In a world where every auto youtuber swaps out their cars every 5-6 months, Its refreshing to see someone keep one around for 7-8 years and watch it progress throughout the years
Most of the youtubers I watch have one vehicle that they will never sell and maybe two others that are their dailys but other Than that they bye a car to giveaway after they modify it
@@Milkman69ner I can tell he isnt and wont, seeing how he moved to GA instead of CA (where most car youtubers seem to go) I respect him a lot for staying east coast.
With the AC, see if the compressor is turning when you have it switched on. If it does turn on and you are confident the right amount of refrigerant is in it, it will probably be expensive. Hopefully it's just a relay or pressure switch. It's hard to diagnose without seeing the high and low pressures or using a multimeter.
yeah, with the AC running, check the lines under the hood where they go into the firewall. One should be cold. If it's not cold, then you check the compressor, sensors/switches to make sure it's even getting signal to engage. If the one is cold, then it's probably the blend door.
Had quite a few Ford's come through my shop with a blocked orifice tube this year around 100k miles. Other cars too not just Ford's but they are very common in my area of Pa.
Finally obtained my first Mustang this past March. 13 Mustang Gt....I'm 48 now and have loved, and wanted one, the Mustang since around 10 years old. Purchased it with 38.4 K miles, completely stock, and have been busy ever since kinda making it my own. First thing I ordered the night I got it home was a red Ford Racing shift knob/ball. Other things have been.....cleaning up and repainting calipers and rotors, upgrading struts and shocks, rear springs, panhard bar, CAI, and most recent...Stainless Works LT's/X-pipe and Ford Performance Sport mufflers. Have done all the work myself and am loving life and this car. 2014 was the cutoff year for model when I started looking and I couldn't be happier with my 13. It is an absolute joy to drive 😁. Love your videos and long live Smurff, glad it's back on the road.

Its great to see you've kept Smurf for so long and have had so many good experiences despite having second thoughts about keeping the car. One thing I've found is that new and more drastic mods, whether they be appearance or performance, can make you fall in love with the same car all over again. Much like your yellow new edge, I remember going to the dealer with my dad to pick up our brand new Candy Apple Red 2008 GT when I was 12 years old. In July 2013, just a month before I turned 18, I suddenly lost my dad to a stroke. 6 years later, that car is still in the family. I will keep that car forever in his memory. A year ago, I started autocrossing it and already have a $41,000 build list to eventually turn it into a 550WHP 6 speed road course weapon. I started driving the car in 2013 with 24,700 miles and last week I just rolled over 57k miles. Up until last spring, the car had gone completely unmodified since my dad last touched it. I was thinking of selling it, then did an appearance and handling kit overhaul and fell in love with the car all over, and kicked myself for even thinking of selling it. Every single mile in that car has been an absolute blast and I don't regret any of them. Here's to many more smiles per gallon in my forever car.

Really glad to see Smurrf back. As I’m watching this video, and listening to you describe your car, I’m very impressed that you have kept this car for so long. When I started watching your vids I drove a 1993 B swapped Civic Hatchback.. now I drive a 2016 GT Mustang 6 speed... I feel like your channel really ended up motivating me to chase my dreams and find my own smurf.
David! Check the ac clutch by turning ignition on, then turning on the AC switch. Then try to spin the engaged ac clutch in the engine bay by hand, if you can spin it then it's bad, if you can't it's likely a compressor or some other issue
Also check out maximum motorsports for some awesome suspension mods, those guys know mustangs. I have some of their parts on my car and I'm going to add more soon!
I would love to see this car evolving eternally. All the other channels jump from project to project, and although you've got other projects, it's nice to see you actually care for this car. You can still do a lot to it. Better suspension, brakes, seats, etc!
Bro, I'm glad you have kept you car all this time and still have the love you have for it.. My dads Grabber Blue got repod a month after he passed away from Cancer. He barely even got to drive it at all. I planned to keep it through the probate process but they screwed me out of it by report. I was SO upset that Sunday morning when the wrecker showed up at my house. I was going to make it a rolling memorial to my dad who was an officer for 40 years. His had the black stripe up the middle and was only a V6, but a swap would have come or at least a twin turbskies setup. I enjoyed it for about a month while I had it. Appreciated all the complimentsi would get everywhere I went in it. I will replace it one day again and have my own loving journey with it, too.
