What exact software is necessary for these simulations? There's apparently a free for-students version of ANSYS; are these simulations feasible in that edition?

Can the solver file from Autodyne be transferred to LS-Dyna and vice versa? I haven't touched Autodyne in my life, but the UI seems much more user friendly than Autodyne although I do notice that there are much more EOS type in autodyne than ls dyna

They're using Autodyn made by ANSYS, run in a program/app called Mechanical. ANSYS makes a lot of software packages that can do various types of simulations, but they share some common parts (i.e. Mechanical).
