Dolores can’t keep a secret either; she had to talk to someone about it and her brother makes sense to talk to. If they tried to tell an adult, they could have been brushed a side and taught not to mention it again.

Actually, Delores shows incredible restraint throughout the movie. Only the part about Mirabel finding the last prophecy and might destroy the magic was too big for her to keep it from her family. Both sides of the family are pretty insular. And I just watched it again, Delores sang "I knew he never left, I heard him every day." There's no see at the beginning of that line. She is bragging to her kid brother, not reminding him of what she told him. Seriously though, Delores gets a bad rap for revealing what she heard from Mirabel and her dad but that's because it is an apocalyptic revelation, but she also had to be "perfect" for Abuella like Lusia and Isabella. I believe when she was younger and just experiencing her gift for the first time, she heard a lot of things and would share them with Abuella and the rest of her family, but Abuella didn't want her to be a gossip, so she learned to keep most things to herself. Almost all of the times we see her use her power, it is to pass information from Abuella or learn something Abuella wanted to know. By only using her power when Grandma wants, she makes sure she stays in the perfect column with Isabella, Lusia, and Julietta.

I always thought Camilo just morphed into a version of Bruno he remembered from when he was a child. He says Bruno was seven feet and has a menacing, evil look which is not true but to a child at the time, it probably was.
Bruno left as an adult so his features didn’t change that drastically from when he left and there was no way to know if Bruno didn’t already have rats as pets or friends before he “disappeared” but it’s possible since he seemed lonely. Knowing the rats beforehand was probably how he discovered the holes in the walls to runaway to

You are forgetting something about Casita. Julietta doesn't put things away. Casita does that. With a multigenerational family in a big house and her healing duties (which she conducts in the town square, not out of her house), I don't think she is like a modern chef who knows where everything is. Her reaction to seeing Bruno was genuine in the final song. I think only Delores knew and she didn't tell anyone else because her family cuts you off if you start talking about Bruno. Camilo is the town clown. His power is to delight others with his impersonations, like he did with his dad. So his day is spent boosting morale and delighting the townfolk. So he probably talks to the most people and gotten his impression of Bruno from their descriptions. I think if Julietta did know, she would leave food out for him, because she is so kind but I don't think she knew. So Bruno had to sneak it.

I think Julietta the healing cook knew. She would have had to. Any cook worth their salt knows exactly how much food to make to feed everyone and how much of each ingredient they need. Cooking (especially on a large scale) takes planning and preparation. If she didn’t know about Bruno being at the casita there would probably not have been food enough for him (a good cook never waists food if they can help it.) so it stands to reason that she intentionally left that food out for him. As in, Bruno wasn't aware she knew, but there always managed to be an extra serving of everything she made sitting around for him to have. Camilo's transformation into Bruno has two details that indicate it's turned from a past memory of Bruno:
    1) Camilo's Bruno has black hair, rather than the sightly greying hair; and
    2) the eyes are green-Bruno's eyes only turn green when he is delivering a prophecy. They are normally brown.

The way Camilo gestures after Dolores says "I knew he never left, I heard him everyday" makes me think Camilo didn't know. It seemed like a "why the heck didn't you say anything Dolores" gesture and facial expression.
However, I agree that Julieta would have noticed bits of food going missing over time. Plus when Bruno appeared at the end, Pepa was clearly shocked, while Julieta looked more relieved than shocked imo.
That plus how she never had a part in "we don't talk about Bruno" always made me think she was probably more empathetic to her brother over the years than some of the other relatives were. So she probably understood why he was hiding out and, considering it involved her daughter Mirabel, kept quiet, as she knew Abuela would push Mirabel away like she pushed Bruno away.

If you think abt it, the song itself mostly frames Bruno in a negative light, except for one person, Julieta's daughter Isabella.
All the negative association with him in the family seems to mostly come from Pepa's side, which makes sense since she still hasn't forgiven him for the wedding fiasco.
Pepa probably told Dolores & Camilo bad stories about their uncle, leading to their knowledge about him (mostly Camilo since he clearly saw him as a creepy villain). Julieta obvi didn't tell Mirabel anything abt her uncle, and Isabella & Luisa knew Bruno before he left but also didn't tell Mirabel anything about him.
Basically Julieta's side of the family didn't gossip or frame Bruno as a villain who makes bad things happen, whereas Pepa probably (accidentally) taught her kids that that's exactly who he was.