This car is how I found your channel. It's good to see a tastefully done Stang. Especially by RUclipsr standards of r35s and golfs or Vettes pending country. It's so cool seeing how powerful it is but way more reliable than most other project cars
I bought my 14 premium 5.0 in April (after following you for about 3 years) within 4 months I’ve put an intake, full exhaust, new wheels, and some odds and end exterior mods. I love this car more and more everyday and still get chills knowing it’s mine. Just keep praying the MT-82 doesn’t blow up on me lol
He said it's blowing air just not cold air.. Bad fuse or relay it wouldn't blow at all .. It would be completely dead.. Its either his compressor , his blend door , or he's got a cracked a/c line somewhere and all the refrigerant leeked out..
I have a 2006 S2000 approaching 180,000 miles and it is still going strong. No major mechanical issues (knock on wood) so far. I don’t get into it everywhere I go but when I do she still has it.
Proud of you and the Smurf. Keep that car for years, it gets even better!! Trust me. I've had only 6 Mustangs in 54 years..... Two of them now. The Old man in Texas
I bought a 2019 GT back in March and have 4700 miles on it so far... I will no doubt be pushing well into the 100k range because I absolutely love it. I traded in a 2007 GT that I had for almost 3 years, which was a ton of fun and had a super loud exhaust on it like Smurf did, but it's pretty crazy how much better these new cars are. My new one is going to be my baby for years to come and I can't wait to live with it for a long long time.
Most likely it is a leak. It is very common once the care has 5+ years of use. Constant heat-cold temperature cycles can turn the AC lines into really cracked faulty components.
Been watching you since you first picked this car up, David. I remember meeting you at the Cato meet in Richmond before you moved to GA and talking to you at Springfest and Mustang Week this past year. It's awesome seeing how far you've gone and goes to show what perseverance can do. You're definitely one of my favorite automotive youtubers out there. Keep up the great work and making the VA crowd proud!
If your floating then the shocks are done. Been there and done that with the same springs and shock set up. Switched to steeda shocks and it now feels closer to my M3
I'd be okay if you sold it honestly, I'm in the same position with one of my cars. I bought it new in 2012, built it up and have driven it in its current state for the past 3 years. I'm out of things to do to it without going full race car and part of the fun of the car hobby is actually being able to do stuff to your cars. Just don't get a super car or some other $100k+ car like every other idiot in the RUclips car world. Most of your viewers like the Mustang because they can relate to it and its attainable for the average Joe.
I have a 14 GT. Absolutely love it. I did have the same purge valve problem for a little but fixed it. I installed a boss302 intake manifold with a couple friends and we were surprised that they didnt include a longer purge valve in the installation kit! So we had to run wires all the way around the manifold and it works well now, but what a pain that was! Love my baby though. Learned manual on it and really got me started in the car community.
I have a 2014 GT Premium and have learned that gremlins of modifying a car recently... I tried a full suspension upgrade (lower control arms, sway bars, shocks and struts, lowering springs (1.5in lower) caster camber plates, and pan hard bar) and it's been 5 weeks and in still ironing out kinks. Aftermarket caster camber plates were defective and so were the STR Koni struts. Fron Sway bar end links go out fast when using a stiffer suspension so had to change those as well. Now the front sway bar stock bushing I used are squeaking. But as you said us car guys make good things worse...but we love it. Love your videos and the smurff. Glad you got it bad.
I've had my CTS- V wagon (manual) since 2012 also, and I have 118,000 on it so I've driven it about as much as you've driven Smurf. I'm also on stock magneride shocks and Eibach pro kits springs, haha. For me, deciding to keep it or sell it comes down to how much I still enjoy driving it vs how much it's costing to maintain it. It's been really solid and hasn't cost me much in terms of general wear and tear. I've had to replace the shocks once, I'm replacing the original clutch soon. Had to replace one window regulator. For me I haven't reached that tipping point yet. I think that means, for me, I'm going to keep it until it starts really falling apart. Or unless some other external factor forces me to sell, but so far so good. It's been really solid, and I still really enjoy driving it. For now, it's still completely reliable and a joy to drive; I feel like I'm going to keep it until that changes drastically.
