Lyrics:
Seem like everywhere I go, everybody wanna know
What’s it like to be a girl, in the music world
The scene is so sexist, believe me I get it, we’d probably sell more records if I flaunted my ass and chest but forget it
I work like one of the boys, and I’m as true as they get
but I’m a lady through and through, like give me some credit
I knew I’d regret it if I tried to blend in and pretend
Be something other than I am
like have you noticed I’m a woman
Didn’t come to downplay it, or to play it up either
and I’m not trying pick a fight or be nobody's leader
But it feels like everybody’s just a little too interested
In the fact that females can indeed make music
Our interviews, our bios, - they all make it a point
"Female Fronted Band, from Decatur, Illinois"
And just once, I’d like to see some other band’s resume go out of their way to say they’re fronted by a male, ok?
And while we’re on it, let me say
Women don’t all sound the same
Who gave us the idea that "Female Fronted” is a genre anyway?
CHORUS
Seem like everywhere I go, everybody wanna know
What’s it like to be a girl, in the music world
Wanna make it disappear, tell them what they wanna hear,
If truth ain't pretty will you all stay with me
Will you love me, love me ugly
And I know it’s not fair, and I can’t complain,
Cuz with girl in our band, people don’t look away
But you know what, it feels like they look just a little too long
stare me up and down, forget to listen to the song
I take the stage and before I even open my mouth, the audience assumes that they got us all figured out
"Oh your band’s got a chick, must be some kinda trick,
there’s no way she got this far without sucking somebody's"
Did you really think that’s how it works, I’m not fucking eye candy
I’m here to do my job, I’ll be the last man standing
Boys in crowd asking, for me to flash them, well here you go, news flash:
You’re ignorant and that’s that
I bet you’d never say that to your little sister
The media’s got you all jacked up, little mister
Cuz girls in my position can perpetuate the cycle
walking a tightrope, don’t know which way to go
Hypersexualize, or downplay your femininity
Dress like the dudes, or pray to God that you’re pretty
Are you kidding me? And I don’t even know who’s to blame
Beauty sells, I buy it too, I’m trying to sell it back it you.
CHORUS
So tell me, what’s a woman to do-no, scratch that
Tell me what’s a human being to with the fact that
What gets us ahead just holds us back more
Is a level playing field too much to ask for?
And I know that by saying it, I'm bringing attention
To an issue that might be better left unmentioned -
but someone's gotta say it, gotta call out the scene
the scene is obscene, my sanity's split at the seams
So to all of ya’ll making this just about ass and tits
here to set the record straight, it don’t gotta be this way
We can change the game, rearrange the way to fame
And make a bigger deal about the talent than the face
See I got little girls watching me, wanting to be like me,
And I wanna show them that they don’t gotta be like me
They can do their own thing, they can rewrite the rules
They can get respect without acting like fools
So lets not make it harder than it has to be
I’ll keep making music, you stop asking me
What’s it like to be a girl in the entertainment world,
Cuz now you know
"who gave us the idea that 'female-fronted' was a genre anyway?"
YES THANK YOU
Ngl I like to search for female frontend bands 😅 I like the female voice better than male not saying everyone sounds the same just more calming
I feel like those complaining about the song haven't gotten the full meaning of the song.
+cherrieblossomgurl ^ Yes.
+cherrieblossomgurl posers will never understand
Sad, but true.
+cherrieblossomgurl I don't like the lyrics, because of the bluntness, if it had mixed in a few more metaphors, it would be more my style. That's just a personal preference, I like songs that make you think about them before you fully know what they're about. That's just my personal thing though. That being said, I don't really sexualize people, so presumably, this song could hit someone who foes like a wall because of the bluntness.
+Phil Scheurman but sometimes it's good to have things told straight
People need to understand that true artists create art they themselves love. It is obvious that not everyone is going to like someone's art. However, what's more important is that you're happy with what you're doing. So don't ask people to do something of your taste or to go back to where they started. It is their art, not yours. It would be fake to do something just for the audience if you're ignoring what your heart desires.
Kevin Rivera "It would be fake to do something just for the audience if you're ignoring what your heart desires. "
Exactly and it amazes me that people don't get this since they literally JUST said they were going independent because they hated that the record label made them change their lyrics so they wouldn't offend someone.
+Kevin Rivera Art that the creator doesn't like will show off in the end product.
+HeliosXII Uchida Cy u you IV
So a bunch of people are so upset that Ariel finally came lashing out and said "I'm not fucking eye-candy!" Because she said "fuck" in a song and this is a "Christian" band. #smh
See, they never wanted to be called a "Christian" band, and it was a false label to begin with. Now they wanna do their own thing and use strong words to get an important point across, and now some of you people hate it! I think that's part of the point of this song: to tell people the truth. And if you people who are upset to hear that they arn't the goody two-shoes Christian band can't accept that, then I suppose you just arn't the audience that Icon for Hire was made for. Which is fine as long as you accept the reality that Ariel is trying to portray in this song.