      Julieta And Camilo Were Suprised

  • @sarahsmusicalselections9845
    @sarahsmusicalselections9845 2 года назад +33

I think that Camilo had suspicions... a lot of suspicions. When you take into the fact Dolores indirectly gives secrets, speaking in present tense about her uncle, and so forth, it'd be strange if no one else had wonders about both her and Bruno. It makes sense to be cami, sense he has a "spot on" description of him in the verse.
Now, things are clearly exaggerated. I think Camilo was simply another victim of feeling like he had to spread lies about Bruno to fit in. (I also have a theory that there are three golden children, the ones with the "best" powers. Julieta, Isabela, AND Camilo, which fits in here now.) So, even if Cami has no memories and no sides picked on the subject of his rat loving uncle, why wouldn't he want to keep up a reputation, even if that included... well... going too far and dehumanizing Bruno. No one else did that, not even Pepa.
He knows Bruno makes Pepa unhappy. Félix and him are the ones to comfort her. (See how Félix just parrots her in the song? See how Camilo is also calming her after the dinner?) It checks out.
However, I think it was confirmed by the creators that ideas of Camilo shifting into animals were dropped. (Good. A shapeshifter is tricky, they shouldn't have unlimited power. See the "worth a shot" scene.) So, I don't think he directly saw Bruno, unless he went in the walls as a human, but thatd make him the new Mirabel, in which case the movie would've been made about him, but it wasn't.
That leaves it all up to wise Dolores and whatever hellish rumors passed around the town. That's what I think Camilo knows and how he feels about Bruno.
Just my own headcanons though, but I think the little evidence I have checks out :)

She's also understanding and I'm sure she would be thankful that he fled to protect her daughter from the profecy

I think Julieta's husband and Luisa at least also knew, because Julieta would have told them to make sure they helped her keep his presence a secret from Abuela, who is the person who most needed to be kept out of the loop. Julieta is probably the person that is making sure everyone else who knows keeps the secret. It is also possible, though not certain, that Dolores' hints to Mirabel were an agreed upon thing with everyone who already knew, because they'd decided it was time Mirabel knew, before she ended up finding out and telling Abuela before they could stop her.

If Julieta makes an extra plate per say, it can help get it closer to Bruno to pick up undetected.

I sadly, see this sort of thing all the time when a patriarch/matriarch shuns a family member for something like homosexuality and the other family members continue relationships with him/her in secret. Also not convinced on Julieta knowing since it was shown Camilo has changed into others to sneak extra helpings of a food. So missing food is more easily explained by this rather than her brother was literally in the walls. Julieta seemed to have no issue with Bruno and seems to kind to let him be banished like that.

Antonio was pretty calm when he did find out, and I kinda wish we had gotten a scene of them rly being introduced properly, maybe an awkward hug, etc... he just kinda shows up with his animal troop cuz the rats told him what's going on, but he and Bruno act like they weren't total strangers to each other. Camillo and Dolores make a lot of sense because in we don't talk about bruno, they were the only ones describing bruno as for isabela and pepa were telling stories and predictions bruno had for their family and them.
Julieta, however, i don't think is correct because there is just physically no way that bruno could sneak so much food through that one tiny crack. Plus, even if it was at night, how would there be any food left for bruno?

"Seven foot frame" if Camilo only ran into Bruno while on the form of a rat, it would make sense for him to not be able to properly tell how tall Bruno is
I like to think Julieta made extra food for Bruno, and if she didn't know who was stealing the food (unlikely but still) I believe she still would have made extras for the thief (she might have thought it was Camilo, since he has been seem "stealing" food in the movie....... if Camilo knew about Bruno but Julieta only knew the food was being taken by someone, Camilo could pretend it was him so Bruno wouldn't get caught.... There is also the funny possibility that neither of them knew about Bruno and every morning it was like: "Camilo, if you want extras you can just ask" "again!? I already said it wasn't me!" "Sure ☺️")

Also at the beginning Julieta told Mirabel to be careful because “my brother Bruno lost his mind in this family” which implies that in addition to knowing that he chose to hide from his family she is also aware of the psychological burdens weighing on Bruno and how that affected his mental state, so could show that she knew where he was and how he was behaving all along.