Totally priceless! Glad to see Smurf back on the road! I have had cars and wrecked cars, it happens. That is your channel car, And so awesome to see it back on the road!!!!!! Red white and blue oval🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
This video gives me hope. My 2017 has 9k on it and I plan to keep it around as long as I can. Glad to see that it is holding up and the interior doesn't rattle like a C5 vette.
I own one too, and have been through a lot with it (AKA the Jetstang) . The Gen. 1 Coyotes are the best sounding (intoxicating) and most reliable Mustangs you can get. I've always originally wanted a foxbody 5.0, but after seeing smurff over time on your channel, I grew to love the 13-14 GT. A year ago knew I had to have one for that full send Coyote 5.0.
hey david!! two things, first i met you at import alliance and you’re the nicest human on the planet, and second, try your ac compressor fuse/relay, my brothers 350z had ac that didn’t work, he replaced the compressor, had the car charged, but when he did the relay, it started working again! hope i helped!
Glad it’s back David .my 1986 corolla twin cam has 500 thousand kilometres and still haven’t even open the engine or had two change the clutch.and yes it’s old and noisy but it’s mine and I don’t care what others think about it.i bought it while I was doing up my 1974 xb falcon gt sadly stolen a week after completion.but at least I still have the corolla
if its leaking out of the ac check the fittings on the lines. if the compressor isnt coming on check your high and low pressure switches. you can jump the switch with a paper clip and see if it kicks on the compressor. with ac on see if there is power at the compressor itself, might have just gone bad. glad to see you got the car back!
i have a 14' GT with 95k miles. Love it to death. drive it year round. its has headers high flow cats borla ataks and cobrajet manifold. Love the revs. Just bought a gt350r this month. Its night and day the difference but i still love my 14'. Gonna drive it through the winter like i have for the past few years. i wanna hit at least 250k on it before i retire it as my daily/winter car.
Ford Tempo- About 285k when I finally traded it in. Moved from Ohio to Phoenix and back with that car. Dealership used it for their local high schools fund raiser, you could smash it with a sledge hammer for a few bucks, and the grand finale - started it up with no oil, pegged the gas pedal and everyone could guess how long it would run. Happy to say, that it ran for over 9 minutes bouncing off the rev limit with no oil.
My 2012 Boss with 40000 miles had a clicking sound at start up when I turned it on and hot air blew out, Ford said it was one of the actuators ( 3 total under the dash board). They fixed it. Then at around 48000 miles the ac compressor clutch went out (the rubber wore out). Replaced and had the ac pro charge put in and has been working ( now have 760000 miles) . Great review
For the AC. First, check the lines, the AC line on my Fiesta ST burst and sprayed fluid all over the place, so just look for any holes in the AC lines. Next would be the compressor. Make sure it's working fine. Another thing that could cause it, is a fuse that controls the AC.
Great video review of Smurf, Dave. In my opinion, I think you finish the repairs and auction it off. Then you upgrade to a new Blue (what else) Mustang GT350. It always awesome to start a new journey with your sponsors and new RTR add ons.
David, for your ac, check the blend door actuator. My 2010 blew out air but not cold air, I replaced one of the blend door actuators, and problem solved. It’s located behind the radio but you can access them by removing the glovebox. Hope this helps! -David
You may have charged it but the system might be leaking. Recharge with dye and look for leaks if you haven't done so. Hope you get it fixed soon cuz this southern heat is BRUTAL!!! Good luck and glad to see SMURFF back up and running.
Check if the clutch isnt seized, then check the actual level of the freon with a gauge, you could have a cracked line or blown gasket on the high pressure or low pressure line, what you should really do it get freon with UV dye and run the air until it gets warm, then take a black light to the engine bay and track down your leak if there is one. That's what I'd suspect really. Good luck tho bro, I'm happy to see Smurf up and running!
