    Picking up on your note of regional differences, I'd like to add that some Southern China families have an immediate family get together to welcome in the new year to the home with chicken and incense before the actual day of spring festival, then have another celebration on new year's day itself to open up the new lunar year.

      @@thatbrowngirl2775 I studied chinese in primary school. In Malaysia, most of the Malaysian Chinese parents sent their kids to chinese school and this is the reason I know chinese. Btw, where r u from?

    Not only dumplings, but also Nian gao (rice cake)~ pray and make wishes to your ancestors (or Buddha,etc) as well.

    中国春节是个大团圆的日子,中国的家庭是非常紧密的,虽然历史上的氏族已经成了过去式,但是过年依旧会去邀请父母子女,兄弟姐妹,邻里相亲一起来吃饭过节,这就是现在的大家族。
    每到春节,在外打拼的游子就会不远万里回到家去看望父母,这不仅是传统,更是一种华夏人的信仰。中国自古就是以孝治国,按我们的说法“父母在,人生尚有来处;父母去,人生只剩归途”
    中国春节开始,先在门外桌子摆上食物瓜果,然后开始烧纸钱,这是迎接已故的先祖们进来一起团圆,然后邀请村子里的邻居一起来吃饭,今天来我家吃,明天可能就是来你家吃,过年的这几天一定是不缺美食的。
    中国的文化真的太美了,如果你想了解中国,一定要去了解一下古诗,真的很美,此生无悔入华夏。

    You’re suppose to clean the house before new year. You can’t clean during the first 2-3 days cos it’s bad luck. Same goes with decluttering.

    thanks, I always wanted to know, but I heard in an kids show called peppa pig that they hide the brooms when they finish cleaning to lose the bad luck and welcome the new year, anyways thank you, I appreciate it.

      Hello! A homemade 红包 (hóng bāo) - red envelope - is a great gift for teachers on Chinese New Year! You could use red paper to make the envelope, handwrite 福 (fú) on the front, and put something simple inside: a thank you letter, a little bit of money, a gift card, whatever you think they’d like! Hope that helps! 😊

      好眼力,好细心👍不过应该没反。上下联可从尾字平仄,时间前后,因果关系,空间与大小关系区分。位置的话,古代多以上左下右(人面对门而言,对人来讲就是上右下左),因为横批都为从右往左书写。但现代因为书写习惯发生了变化的原因,横批多为从左到右,因此上联位置应与横批方向一致,所以视频中的上联在观众面向屏幕的左侧,这个应该没问题。

      I think Chinese New Year is becoming like Christmas which different culture all can celebrate it. They are so welcomed to however some people want to change the name to Lunar New Year to share its origin and culture. It's really not cool to Chinese ppl.

    Lunar New Year, NOT Chinese New Year as other Asian nations have the same holiday. Term 'Lunar' has been used for decades. Do not ignore neighboring countries. The current China's mindset is not fit for the world stage.