TheRetroRenegade I don't know about everyone else, but it's not the F word for me. I may be a bit sad they chose that word, but I listen to and love other songs with it in it. The problem is that lyrically this song is not even half as good as their other ones. I understand lyrics are written on experiences, and I guess Ariel has had a lot of sexism when it comes to her singing. I want her to stay true to herself, and if this is it, then good for her. But this isnt the IFH I know. And with songs like Theatre, Off with Her Head, Get Well, etc.....I was looking forward to more of that. I understand bands evolved, because people do too. I'm not gonna bash them, and I will still listen to them.
***** I can agree that this song sounds quite different from their other previous work, and the rhyming and flow is a little off, but it feels like the passion is so real that it kinda reminds me of a song written by Zach de la Rocha. I think that counts for something.
***** That's the funny thing about them because when I added their CDs to my box 360 they came up by default as "Religious" and they totally arn't - I mean, were never - religious band.
TheRetroRenegade That's the thing though, they weren't a religious band, but they purposely played to a religious audience. They are a band who has Christians in it and their lyrics on their first album had Christian undertones, in which they played Christian festivals. Plus, they were signed on a Christian label. So yes, they weren't Christian, but their audience expected a certain type of music. And if they don't want to, that's their prerogative. Still feel let down from their previous stuff though.
***** They never purposely played to a religious audience. The religious audience came from the fact that they signed to a Christian label, because they were young and eager, and thought being signed to a label meant that they had made it because they were inexperienced and wanted what every band used to want...a record deal! Their music carried a good, positive message, but no where in any of their songs was there anything about religion of any kind. As for playing Christian festivals...the label most likely influenced that as well. But they never have been, nor ever wanted to be a Christian band. Their music was a positive message to the world, not to the church.
Who gives a flip if they cursed in one song? This song is fire, and she isn't pulling ANY punches.
Which is awesome. If they were still signed by that "Christian" label this song would never have been made. Now that they are independent they can do and say whatever they want. Which is awesome!
I absolutely love when Ariel drops the f bomb. It one of my favorite parts because is completely different from what Tooth & Nail Records had them singing
Guys don't worry this song isn't a premier of their "new" sound. This is just a song that calls out the gender roles in the modern music industry.
+Mrs. Limes I like the song by the way I just don't like people complaining.
So many people are complaining. Least your not. :)
Great song, I'm a big fan of your older work. But this song kicks ass. I love it when bands change their sound it keeps them fresh.
Big thumbs up from the Netherlands!!!
Matthew Headbang YES! another Dutch fan :D ik hoop echt dat ze een Europa Tour gaan doen!
Anouk Geurts volgens mij kwamen ze met de Vans Warped Tour langs... maar dat weet ik niet zeker.
Matthew Headbang Nope, they don't :(
Anouk Geurts Same here. Cheers from Czech. I saw IFH in Prague once and I wish they could return back.
Same here this song is so good greatz from the netherlands!
They never WANTED to be a goody two shoes Christian band and I'm glad to see them let loose and hit you over the head with it. People don't seem to understand that Icon has fight to do what they do for us. Sure its not the greatest song they've done but it gets the cold hard truth out into the light that they had a dream to be a band and they aren't letting anyone keep them down anymore. That is determination and passion that I can stand behind proudly.
y'all more interested in the fact that it has swearing than the message of the song wtf
Right. it's ridiculous.
:)
+Maxwell Han I'm just kind of put off by the crappy dancing in the video lol. Good song though.
Omg your picture xP I love Fall Out Boy and all it's members.
Nothing in the song was necessary. Stop offending yourself.
Guys, understand, a true band chang their style sounds. Icon For Hire is a true band. Don't hate, just enjoy the music
I'm not gonna stop listening to them, just because its a different sound a message does not mean I have to hate them. all bands go through changes, so why should they be any exception?
People saying they're gonna stop listening right now are over reacting, they should at least give them a chance on a new album first. Yes, every band changes and some people may not like their new sound, but it's okay for them not to like new sound. We fall in love with the band the very first time we here them and we fall in love with the sound we first hear. If a band changes sound of course some people won't like the new sound. It's like if your favourite food changes it's recipe you may not like that particular brand/food anymore! It like, I'm not too keen on Paramore's new sound, I still like them but I love their old music more. This song however is a bit different, but it does remind me of some songs from their self titled.
Not s true fan if u stop listening after one new song!
