- So I’ve Got to Play DEATH TRASH (& It’s Awesome)
Death Trash has been in development by Stephan Hövelbrinks and his small indie developer team Crafting Legends for the past 6 years and this demo is the first publicly available playable version. The developers offered me to play the game and report on it early and I said I’d love to check it out and see if I want to make a video on it.
After playing through the 2-3 hour long demo 3 times I was eager to show you how much of a damn cool, absurd and hilarious post-apocalyptic action RPG dream come true this game is for me. I had a fantastic time.
This demo will be available June 16th through 22 as part of the Steam Next Fest event, Death Trash will hit early access in late summer 2021 with a several times larger playable area and is planned for final release in 2022 for PC, Xbox One, Series S and X, Nintendo Switch as well as PS4 and PS5.
Since this is an early version, bugs and glitches are to be expected.

This is the kind of game that you WANT on Early Access - Something already quite polished with a unique art style and a lot of passion behind it. Really wishing these devs all the best. Looks super promising.
We live in a post-Disco Elysium world. I can't wait to see how future RPG's do and so far, it's looking good.
While I think its one of the best RPGs of all time, I still think the standard is the one Disco Elysium was heavily inspired by. Planescape Torment

This seems like just the right mix of post-apocalyptic satire and incomprehensible eldritch horror, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
Games like this just ooze taleent in such a way that it almost makes me wish I WAS the big rich investor so I could immediately pounce on it only to say, "Don't change a damn thing."

As someone who is really into the post-apocalypse setting and eldritch horror, I found the premise of this game quite lovely! Now if they include the ability to tame and keep around a sentient blob of flesh as a pet it would be a 10/10 on my book.
You can already do this in the demo.

Ones tamed through animalism can only be dropped or killed for meat in the demo, though there is an occultism "spell" available that says it'd summon one to help fight your enemies. The spell isn't actually able to be used in the demo, but you can see it and a few others in the vendor. It's in the town by the machine vendor inside the building.

If you can, I'm unaware of how to go about it. I put animalism at 2 during my time with the demo because I saw capturing the worms as a quick and painless method of acquiring poor man's HP potions, and other than the one occultism spell that has nothing to do with animalism, I never found any way of befriending them that wasn't just picking them up to eat them.
Unfortunately, I assume even that occultism spell given how it's worded just spawns one allied to you on a timer, given it specifically refers to it being used for combat. Occultism letting you get a single permanent pet would actually be pretty sweet though.
This is actually one of those games I heard about being in development years ago and thought it sounded cool, but for some reason or other it fell completely off my radar. Thanks RagnarRox for posting this preview and reminding me! Gonna go wishlist now before I forget again!

This looks great. Thanks for making the video. I liked the look at it during one of the presentations this weekend but didn’t really get a sense of what the gameplay would be like.

Just the fact that an npc asks you to shut the door behind you when you go into their house puts this on my radar. Sometimes its the little things...
Themere mentions of Commandos evocates nostalgia in me, not only were they great games, they were one of the few games I played that came from my country.
I expected to only watch this video for a few seconds just to get the gist of the game, but your commentary was so enjoyable it hooked me through the entire video. Earned a new subscriber.
This is the first time I heard of this game. It looks amazing. I hope they take all the time they need to cook it properly. I'm so tired of games being rushed out incomplete.

Definitely. Also really check out Disco Elysium if you find this concept cool. The thoughts-cabinet is one of the best RPG ideas I've come across in decades.

I really like your outlook on games like this. A lot of gamers find exposition heavy games boring and slow but I love a story that makes you truly suspend disbelief while you are playing. I'm in the middle of playing Disco Elysium but this is up there in my queue. I think it has cut ahead of a lot of games that were in line ;) thanks for the upload!