Wellllll….although Felix isn’t a blood Madrigal, he is the storyteller & the memory of the family. In “we don’t talk about bruno”, Pepa has to assert herself to sing about her own wedding day because Felix can’t help but interject. In a deleted scene when Felix, Augustine & Mirabel are assigned to clean for Antonio’s party because they don’t have gifts, Felix is the one who tells Mirabel what happened to make Bruno leave (but he was named Oscar in that scene!). Camillo is slightly older than Mirabel so he may have a little more memory about Bruno but not much more than Mirabel. Assuming Camillo never shapeshifted into a rat, any memory gaps would have been filled in by Felix. Pepa says “we don’t talk about Bruno BUT” then proceeds to talk about Bruno. The Pepa-Felix side of the family talks about Bruno. Just not in front of Abuela or the Julieta-Augustine side of the family. My 2 cents!

I think it's actually a joke nod to the audience when Dolores says she knew Bruno was there the whole time.
When Mirabel was looking for the problem with the magic, Dolores tells her that the rats in the wall are also worried.
    We know that:
    1) Dolores has no reason to NOT tell everyone if she knew Bruno was in the house, she seems to never have a problem answering questions or telling people what's happening. And,
2)Bruno does multiple voices and personas while he does his acting (his true gift)
And so my conclusion is Dolores had no idea at first, but when she met Bruno she realized and made the claim she knew he was there the whole time. Kinda sorta a nod to those siblings that everyone has who SAYS "I knew the whole time" just to annoy their siblings/cousins

I understand the point of a chef knowing when things are out of place or missing in the kitchen, and although Bruno could’ve come out from his hiding place and gotten things from the kitchen, let’s not forget there’s also a certain Madrigal who is quite the avid eater: Camilo. Him trying to get seconds while pretending to be Dolores is a sign. And with his mischievous personality, Julieta could come to the conclusion that Camilo is playing pranks on her just to get some food.

I think I'm pretty keen on believing both of the options. I actually had my theory about Julieta knowing about Bruno since I've watched the movie, but never thought of Camilo, but it does makes sense. If he can still transform into animals - I wouldn't say so honestly. If he was, it would be shown in the film in my opinion, and it was just a scratched idea to not mess around with the plot anymore or something. I could see the writers deciding it's just a bit much and only stick with human transformations.. BUT, if he still can, then, I think, since on the drawing, he changed into a capybara, the fact that in Bruno's vision also, a capybara was inside it watching it all, perhaps they wanted it to be a "fun fact" of sort and it actually was Camilo? Maybe he spoke with Antonio beforehand and he thought that, why not, he can listen :0.

    A lot to unpack.:
Deloris would have shared the nursery with both Isabella and Louisa. It shows that she is pretty much ignored most the time no one hears her UNLESS they want something from her. She most likely tried several times to tell people but was shushed with "we don't talk about Bruno" Or said she heard something in the walls was told it was just the rats.
Camillo: Bruno states h is true gift was acting which was the gift that Camillo got. I think he spent a lot of time with Bruno before he disappeared. He seemed surprised when Deloris said she knew he was there all the time. It is possible he spent time with him shape shifting into a rat it is also possible he was the one bringing him food.
Sister: I think she would have shared with her husband he was in the walls I don't think Phelix would have said anything even if he knew. He is very loyal to his family. Though he does have trouble hiding his emotions so it is possible she may not have told him. IF she knew Bruno did not know she knew.