I'd love to see you keep smurf as long as possible and possibly just update it over time, maybe BC coils (leave same ride height) but get rid of the stock struts. Maybe build up the rear end to keep it mechanically sound and be able to launch from a dig with some upgraded axels and diff. I'm always going to be a fan of the channel and your future projects but would be nice to see smurf always in your hands and like I said slowly fix and upgrade some of the weaknesses. Keep up the great content David! Also as a detailer for 10 years you're products are fantastic👊
If you’re sure you have the correct amount of refrigerant, and confirm that the clutch is engaging on the compressor, it may be a blend door actuator. Most cars have 3-5 depending on how many zones you have. You’ll have a hot/cold for each zone, a fan switch, one for position (feet, vent, defrost, etc), and one for Max/Recirc.
When I had problems with my A/C back in the day, I went to a few places and they fixed some leaks but still no cold air. What finally worked was going to an auto electric place and they changed the expansion valve which seems to be accessed from the dash, and it fixed the A/C.

@@good_roads is it matt farah's million mile magic carpet?!?
I'm glad the Mustang is back 👏👏👏👏👏
I would love to see this car evolving eternally. All the other channels jump from project to project, and although you've got other projects, it's nice to see you actually care for this car. You can still do a lot to it. Better suspension, brakes, seats, etc!
You could never get rid of Smurf David Smurf made the channel.
Keep it and keep building it.
TR6060 swap. Built engine. TWIN TURBO
This car is how I found your channel. It's good to see a tastefully done Stang. Especially by RUclipsr standards of r35s and golfs or Vettes pending country.
It's so cool seeing how powerful it is but way more reliable than most other project cars
Its more than likely the ac compressor ive had to change mine twice in my 2013
How much to replace? I hardly ever use my ac but just in case it happens to my 2014 🤔
@@MrChow408 cost me 1100 to have a shop do it was $1700 from Ford.
@@MrChow408 And about $400 and a fuckton of work to do it yourself. We have done it on two cars and it is not fun
Did you try replacing relay of your climate control? It's in the fuse box inside engine bay.
WoW, a mustang with 1.1 million Miles ( according to the title
Proud of you and the Smurf. Keep that car for years, it gets even better!! Trust me. I've had only 6 Mustangs in 54 years..... Two of them now. The Old man in Texas
Check your ac compressor relay assuming the compressor isnt running. I doubt theres a refrigerant leak being a newer car
You need to take Patterson car care worldwide. I’m from the UK and I’d support your brand.
Check your compressor?
Ps 1988 porsche 944 130,000 ish miles still scootin
I bought a 2019 GT back in March and have 4700 miles on it so far... I will no doubt be pushing well into the 100k range because I absolutely love it. I traded in a 2007 GT that I had for almost 3 years, which was a ton of fun and had a super loud exhaust on it like Smurf did, but it's pretty crazy how much better these new cars are. My new one is going to be my baby for years to come and I can't wait to live with it for a long long time.
A) Your AC Radiator is broken
B) There's a leak somewhere
Most likely it is a leak. It is very common once the care has 5+ years of use. Constant heat-cold temperature cycles can turn the AC lines into really cracked faulty components.
@@bountzee Yep. Had the same problem on my daily.
Stefan Winter I’ve had the same problem but you’ve gotta be a special kinda dumb if you don’t smell or see it leaking out.
Damn mine went out on my 13. But mine was just refrigerant. Check all fuses and possibly compressor gave up
If your floating then the shocks are done. Been there and done that with the same springs and shock set up. Switched to steeda shocks and it now feels closer to my M3
Nice to see you still have the Smurf! If you upgrade go with the GT350 😎
Glad to see you and Smurf reunited. Just seeing you so happy to have Smurf back puts a smile on my face. Enjoy.
You take a great care of your car give yourself some credit.
You think you can put a gt350 transmission on it, or a tremec trans in general.
They have Tremacs in them stock
Aidan Barrett no
I have a 2014 GT Premium and have learned that gremlins of modifying a car recently...
Glad you got it bad.
i love the blue car but i would love a gt500 even more.. those cars are fucking amazing
Damn first time I've seen a video of his with under 1000 views lmao
I love my 2013 !! I have 90k on mine! Had to replace the clutch at 85,000 and did the McLEOD Twin Disc setup too. Love it and will NEVER SELL IT!!
