My current campaign’s original bad guys come from a picture on the magic card Bifurcate made in 1999. I always thought John Matson could really make some unique creatures like the one there or Groffskithur, however quickly found out there was little info on them. I needed a reason they were invading and I thought, what if these creatures were running from something instead of just invading? A short story I found during lockdown called “The Moon is Very Angry” had really stood out to me, so when I learned of Genius Loci being the size of a small moon it became the BBEG (and of course there were others from its realm serving as cultists/heralds of it). From there, i decided to have them level up via chapters (with leeway if they went on a long side quest or few) and wrote the story outline from there. One of the other nations is the Graith, which I picked up from a Guy Flanders campaign podcast and learned they are NOT a standard DnD race after heavily mentioning them in the campaign, so I am filling in those bits. I have tiny Ravnica elements in the story due to one of the characters being a Vedalken, mostly just the city of Prahv and the existence of hybrid creatures like the Raguana (Raccoon-Iguana) and the Gerbilmander, which while Simic in spirit, aren’t canon creations as of yet. Most of the other inspiration comes from the players. The best “what-ifs” I usually try to make possible.
@mynameisspike4086 Old stuff is cool. Sadly, 2nd hand stores in my area, never seem to have cool gaming stuff. If they do, it is gone before I get there

I love taking older materials and giving them new life, whether in DnD or other games. It's why I love 2nd hand stores that carry RPG books.