JaseyJasee ikr, when avril lavigne released hello kitty, did I like, not exactly, but I wasn't gonna stop listening to her
packers4life! Exactly my point! It's stupid for people to say that they're completely gonna stop listening to an Artist because of one song. If you don't like that song, or a few songs just don't listen to that particular song.
packers4life! besides there is some rock in this
Seriously "girl" isn't a music genre... Love you guys!
+JillyBeanNxD And Christians cuss, as well as have a full fucking range of emotions. Get the fuck over it, last I checked it also wasn't a Christian's place to judge so harshly.
*Slow clap* *Raises hands and bows head in awe*
This, is why I fucking respect you guys so much...
Raw, honest, and a kick ass beat! If this is foreshadowing the lyrics to come then I'm fucking pumped for more! Keep it up guys!!!
This song is really awesome but you guys are gonna have new rock tracks, right ?? :')
Hopefully
mohammad sharif Probably not. When bands go from rock to techno, dubstep, or any other electronic crap, they tend to stay in that genre because it sells more.
AV Kryshtal there is nothing wrong with new sound and electronic isn't crap btw lol
Craig Britton You probably only say that because you like electronic music. If Icon For Hire went to a heavier genre like thrash metal, most people wouldn't be saying, "there is nothing wrong with new sound."
AV Kryshtal lol that would be wicked lol I love thrash metal also ha ha idk the sound of music... As long as it sounds good to my ears it's love really lol
Lyrics anyone?
Chorus

Sadly these lyrics are true about a lot of female fronted bands its because alot of them put themselves out there and ppl don't listen to there music at all because all they want is nudity its very sad though
Anouk Geurts The lyrics were in the description....
Can someone please tell me why everyone is flipping shit about them swearing? For fucks sake, it's not the end of the world.
PS: this song is great. I saw them perform it live yesterday, and you guys KILLED it
Ikr it makes no sense
Because everyone thinks there a Christian band but they aren't everyone just assumes
Omg your right there just words
+Aiyana Jones are you kidding me. they USED to be christian and it used to be two different guys. Also the older songs are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better then this crap. Her voice sounds a lot better.
+Stormi Sisco they were until this happened
Everyone is Like Omg I hate them now and I'm over here like OMGGG YEESSS I LOVVEEEEE THISSS YESSSSSS
she can bust some rhymes. damn i'm in love
I'm loving the new music! I've had it on repeat ever since I found it! You guys are amazing and I hope to see you live some time!
Samantha Mondorff They are amazing live! I saw them at Warped last year and going to see them again this year! I hope you get to see them live one day too!
I saw them live today at warped tour and they were even better in person.
+Samantha Mondorff First of all, oh my fucking god YESSS CHLOE FROM LIFE IS STRANGE,
and second of all 100% same here xD
OMG! CHLOE HELLA PRICE PROFILE PICTURE! I already like you and I don't even know you. You made me smile today. CHLOE PRICE!
Katniss Everdeen BASICALLY
As a guy, I love hearing strong women actually stand up for themselves and force anyone who looks down on them to look them in the eye. I would never assume a woman is anything but equal, because of how my mother, a single mom, raised me. I hope Icon For Hire releases a new album soon. You have helped me out when I least expected it and I thank you for that.
BAD ASS SONG!!!
So fucking honest. I adore this song!
Thank you so much for this song. You guys are such a breath of fresh air in the music industry, managing to make _amazing_ music with an actual message behind it.
A new song????? From my favorite band??? YESSSS :D
Oh my god, I'm BEGGING for a collab with Kerli!! It never hit me until now what gorgeous and powerful music you guys could make, you both have that perfect vibe. If this is the raw and honest Icon For Hire, then I just discovered how much more I really love you guys ❤
Oh my god I'm freaking out, I love this and need more new music !!!!
The sound is really different from the other albums! I love the diversity.
Kind of surprised by the language though as the other ones were much more subtle on that... but this song speaks volume.
Right, so, I'm seeing a lot of hate down here, and I want to give some love. I liked this song, a lot. I liked the message, I liked the way you guys stated it, and I'm really freaking glad you're bringing attention to an important issue! Ignore the haters and the people complaining about the presence of curse words, please, please, /please/. You guys are fabulous and inspirational, especially when you play it how you mean it. Keep making great music just how you are, no matter what everyone else says. Love y'all
Agreed! You guys rock! Keep it up ~ I am so looking forward to your new songs!
Same here! This song is not the best they've made, but it is the BEST message. I love this, everyone's gonna take a step back and ain't nobody gonna be messing with Icon for a hella long time now! You guys ROCK.