My 2002 Mustang GT has only 108k. Damn you drive alot.
That's super low miles for a 2002! Rock on!! 🤙🏼
Totally priceless! Glad to see Smurf back on the road! I have had cars and wrecked cars, it happens. That is your channel car, And so awesome to see it back on the road!!!!!! Red white and blue oval🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
Time for a motor refresh??? 110k miles...id do a motor refresh. It will pay off in the long run. Maybe do rods and pistons 🤔.. more boost = 900whp
I'd personally prefer around 600whp it gets to a point we're yeah you can have alot of fun but it's just not as enjoyable to daily drive
Check to make sure the AC compressor clutch kicks in when you press the AC button
Damn, you've had your mustang for 7 years and only has 110k miles.. ive had mine for a year and a half and it already has 70k🤦🏽♂️
Might wanna invest in a beater and drive the stang less chief
Im talkin about my daily, my 2015 F150, but my Mustang is old and has 200k miles, ive only put 12k on that one
My 2013 5.0 has 3,076 miles. Still has that new car smell. Only mod so far is a Hurst shifter.
@@rrracewalker duuuuuude i want that car so baaaddd... i told myself im buying it next year😂
Thom Holloway homie drive your car. Doing yourself no good letting it sit
This video gives me hope. My 2017 has 9k on it and I plan to keep it around as long as I can. Glad to see that it is holding up and the interior doesn't rattle like a C5 vette.
I wish I had the opportunity to just meet you once
Ya i tried all of the stuff and David i gotta stay it's amazing and didn't think it was gonna be that good. You got a customer for life!!
How many hours of v8 have your heard in your life David 😂😱
Just with his car alone, if he has averaged 35mph in it the whole time he has owned it, then just shy of 3200 hours of hearing a V8 rumble.
Plus the 2v mustang
I own one too, and have been through a lot with it (AKA the Jetstang) . The Gen. 1 Coyotes are the best sounding (intoxicating) and most reliable Mustangs you can get. I've always originally wanted a foxbody 5.0, but after seeing smurff over time on your channel, I grew to love the 13-14 GT. A year ago knew I had to have one for that full send Coyote 5.0.
3rd hour of this video being released and it still says '110,0000' miles.
hey david!! two things, first i met you at import alliance and you’re the nicest human on the planet, and second, try your ac compressor fuse/relay, my brothers 350z had ac that didn’t work, he replaced the compressor, had the car charged, but when he did the relay, it started working again! hope i helped!
Your relationship with blue makes my heart happy
Glad it’s back David .my 1986 corolla twin cam has 500 thousand kilometres and still haven’t even open the engine or had two change the clutch.and yes it’s old and noisy but it’s mine and I don’t care what others think about it.i bought it while I was doing up my 1974 xb falcon gt sadly stolen a week after completion.but at least I still have the corolla
glad you showed me your car cleaning products
if its leaking out of the ac check the fittings on the lines. if the compressor isnt coming on check your high and low pressure switches. you can jump the switch with a paper clip and see if it kicks on the compressor. with ac on see if there is power at the compressor itself, might have just gone bad. glad to see you got the car back!
i got a 2012 mustang with 185k miles on it. as long as you take care of it it’ll run forever! great cars
I’ve got a Paxton 2014, making 638rwhp. Clutch is going out but beyond that, not a single problem!
i have a 14' GT with 95k miles.
Every journey has a begining and an end. Dont be afraid of starting a new one bud. We'll be here.
Had my 5.0 for a year and a half now and I have no complaints. Not to mention these engines love boost.
I'm sitting at 101k with mine and I don't plan on stopping. Love this car!
Yeah it’s worth keeping. I have a 1987 Monte Carlo LS who’s miles have turned over already and still going strong.
Glad to see smurf back on the road! The AC it could be either the compressor or the condenser.
You’ve definitely inspired me to get into youtubing about cars, man. Your videos get automatic likes from me
damn.. my 2011 GT is under 30 k miles, keep it bro, you have history with this car.