Aside from Julieta, I disagree that Camilo knew anything about Bruno.
(for this, we aren't going off of/considering that Jared Bush's tweets are 100% canon)
    1. Camilo could turn into a rat. If he could turn into animals, and he did visit his uncle at some point, then he would literally have no reason to demonize him during his part in WDTAB. He describes him like a monstrous being, a cartoony boogeyman meant to fit what seems like local town taboo stories. Bruno is nice and shy, the opposite of what he sings in WDTAB. While we could bring in the argument that he was trying not to seem suspicious and follow along the town's rumors and disapproval of him like his mother, I feel as if he would be extremely guilty singing that if he has met Bruno and know that he heavily contrasts the rumors.
And, about how he remembers his uncle's appearances that well. I could bring in 2 theories of mine. One, he truly studied each and everyone's appearance precariously ever since he got his gift or perhaps even before that (Bruno left the night of Mirabel's ceremony, and Camilo is older than Mirabel by a few months, so he has his gift for a while before Bruno left). Two, he could only vaguely remember what his uncle looked like and had extra help by photographs or art of him (his gift ceremony photo, the faded depiction of him on the madrigal family tree, the depiction of him on the town mural, or maybe other photographs of him that the family disposed of after his disappearance out of guilt and hatred.)
    2. Camilo was told this by Dolores. Now, I don't deny that Dolores trusts and loves her brother very much. but she kept Bruno's whereabouts as a secret for a reason. Bruno definitely was already pushed aside or disapproved of even before his disappearance, with Dolores remembering how his gift affected him and how his reputation slowly crumbled because her family couldn't understand his prophecies. In fact if it wasn't for her zipped mouth the movie couldn't have happened. And she might've felt as if, revealing where he was living would only cause more harm than good, it was simply not the right circumstances for him to have revealed himself. What I believe Dolores believed was that, she could feel sympathy for Bruno, but at the end of the day still believed he did bring doom, even if it wasn't his intention of doing so (such as, she participated at the end of Camilo's part by waving a finger at Mirabel singing, "noooo", definitely still believes him to be a bad omen even if he didn't mean to. after all, not only is her mother Pepa but that it's a reference as to this big of a secret she's keeping, so even she is enforcing not to talk about him). Keeping himself away was what Bruno wanted and Dolores didn't betray him for it. So, back to my point, Dolores had no reason to tell anybody about Bruno since nobody asked any good of him (technically not even Mirabel since she only asked Dolores about what's happening to the magic), and if she did tell Camilo and to an extension inform him about what he is like and why she is keeping this secret, Camilo would have no reason, or rather, no motivation in the first place to actively bash him in WDTAB. rather he would've stayed in the sidelines or stayed quiet when Bruno is mentioned just like Dolores is. Her part in WDTAB was never about bashing him, she was not only dropping subtle clues as to where he is but informing Mirabel on the circumstances of the family and what his life had become because of judgment and misunderstanding.

Well, I could official say, "With great power comes great responsibility".

Dolores knows that Bruno is in the walls, obviously. Camilo and Julieta do not know that he's there.
Dolores keeping Bruno's secret for ten years while blabbering about Mirabel's vision could be the fact that she DID try to tell the adults when Bruno left, but with the adults worried and panicked about a missing family member, she was pushed to the side and told to stay out of the way. By the time she was able to get the adults attention, the rule of "Don't talk about Bruno" was in effect and every time she brought it up the adults would remind her of the rule. After multiple times of trying, she just gave up talking about it.
As far as Camilo - Are people forgetting that there is a freaking FAMILY TREE WITH BRUNO'S IMAGE on it as an adult right there in the dining room? Or what about the mural that Mirabel sings in front of during "The Family Madrigal" that has the entire family, again including Bruno, while talking to the kids in the town? That is how he knows what he looks like. As far as the other parts of his song, it could have been from rumors/stories that the town folk have said, maybe to scare kids into behaving. Bruno did kind of become the "boogeyman" of encanto through the years. The part where maybe Camilo transformed into an animal from the Art of Encanto book. That's just it, the art book is kind of like a behind the scenes documentary of what the creators where thinking about doing, not everything that they thought of made it into the final movie. Jared Bush, the director of Encanto, said in a twitter after being asked if Camilo can change into an animal that no, he can not.
With Julieta - Yes, she's the cook for the entire Encanto, but I seriously doubt that everybody in the town would get injured in the same day. I suspect that Julieta cooks more food than she needs in case of emergencies. Better to have more food that could be snacked on later (even if it didn't have a healing power behind it, not sure if the magic stayed in the food until eaten or if it dwindles out over time) than not enough food that people have to suffer while she runs back to casita to make a new batch. These extra foods would probably not have been hand counted in the way of direct numbers. Which means that Bruno could have sneaked out of the walls and grabbed two or three pieces of food without anybody being wiser. And if she did question the lost of any utensils or food, there is a perfect scapegoat to blame it on.... CAMILO. He was shown to try to sneak second helpings of food. Who's to say that he didn't get blamed a couple of times for trying to get a midnight snack. Which could also be a thing as to how he may have known about the rats if villagers didn't talk about them. Maybe Camilo when he was younger tried for a snack in the middle of the night and ran into Bruno on a food run with the rats? But then passed it off as a weird dream.
Antonio would have known Bruno was in the walls the day after his gift ceremony, which is why he showed up in the walls to offer his room to them. If i got the gift to talk to animals, you better believe sleep would be the last thing on my mind and I would talk to every animal that I could find. And obviously, the rats would have mentioned about the man in the walls.