Josie Serpan I'm not a big fan of how this sounds more pop than anything else, but I am a die hard fan of the band, and somewhat a friend to them as well, so I will support them no matter what. Having said that, I do like the song, and I especially like the lyrics. Lyrically, I think this is one of the best songs Ariel has ever written, so if this is a sign of things to come from them being free from the label, I am looking forward to hearing more of her unedited, uncensored writings. But I do hope as far as music wise, that they mix it up a little like they did on the last album.
Beautiful, been dying to hear some new IFH music. ^__^
Can I just point out that Icon For Hire never said explicitly that they were a Christian band, it's just that their music was picked up by the Christian music scene. So everyone hating on this song because it doesn't fit their "Christian image" needs to back up because they never had a Christian image, and by you trying to push them back to making music that could be considered Christian you are doing the same thing their label did which is not allowing them to express themselves and make the music they want. So just keep that in mind
They directly said they weren't a Christian band
Most of Icon For Hire's songs is about being true to yourself and authentic, so for those "fans" all I can say that you don't like their previous stuff and when they start making music they consider true to them you start bashing on it, pull your shit together.
Then they deceived us, we thought that was the real them and then they make this.
NOAH BOCK This is the real them. It didn't use to be because they were influenced by a Christian label that didn't let them produce this kind of music. They never 'deceived' you. They were set boundaries to what they could produce due to their label.
+NOAH BOCK It was still them, just censored. Now they have freedom to do what they want.
I found this band just by browsing music, and I have to admit I am glad. She is very talented and has a great voice that delivers a realistic message.
I love this band for this song.
So here I am, in Europe we just woke up, and as every morning I perform the ritual of flicking through my instagram, where I found the welcome news of a new Icon song available!
Whoohoooooo! Great, I think to myself, but before I hunt for the headphones I might as well linger in bed a bit longer and read some comments from the Army. And quite honestly I can't remember ever seeing a more divided audience in years!
So much so that I was rather nervous to hear the song myself, having to choose which side of the fence you sit in can be rather daunting.
But now I've done it, and I'm glad I did. The sound is different from what we're used to, granted, but the lyrics are as strong as you'd expect, and that's what matters the most.
I don't think there's one band (worthy of this name) on earth that hasn't changed sound during its career, and that is part of their development as artists.
And if this sound doesn't please you, so be it... But before you cry out that's a sellout or a total change of direction, just wait for the rest of the album.
I had similar feelings when Halestorm published Apocalyptic, I honestly worried Lzzy had turned into Taylor Momsen for a while. Not that there's something wrong with Taylor either, just don't particularly like the Pretty Reckless much... Regardless, when I heard the rest of Into the Wild Life, I was blown away, and now I enjoy Apocalyptic too. I guess it was like being handed over a jigsaw piece without knowing what the whole picture looked like.
So back to the Icon... We have been gifted with a brand new jigsaw piece, let's all enjoy it for what it is, and wait for the rest of the picture to develop. That's what I'll do, in any case... And if you are there to stay in the Army and support our Icon, then don't forget to leave a tip, we're their label after all... ;)
Yes!!! Love it!!!
Keep going with your awesome music!
This song is so good. Why isn't it more popular.
Nice song, makes a good point...release your third album already!
Not sure about the sound but I love the sincerity of the lyrics..
This is a powerful track.
This is why Icon For Hire is my favorite band.
I like the lyrics, but I don't know how i feel about the style yet.
Took me about a month to get use to Cynics and Critics (I like it more than scripted now however).
autocraticFAL Yeah initially I didn't like the style but now I've been listening to it on repeat for a while lol
i bow down to your talent and your words. yes, yes, more of that please!!
I'm completely fine with the cursing, I don't see a problem with it. Personally I don't see what's so bad about 'bad words'; they're just words. They're words associated with bad things but there's words associated with bad things that aren't swears. There's an amazing video by vsauce that goes really in depth about this called "why are bad words bad?" It's very interesting and I thoroughly recommend it.
I'm not a huge fan of 'rapping'... In fact I can only just stand it but with the message of this song I can deal with it. This is the kind of message that needs to be shared in the music industry. As I've always said, never judge an album by its first single. I never liked some of the first singles released from what are now my favourite albums.
Good song, I'm glad you're making the music you want to make Icon For Hire.
It was an absolute pleasure dancing in the desert with IFH on their DOPE music video for this song. Ariel and Steve are so kind and humble. Couldn't have asked for a better set of artists to work with. We hope you guys enjoy the video once it releases!
"Oh this is nothing like The Scripted. Waa waa waaa" Oh shut up and listen to this amazing song they've worked hard on. They're allowed to explore different genres like EVERY BAND WILL DO. If you were a true fan, you've give it all a chance.