I'm gonna pause the video and play this demo. Just seeing that it has split screen AND single screen co-op sold me real fast, so I hope it's as good as you made it look in the first 5 minutes of this video. I'll come back to watch the video once I finish it :)

One of the reasons why the best (and most liked) of the "Bethesda-era" of Fallout games is New Vegas is precisely why the others are so polarizing.
Basically, the Bethesda engine used for their entries in both the Fallout series and the Elder Scrolls series has a HUGE potential if used correctly. It's messy, and has tons of bugs and glitches... but also offers choices on how to approach and develop gameplay that were unheard of at the time (meaning over a decade ago... man does time fly). In New Vegas, that engine was used to its full potential... and it's not about the moment-to-moment gameplay nor the combat system (which, apart from the iron sights, it's pretty much the same as Fallout 3), but the use of faction systems, the in-depth mechanics in how you approach several missions and the amazingly open ways in how you can solve problems. I've been playing New Vegas for over 30 hours now, and I've solved dozens of missions without shooting a single bullet. Sometimes I even screw up on purpose because I miss combat, and the game acknowledges that and lets me find a violent solution when I need it! That's both the challenge and the magic of RPG games: they let a player unleash their creativity and face challenges in different ways... but they also have to account for every choice a player makes.
Pure Bethesda titles like Fallout 3 fell short in that regard, but there's no denying that their technology had the potential to offer that digital playground RPG players expect, if used correctly.

I played the demo just this morning and after 10 minutes I wishlisted it, which never hapens, but it ticks all my boxes. As does your channel my good man. I mean seeing as you turned me onto Darkwood I think I can be safely hyped for Death Trash if you're down with it too.

I went into the demo skeptical, because indie games like this one very often fail to satisfy expectations. Now, after three hours of playing I gotta say 1. I can't wait for the full game, 2. I will make an exception to the rule and support this title on early access. Death Trash is going to be amazing!

The name "Ragnar" always reminds me of Bob and Steve xD That little machinima X-Play did on G4 with the co-op mode in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Bob and Steve have a discussion about a cartoon or comic called "Ragnar the Barbarian"

Hey I didn't know the game. It seems very interesting and I want to go in full blind but I gotta ask: is it just a walking sims with lots of dialogues?
I'm glad this actually has a release date (Aug. 5th...But I don't know if that's the finished game, or an early access) and a demo! (downloaded, will play soon). It's been on my Steam list for a while, since I first heard of it.
So many cool seeming games like this just don't get finished it seems...

There is a game that is very similar that came out a few years ago. In comparison to Death Trash it is the Fallout Tactics of Fallout 2. Its called Almost Alive. The game dev stopped updating it but its probably a good 10 hours or so of fun, if not a bit rougher around the edges compared to Death Trash. I hope they do well, I'm getting serious Hyperlight Drifter vibes with the art style. Looking forward to this.
About the referential humor; imho it works best if it refers to something really obscure. Not just a cheap reference to something which has been in everyone's eyes 10 or 20 years ago. I would deliberately look to reference really obscure or old movies. And even then I would drop a reference only once in passing.
Referential humor is meant to be an entry point to rabbit holes. If you play it cheaply, you'll just have a cheap game which won't age well and will never stand on its own feet.

The world building and the combat to a degree,reminds me a lot of Hyper Light Drifter which got my initial interest and now I can't wait for the full game

i was on the verge of getting wasteland 3 but i heard its a crapshoot with its bug situation so im glad this thing came back up in my sights to give me my post apocalyptic fix if it comes out anytime soon. ;-;
Pretty sure it's been fixed up rather well these days? At least that's what I heard in the last couple' months whenever that game came up in some threads online. Maybe just give it a shot over on GamePass or smth~
@@8lacKhawKtheRIPPER i visit the wasteland3 subreddit every now and then since i decided i want the game and people have been having issues on console. im talking save wipes and other bugs. its no cyberpunk dumpster fire but id rather not take the risk. any way i don't think death trash is coming out anytime soon either so ill probably end up getting W3 before this game anyway lol.