Actually there’s some lines that Julieta says about Bruno that leads you to think that maybe she knew about him all along plus the fact that she runs the kitchen and she knows where everything is at and it would be very hard for her to not notice that food was going missing. Plus the fact that out of anybody she probably spent more time in Kaseeta than anybody else except for maybe Abuela and so she would actually know the noises and the inner workings of Casita better than almost everybody except for maybe Mirabel because Mirabel is so close to Kaseeta so in a lot of ways she would have more opportunity to catch Bruno as he’s sneaking away to get food and this that and the other. Now whether or not Bruno knew that Julieta knew he was in there might be a different conversation and it’s very clear that Bruno doesn’t think that a lot of his family knows that he’s there so the fact that this knowledge might belong to more than one person in the magical family doesn’t mean that it’s a two-way street. I think that everyone involved with the secret probably understood that Bruno couldn’t let them know that he was in there and they couldn’t let him know that they knew otherwise they might’ve lost him forever.

Bruno didn't look exactly like Camilo depicted him. They had a whole other model just for the way Camilo depicted him (called "Diablo Bruno"). "The Art of Encanto" shows a lot of art from development, which has greatly changed. Animals are not Camilo's thing, and there is no evidence at all in the film that he can change into them. I think, if he could in the finished product, they would have shown him do it at least once, when he was losing control of his powers. The closest they show is the rats on Bruno, which seem more like accessories to his Bruno costume.
When Dolores says at the end that she knew he was there and heard him every day, this is said with an elbow to Camilo, as if to say, "I told you so.", which would indicate that he didn't believe her, not that he agreed. They said somewhere in the comments on social media that Camilo's depiction of Bruno was based on his foggy memories of Bruno, from ten years before, mixed with Camilo's love for the dramatic, comparing him to a theater kid.
Julieta wouldn't have known if there was food missing, when we know just from the one full meal we see, Camilo (being the growing boy he was) was known for using tricks to try to get extra food. I'm sure, if there was food swiped, she would have probably assumed that it was just Camilo. You're also ignoring Julieta's expression when Bruno appears at the end, which is one of shock and overwhelming relief at seeing her brother again, which she wouldn't have had if she'd known all along that he was there and fine.
The only person who seems to not be surprised and overjoyed at seeing him is Dolores. Dolores didn't keep it a secret. She obviously had mentioned it to Camilo and tried to tell Mirabel in "We Don't Talk About Bruno.". Besides that, if Julieta knew that her little brother was hiding in the walls of Casita, don't you think she would have said something when the house collapsed, rather than only looking for Mirabel? I'm sorry, but none of this flies.