Please, PLEASE, PLEASE Icon, don't stop. I'm not even amarican nor english and I LOVE your music! This one song made me understand a lot of things I couldn't understand before, about you :) I always thought that your lyrics before were just too perfect for a normal band, and with "normal", I mean "succucus to the mainstream". WE ALL LOVE YOU ICONS, PLEASE DON'T EVER STOP.
T&N definitely wouldn't have approve of the truth. Amazing job Icon for Hire, see you at Warped Tour. =)
Love this songs its amazing and it blowed my mind to hear ariel swear alot she rarely does you go girl!!😘xxx
Glad you all are still around! I see the frustration in the lyrics; as long as you're being legit and passionate regardless of words used to get there, I'll be listening. Although, I do hope there's a heavy rock song upcoming :D - To everyone who is peeved about the cussing/swearing w/e, try to think back to anytime you got upset or pissed off or even got into a car accident, I doubt most of you thought or said to yourselves "Oh dear.".
As a female lead guitarist in the classic rock world, this song is 100% true.
This song is absolute gold omfg 👏👏
This needed to be said! This sing is everything I wanted and more love this!! Xx
Hell yeah! Best new song, can't wait for the rest!!!! XD
Oh my God.I have loved this band for years now and I swear Ariel blows my mind overtime.Love this.
YES IM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS hell yes speak the damn truth Ariel
I'm not usually a fan of rap, but I really like this. I came for the sound and stayed for the lyrics. I know people are complaining that this isn't what Icon for Hire "usually" sounds like, but it's still so obviously Icon that their complaints are kind of ridiculous. You guys keep this up, it's great. ^-^
I don't understand why everyone is freaking out about this song, I've been listening since Scripted and I like that each album sounds different
Keeps it interesting, and shows there talent that they can adapt to other genres
And seriously people......she said Fuck.......BIG DEAL! SO DOES FUCKING EVERYONE!!!
As a scroll the comments I notice a lot of negativity. But understand this, the last two albums (no matter how good they are). This is the music they want to write. This is the music they were asked to change time and time again so like Ariel states, they didn't piss people off. They left their label to create what they wanted. Couldn't be more proud of them and honestly I look forward to what they've kept back.
You dominate all aspects of my tastes, Thank you guys :) keep rocking
but and I still want to hear your song about ladygaga
Best song icon has made so far! Equality anthem. This is what you guys should keep doing. This sounds like you love put so much pent up frustration in it.
is really good!!!
This song is flawless, yes they style is way different but that doesnt matter! The song is about the message and im so glad someone finally said it, opened up about how difficult it is to work in the music industry as a female and with so much confidence too! Honestly, i look up to ariel and the band so much.
Ok, so in one song she talks about having little girls looking up to her, then drop profanity. It definitely grabs your attention, and makes you uncomfortable about something they WANT you to feel uncomfortable about. The truth isn't always pretty and they do a good job of showing that.
The Pregnant Psychopath Not everyone feels "profanity" is bad.
napsterbater yeah, I have mixed feelings about it myself. I see both sides where not everyone wants to hear f-bombs all the time, but on the other hand it certainly is a way to get peoples attention if necessary.
This could also become a bigger deal for them because christianity is associated with them, and christians are expected to be perfect and such. I mean, there aren't many "non-christian" rock bands that don't swear at least once in their career. But that's a whole other REALLY RETARDED topic.
The Pregnant Psychopath Except, they are not a "christian" band, and never claimed to be.
napsterbater true, but they are christians. Many people don't really get the difference. The whole thing is overrated, and I could probably rant about it for a while but i won't XP
The Pregnant Psychopath Kind of agree, here. I have nothing wrong with the occasional 'bad word' in a song if it's not too hugely featured, etc, but as a kid who heard lots of swearing at home, some of it directed at them in early childhood, I really try to avoid swearing if at all possible. I just see it as unnecessarily harsh or crude unless you're really trying to make a point.
That said, I'm fine with them trying out their new style...so long as they don''t make a habit of the swearing. A lot of people do actually take their families to concerts; and especially since we know they can write good stuff without swearing, it makes it seem all the more unnecessary.
I HAD BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!! Guess I have a new favourite song. I really, really love you!!!
I'm only disappointed in the fact that all these "fans" are bashing the new song, when this song is so needed in this current age. I'm a teen male, and I'm absolutely sick and tired of the way females are itemized and treated so revoltingly. I do prefer clean lyrics but at a time like this, stronger vernacular gets the point across. I love you Icon for Hire, I'm pre-ordering your next album the second it comes out
I love Ariel more and more with each song.
This gave me chills
Honestly guys I loved your previous stuff because it was already so honest! I loved that I could listen to you and relate without having to listen to trash.. And in a world like this that is extremely hard to find. And it's really sad that that to is gone. I'm gonna miss who you were.
