail is and if it’s doable without a locker . 😅
Yea definitely a fun trail to get out to...I was hoping for more water to get it nice and muddy haha
Man, that rut is no joke. Looked pretty fun though.
That rut had us nervous at first but once the tire got some traction it was an easy climb in 4Lo...definitely a fun trail, hopefully more water crossing next time for some good old mud!
Pretty scenery but am a little confused by the title " - 2WD Friendly trail" and the later statement "a cool 'easy' trail." Are you serious about making that trial in 2WD? And was that trail 'easy'? I've been looking for 2WD trails and not sure that fits the bill. Still thanks for the video.
I believe he means Thomas Mountain specifically. Thomas Mountain with some All Terrain tires and no lift you should be fine.
Stay outta Coyote Canyon unless you have 4WD and good chunky tires lol
@@jurelle Yeah I get it. There are parts of the trail that are 2WD friendly and others that are not - at all so why the title? And all the vehicles were 4WD and probably in 4WD the entire time so again why the title? I'm constantly looking for 2WD friendly trails so I click on the video and it's nothing of the sort. Still a good vid overall but NOT 2WD friendly. Maybe he left out the 'NOT' in the video title?
I'll make a change to the title as I can see how it's a bit confusing but the 2WD friendly was referring to Thomas Mt rd. We didn't use 4x4 on it except for the "optional" off shoot which on the video I stated it's a 4x4 offshoot. But Thomas mountain was definitely a 2wd friendly trail we didn't engage 4x4 at all
I googled Thomas Mountain Rd. after this video, and learned more about it as a 2WD beginner trail. This is a vlog. I highly recommend utilizing more sources for information. RUclips is a start, but it's not exactly your wikipedia lol
@@hellaBayAr3a We should've included the Chrysler 300 on the trail camping at the yellow post sites as a ruler for difficulty
"Overlanding". Or as we called it for many, many years, camping---just using your 4x4 to get around.
What happened to your 4x2?
I sold it months ago...been having a 4x4 for the past year
@@Michael_Tran dammmmn all this time .. I have. 4x2 ;(
@@Turtlemilk Thomas Mountain rd is a good 2wd trail...my past videos I've done are with my 2017 Tacoma 2WD though FYI
its too bad your new rig has a squeak too. on the plus side everyone knows when you're flexing haha
I know...I only started a recently...probably from all the water crossing
I drove thomas mtn rd several years ago. It was pouring rain and the mud was extremely slick. Going up those steep hills was super sketchy
I can see it being super muddy and slick if there's a good storm going through that area. Would be cool to see this area when it snow.