  • @Crow_Smith

"Dolores could keep a secret!" ... except she tells Mirabel in "We Don't Talk About Bruno" that she can hear him. Sure it's not super specific and all but she clearly mentions she can hear him. She even hints at it with the "Rats in the walls".
Plus the only reason I don't think Camilo or Julieta knew are their reactions to him at the end. Because when Dolores says "I knew he never left, I heard him every day" he looks at her like "what? and you told no one!? seriously?!" and Julieta looks just as stunned as Pepa.
Sure - those two reactions could be an act, but Julieta doesn't seem the type to fake her emotions - she is very heart on her sleeve. Not afraid to look worried when her husband doesn't - and she even is willing to repeatedly talk to her mother about laying off of Mirabel despite how hard she's being [which also suggests Abuela was less harsh on her kids than she is with the grandkids].
Also, while yes, Camilo was unlikely to see his uncle in those 10 years - the flash back to Mirabel's day shows Bruno looking no different than he does now and Camilo's version was exaggerated [I mean come on Bruno is literally shorter than his sisters, and Camilo says he's seven feet tall]. Plus he has the door to go off of for sure, plus I'm sure he's done the impression more than once and likely gotten tips. Plus we don't fully know how his powers work for shape shifting, he might not need to see someone for all we know. I mean sure that makes less sense - but hey.

Or Camillo saw the mural in the town to see how bruno looked. I doubt camillo knew bruno was there. Julietta I can believe noticed the missing food and been silent

After Antonio got his gift the rats and mice told him Bruno was in the walls but the animals didn't know his name to tell him who he is, when Marabella said to not let anyone know Antonio said "I know, the rats told me" and until Bruno was revealed he didn't know his name he said "That's Bruno?"

Maybe camilo as a rat brings food to bruno all this time. And julieta is helping also by providing more food to bruno

Camilo can't turn into animals. And why does Bruno need to wait for anybody to bring him food when he can just go downstairs to the kitchen and get it himself?

All of the "deleted scene" story boards from Frozen 2 show how, in the course of making a movie, many ideas are considered and then abandoned. So the question, did anyone actually see Camilo change into anything other than another human in the finished movie is valid.
Once Isabella started experimenting, she found that she could create plants she had never actually seen before. It stands to reason that Camilo could take on the appearance of someone he hasn't seen in years, especially since he didn't seem to be putting much thought into his changes.
If Camilo had actually seen Bruno hiding in the Casita, he would have either told Abuela so she could send men with machetes after him or presented him as a sympathetic character in "We don't talk about Bruno."
The way Dolores whacked Camilo in the arm and said, "I told you he never went away," makes it clear that they had argued about it a lot, that her never took her seriously.

Why is this video ignoring the fact that there is a picture of Bruno in town, together with the rest of the family? Also, his face is literally on his door! Why wouldn't the kids know how he looked?
Dolores is shown as someone who can't keep a secret. The moment she hears Mirabelle and her dad, they act as though it's obvious she'll tell, meaning she's known to not keep secrets. That's logical considering her gift.

Antonio did know because when he comes into the walls and sees Bruno he said, "The rats told me everything." So, he had to had known.

All the theories make sense because camilo was a child when he last saw Bruno and I don't think he could remember anything apart from his face and some of the things he did because ten years is a while back

Peppa was playing the long game. She wanted the magic to die so she would lose her gift without upsetting her mother. She convinced Delores to tell Mirabelle that nothing was wrong with Casita. That set the while quest to find Bruno in motion.

I think the most solid evidence is 4:48 that scene literally shows him turning into Bruno and then he makes the rats (as u can see the eyes are green) how would he know to make the rats? Unless he seen him with the rats?

Camilo could have gotten how Bruno looked from his door. The image of the family members on the doors ages with them.

Camillo's interpretation wasn't exact, the only thing right was the hair and face, and that is not even right too, and also the height he said, he probably got the information from the door and the town people, and they didn't say more in the song because it was secondary and Camillo already said it, they are not going to mention "The guy had rats with him" everytime. and Julieta's surprise is genuine when seeing him, about the food, probably Casita, because we have seen it storing the food, and given that Bruno or "Hernando" repaired the cracks, Casita would give him food, besides him being a family member

In the song "we dont talk about bruno Camelo said "seven foot FRAME" the frame that bruno uses to go in and out of the walls and inside the casita, how he know? And also when mirabel and bruno talk at the end of the talk antonio walks in and says "the rats told him everything, so when did they tell him?