Is it just me or did I already see this group of raiders in fallout 4?
This is actually one of the best songs I have heard all year
Are people seriously complaining that she said "fucking" one time in this song? Last time I checked this wasn't a "Christian" band. It seems that these days any band that doesn't swear in their lyrics is automatically deemed a "Christian" band. Well FYI using swear words to put an emphasis on what you're trying to say isn't a new trend and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. This songs message is strong and the topic is often over looked in fact complaining about the presence of the word "Fucking" is you overlooking the actual meaning of the song. Sorry but I had to rant about this, it happened way to often to band who don't swear or do little swearing in their lyrics.
+xxxDRCODxxx they were never a christian band, but restricted by a "christian" label
+RanndomUndead Yeah I know just making my point.
How could anyone not like this? It's absolutely badassssss
Are people really that offended because she swore? Seems like some people need to get over themselves.
Also people keep saying they have changed, but this would be fitting on their second album so I don't know where they are getting that idea.
THANK YOU
This song is the real kick to face of those who think men are superior to women... Love this song and Ariel 😍 keep making such meaningful songs .
More for those that believe that women are sexual objects before human beings.
I miss the rock sound but it's not my band :) I love the lyrics for this song
+Basking In The Ambiance Same for me. I've fallen in love with Icon for Hire for the rock. But still cool now. Even if I miss the rock sound too ^.^)
The rock stuff's not over.
Quote from Ariel:
"We're bringing the pop stuff, and the rap stuff, and the rock stuff."
Can I just say I love the anger in this song? :D
The song really isn't that bad. I've been a fan since scripted but I feel like Ariel changed. First time I met her she was so nice took a picture with her and everything then when I saw them at warped this year she completely ignored me and this girl but then her dad bought her like all this merch and all of a sudden she got Ariels full attention. idk I'm sure she's nice but she kinda hurt my feelings there bc I couldn't even get her autograph but the guys were so nice and talked to me for a bit before I had to go.
+fabstyles That's what happened the first year i saw them at warped she took a picture with me and I got their autographs. It wasn't only Ariel it was with all of them. I wasn't able to buy merch this year from them so when I walked up to them to meet Ariel and the boys they had no interest and ignored me and pushed me away.
I feel the same way, I feel like she's really changed.
+guinness4life hahaha omg that made me laugh so hard "and punched a baby" XDDDDDDD
+fabstyles q Ariel has not changed, Warped is just a bad environment for bands, the heat gets to them, they have to deal with all sorts of people, including half naked people coming up trying to hang all over them, and Ariel has that thing about germs that makes it even more difficult for her to deal in an environment like that, and there are guys coming up behind her, grabbing her and hugging her which freaks her out when she doesn't see it coming and can't stop it from happening. I've known her since the beginning, and I spent time with her and the guys at Warped this year, she is still the same sweet girl she has always been, but she has bad days just like the rest of us. ALL of them are the same humble people they have always been, in fact I have bonded more with the guys in the recent times I've hung with them than I ever have.
+Richie Herlinger with my expierance around her she did change not a lot but she did.
As always i love the fact that Icon for Hire's lyrics always has some sort of message in the music it's one of the reasons i love them.
I was really hoping that the last video, about the label making you something you weren't, meant that you were going back to a sound more similar to your first album but, whereas your last album had pop elements, this sounds like something off a nicki minaj cd and I find that very depressing...
Their first album was their label limiting them to one sound. For their self-titled, they recorded it as far from the label as possible to have a sound that they were going for on Scripted.
Jordon Kear Exactly what I was thinking...
I guess they were around that other stuff too long.
Jordon Kear There's nothing wrong with exploring music styles a little bit. It's actually quite beneficial to finding what you do best.
***** I would imagine it's going to be a mix of many styles, mainly rock, pop, and hip hop, like the last album. They've said that the self titled album is the album they wished Scripted had been, or something similar to that nature
Dylan Parsons That doesn't make sense to me seeing as labels tend to sign bands based on the sound they already have. It's after the first album when they gauge the size of audience that the band has that they start throwing pasta at the wall.
Some will never truly understand why musicians do what they do it's not because they're trying to be famous, a lot of bands love what they do and they love the support of their fans. Who cares if they swear or curse. Does it really matter. Besides sometimes swearing is another way to get your emotions out. I personally hope that she keeps doing what she's doing I honestly will give her the thumbs up.
I was pretty happy for a new song by them but this isn't my favorite. Still love them but I hope the other songs are better
psychobear10 I agree with you (:
*****
so far. there working on a new album i think
+ExoticLiving Doll No. They also released Bam Bam Pop on their two song EP
I do believe I've found my summer anthem! Loving all those truthbombs!
