- Today Jordan Hurt takes us into an amazing, upstate wonder of the world.
Artist Katwise has spent the last 13 years transforming this home into a magical, masterpiece.
In 2009, Kat and her partner purchased ‘a janky old farm’ house near Woodstock, NY next to a pond inhabited by snapping turtles. They began a major renovation project on the traditional 19th-century home both inside and out.

I love this. I will never understand why homes are generally so boring and conformist. The moment you lose your childish desire to explore, have fun and find joy is the moment you give up on life. I'd love to see more homes that look fun and creative on the outside like this!

It's really cheap but I don't have any cash for luxe furniture. I like plants and colors and old shit. LOL So i call it the Bacheloretta' Pad Thai for now. . . .hahha I can't wait until I have my own tiny home that looks like hers!
Hell yeah. I’m eighteen, but I’m really into decorating like this. Sometimes the wall murals admittedly don’t work out but its really fun to surround myself with stuff I think is awesome. My parents think it’s strange but hey there’s far weirder things their son could be doing in his spare time lmao

I was thinking if more young people could afford houses, and if they weren’t completely flat broke after I think there would be more cool houses like this, maybe not to this extent but I think many young people are forced into these tiny white boxes (apartments) and can’t even hang art on the walls. It’s depressing.
Sometimes I wish that the Meow Wolf team could come into my home and just go nuts with design. Same with Kat Wise.

Here in Sweden we could never do this, we need the neighborhoods promomision and an old man once painted his house ombre like a sunset and got to pay and repaint, sometimes I hate Sweden and our Jante-lag.
When she said she never did drugs it made sense. I say that because her art is deliberate and creative in a way, that a mind on psychedelics would look very different. She has a keen eye for detail and a love of color. It's the most awe-inspiring home I have peeped maybe ever...? What a fabulous adventurous soul and she spread her wings far and wide. Right on!

Psychedelic therapy is just one of those great leaps in the mental health space. It’s wonderful and the fact they serve recreational use and health as well. Can’t say I don’t trip once in a while. Is amazing how it helps cleanse your mind and soul.

The trips I’ve been having really helped me a lot. I finally feel in control of my emotions. The things that used to be mundane to me now seem incredible and full of nuance and on top of that I’m way less driven by my ego and I have a lot more empathy as well.
I've been a fan of Kat's since 2006 (?)... it's been while. I've had a couple of her long coats (moved on to other homes once I wasn't able to wear them anymore) and I still have 3 or 4 of her cardigans. I feel as though a part of me lives in that beautiful house through the honor of supporting her art. I remember when she bought the house - I remember hearing about the story of going to the paint store... I've enjoyed watching Calico evolve and grow, and Kat's art reach new audiences. She is one of the reasons I feel confident to pursue "my" art, in whatever that looks like - without apology and in the spirit of creative fulfillment. Thanks to LISTED for a great feature piece and Kat and her story.

I remember Kat from years ago, and her beautiful colourful recycled knitwear coats, and recognised this house when seeing it on video this morning. So lovely to see where she is now.
Kat is the kindest soul and her house is as cool and vibrant as she is. I’ve been buying my arm warmers from her for too many years to count. Still haven’t been able to score a sweater after about ten plus years of trying (they sell out in under 2 minutes). Also, I’m not sure if she still has her blog up, but it had some of the best stories from her life and her travels. Just checked and it’s still there! Go read it. ❤

I can't find a source anywhere for any good psychedelics in my area, I suffer some pretty bad depression and i got a chance to try K and man it was a miracle substance, I felt free,the only high or euphoria was from the relief of my vices being released, that's exactly what it did

Though the style is totally not me, I have to say, it would be tons of fun having these two as neighbors. I'd love to hear some of the stories of their adventures. Very unique and creative home. And I'm definitely going to follow up on learning how to do my wood floors in that shiny blue method. Thought that was very inspired. So glad these two allowed themselves to be showcased.

The whole house is a spectacular work of art, but when they got to the blue floor, I literally gasped and dropped my jaw…it’s exquisite. And it sounds pretty easy and inexpensive. Although I’m not great at executing my elaborate decor ideas, this is giving me so much inspiration for my future home. Thank you!

I'm so glad some people are still able to live out their dreams... I'd seriously rather this cute quaint lil place over the most modern palace! It literally looks like a place my dreams made up!! I've had a passion for the rainbow and all color since long before I can remember!! I'm grateful to have watched this because it shows that it is possible even today regardless of what's happening if there are still just normal regular average unknown people who are living out their dreams then the possibility is still there and knowing it is possible can oftentimes be just enough to produce the hope and inspiration to take action!!

So great! I was a deadhead during the same era and this brought back so much for me. Her style and her house is awesome, and her commentary on resale value coupled with honoring the spirit of the house is so amazing, liberating even! I think a concern for resale value probably keeps a lot of people from making a house into a true home. More homes would mean more people would commit to where they are, to a community, which would be so healthy for our society.

I am in complete awe. This is amazing. It's gorgeous. I love it. I also cannot believe she is 46. I'm 47 and she makes me feel like a granny! I can't imagine trying to keep all that clean, but it looks like they are doing an awesome job of it.
What a story life she leads. Her home is fabulous. So smart, efficient, beautiful, creative beyond dreams. This is a woman who came here to live the most creative colourful journey life and she did it very well. Amazing woman.

She did a great job, but I don't think many people at all can do something as good. It is extremely well-maintained, and she has a trained sense of color. Most people with similar ambitions would end up with something that did not seem quite right. They wouldn't be able to put the finger on why. Katwise is a serious artist.

Well I've been tripping for couple of years now,once had a bad trip but that's a very long time ago though
Psychedelics are the reason why i didn't take my life when i was at my end. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, I'm doing better everyday
LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body.
A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip:
Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before

The scientific method is incredible and can shed a lot of light on the various material aspect of these medicines. But if you really want to know what's going on you have to include other traditional and systems to inform your understanding. Because science has not even began to create the intellectual tools and idea system which can adequately explain these wonderful beings and the way they help, guide and heal us!!