The cursing is a little bit much, considering it was practically non-existent on both of the previous albums. I feel they've always been good at getting a point across through clever lyrics and cursing just feels like a placeholder for a lack of vocabulary. Regardless this is still pretty good.
I can see that there's people that don't like this song. Me on the other hand I can't take it off of repeat because I love it so much. The lyrics for this song is literally what I've been thinking, especially for that last verse. Especially the part about calling out the scene and little girls being able to get respect without acting like fools. Someone needed to do it. I am going to continue being a fan of this band because they're real about their music. As for the cussing in the song, I think it just makes them sound more serious about it. I'm looking forward to the new album coming and seeing them perform at Warped this year on August 2nd :)
How did we come from "Make a Move" to this...? Smh...
BewilderedToad Even though this sounds like it could be on their second album?
I only listened to Scripted, besides Cynics and Critics I didn't like their second album :P but again they can change their sound all they want, I'm not the one in a band I'm just some asshole at his computer with opinions n_n
I'm falling in love all over again. I adore this song.
I am extremely disappointed. Wow this is terrible. What happened ?
Brandon Smith well you must be one of those people that Tooth & Nail didn't want them to piss off, because now that they are free to do and say what they want, they are probably gonna piss some people off, because now the lyrics are stronger, more meaningful, and direct to the point! No holding back anymore!
Richie Herlinger I appreciate you not being very rude with your reply to my post. I do understand what is happening and the kind of band that want to be. However I just wish they wouldn't have attracted all the tooth and nail audience then break their hearts like this. It would be different if they were never with a Christian labor. That being said there are many younger people very influenced by IFH and as a youth leader I can no longer support this band or recommend it to the youth that loved the music before. Just disappointed that they were not really the band many thought they were.
Brandon Smith Dont get it wrong, they are still the same band, still carrying a positive message that should be supported, it's just that with T & N, they couldn't be so direct with their lyrics and say what really needed to be said. Their views have not changed, they are still a positive band, just with more freedom to be more direct with their writing now! I get what you're saying about not wanting kids to hear this kind of language, but honestly I don't get the point of sheltering them from it. They are gonna hear it somewhere, so why not from some Christians with positive views, where the words are used to emphasize issues that people struggle with, and shine some light on said issues. Also, nowhere in the Bible does it say that cursing is a sin, so I don't get what is so bad about a curse word or 2 here and there. I know it says something like "Thall shall not bring others down with your words, because words are powerful" or something like that, but Ariel is not bringing anyone down the way she uses these words, she is lifting people up! Just my opinion on the matter!
I can't believe that they turned to this... I love this band so much, i was so excited when my sister said there was a new song... then she played it, and i almost cried. This... this isn't right. There aren't supposed to be sexual suggestions (at least not so blunt as this) and there shouldn't be cursing, excuse me while i cry my eyes out because I've just lost another thing in my life. :'(
Aliyah A First, there are no sexual suggestions in this song. Ariel is saying that females in the music world are more than just tits and ass in the industry. That's the complete opposite of suggesting sex. She is actually suggesting LESS sexual objectification of females in the industry! As for the curse word...how about you stop focusing on that word, and listen to the sentence the word is in "I'm not fucking eye candy"....she is expressing her anger over how women get objectified in the music world, and what better way to express anger than with a little strong language! It's used in a positive way! Admit it, if she had not used that word, that line wouldn't have had the same impact. It was a brilliant placing of a much needed stronger word to better express the emotion she is conveying!
Hope of morning.. i listened to them a few times and looked you guys up.. i checked out your other songs, approved, listened, became i loyal fan. I found out you had a web show, the REL show. I caught up on that, i took words of inspiration from you and applied it to my life. I cant begin to tell you how much i thank you, icon for hire changed my life and it shows, my attitude, spirit, personality, self confidence, all changed, my friends and family noticed how much better ive become. I may
I'm disappointed in this. You guys were cool and down to earth, but what is this?
I love the point she is making and how the boys are supportive of her for it.
You know, the Christian thing is whatever (I am one myself,) the swearing is just lazy writing in my opinion. ANY swearing in lyrics is just lazy and reeks of lack of creativity in my opinion, but I'm not even worried about that.
I'm just worried that they're another sell-out band that's conforming to the lazy, tasteless trashy writing that the pop/rap/r&b word produces nowadays. It's pathetic music, and this song hints that they are going that route. Plenty of "artists" who lack any genuine musical talent are in rap and pop. You may be worried about being a woman and selling out, but the MUSIC indicates of sell-out.
This comes from a fan who bought your last two cd's and loved your ep/underground stuff. I listened the heck out of those songs. Fall Apart and Call Me Alive were great, musically and lyrically. That stuff KILLS any music out in the current pop world, and it had the "in your face" message you guys have loved to show in your music. Why not continue that road?
Too lazy to read last paragraph but I think they are just using different styles in each album to appeal different types of viewers. Scripted was rock. "Icon for hire" was Pop. This single is poppish/rap. They are just trying to get the message out by creating music some people like. The majority of people in the U.S. Like pop and rap so that's how they'll get attention
I'm not sure how much I love the tune of this song but I'm in love with the message
how the fuck was this band listed on a metal band list this is so hippy hoppy it makes my ears bleed? This is NOT metal.
+LeaffyStar19 And who are you referring to that played with them a couple times. Because I have known them pretty much since the beginning, and they have not really changed! They have grown up, but not really changed. They are all still really good people! As I said, they have just grown up, and learned the hard way how cut throat the music industry can be, and yea, that shit can take it's toll on ANY band, but they are still good, decent people!
I love this song ♥
IconForHire -> Best Group EVER ♥♥♥
Brace for the feminists and social justice warriors
got to admit instruments are important to me, it moves me, and just being honest this is no what i'm used to bumping on my headphones when i'm walking out late at night, at work, jogging.
but you guys have a way with lyrics that get me, looking forward to the new sound icon puts out.
keep it up i really have grown used to you guys and can say with pride you are my favorite band with female lead vocals. hope that dose not sound like a dis because it also makes you my 2nd favorite band, and really to me it means a lot.
After purchasing the last two albums, I was looking forward to seeing what you guys would produce as an independent.. but, I'm sad to say that I will be unsubscribing/unfriending and let you guys fade into the billions of other trashy bands without any real message. I liked the positive messages on the previous albums and I liked it even more that I could listen to them with the kids in the room/car. For some reason, I thought you guys were better than that.
James Zawacki It's a shame that people like you are gonna turn your backs on this great band over ONE song. And calling them trashy? You obviously were never a real fan to begin with, otherwise you would appreciate the fact that THIS is who they have been all along, and were being held back by a Christian label! And to say the message in this song is not a positive one?? Did u even listen to it! How much more positive can it be? This song is about a BIG issue that is seen A LOT in todays world! The objectifying of women in the music and entertainment industry! So how about stop having a cow over a couple curse words, I'm sure your kids hear worse on a daily basis, and if they don't, perhaps u need to think about stop sheltering them from life!
Richie Herlinger First, it's not over one song, they might as well be a completely different band. I'll agree, I'm not a fan of this version of Icon For Hire and if ,"THIS is who they have been all along", I would have never been one. As for the message in this song.. Yeah.. Females in the music industry sure is a huge issue with their audience... oh wait.. no, it's not. As for sheltering my children, sorry.. I'm not going to drive to your house in the ghetto and let my kids run in the streets flipping the bird and cursing out everyone that walks by them. If that's your life style, that's up to you, but my kids showing respect and having a proper vocabulary is ours.
James Zawacki Yes, it IS over one song, because this is the only new song they have released, and the only song of theirs that has any cursing in it, so that's one song!
Secondly, the fact that you pretend to know a single thing about my life and how I live shows me exactly what kind of person you are! You are one of those people who think you are better than someone who might live in a ghetto. Well guess what jackass, you are no better than anyone else on this planet! Maybe I did live in a ghetto growing up, and listened to music that was far worse than this on a daily basis, but I was raised right, to be polite, and give respect where is is due. I was taught to hold the door for women, give up my seat so my elders could sit down, to say things like yes sir, please and thank you, I am a perfect gentleman when I want to be...so instead of trying to shelter your kids from a couple curse words, maybe you should focus on letting them actually experience life and just raise them right, because sheltering them will only backfire on you!
James Zawacki wow your kind of a jerk! How do u know he lives in the ghetto? And if he does I didn't know that made u a better person because u live in the suburbs! Hope you teach your kids not to be as judgmental as you are! I would listen to this with my kids but they definitely know they aren't allowed to cuss its not the first or the last time they will hear a curse word!
Richie Herlinger
I'll play along.. How many kids do you have, and what ages? Since, you seem to have so much parental experience, to give me advice on how to raise mine.
Love this song, the lyrics mean so much. I don't understand how everyone can say that this song is different from their regular sound, lol, it sounds almost like it came off of their self titled. Also, what's up with everyone hating on the cussing? Cussing isn't s terrible thing, it's used to emphasize the lyrics, and isn't overused like much of the things that are on the radio now. This so has a great message.
I'd also like to touch on everyone acting so high and mighty, acting like that this song isn't super Christian like the rest of their music. Their music was never Christian, despite having Christian influences. They don't have to label their music to get across a message.
