Hi from germany, I love Heilung and in this new song you have to go very deep in to nordic and germanic history, its about the reborn god of nature (the child) its about the conection to nature we are all connected to nature. Heilung considers themselves to be a tribe and their fans brothers and sisters
LOve this. I'm 50 and it hits me in the guts every time, I always get emotional. Very spiritual and visceral journey. Just perfectly balanced beautiful whole body and soul experience.
The baby, the young girl and the young woman are the same person- Anoana. When the baby is being born there are two shaman-like figures standing over the mother- are they there to confirm their predictions about the birth? The little nubs of antlers on the newborn’s head confirm it’s an unusual child. Lastly when the adult Anoana charges towards the musk ox it looks to me like she’s fully merging with nature thereby becoming her tribe’s conduit to the world around them. A sacrifice if you will. All speculation on my part but it seems to fit. The origin of the lyrics is taken from one or several ancient coins I think. Heilung are a fascinating group. And the song is as you say, beautiful.
Hi: The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination. The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money. In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages. The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages real Above the sign on the womb of the giving birth mother is probably a painted version of Ægirs Hjelm/Aegishjalmur/Ægishjálmr ("Ægir's Helmet"), which is a symbol described in the Poetic Edda as a symbol of ultimate protection, physical, mental and spiritual referred to as protection against all kinds of fear "Ægir/Ægi" means "Sea" in both dialects of Old Norse and is also the name of the personification of the sea. "Ægir's Gate", describes the eddies that drag ships to the bottom of the sea. Ægir / Ægi has often been described as an old man with a long white beard, and to see him standing still in the water was a bad omen, as he surfaced to drag people and ships to the bottom of the ocean. Ægirs Hjelm is described in the Poetic Edda in a stanza with a shape-shifting dragon, Fafner, whose blood is poisonous. The dragon guards a treasure and, with the help of Ægirs Hjelm's spell, is invincible. In The Galdrabók, the symbol is also described as something "you wear on your forehead, between your eyebrows"). In any case, this must be taken with tweezers since it may be wrong. About the solar eclipse perhaps these images would be connected with the symbol of the black sun. For the ancients, the sun was the source of life, as it provided them with heat and energy. The lack of him was just the opposite. For the ancient peoples, it seems that the periodicity and continuity of day and night made us think not only of the existence of 1 sun, but of two suns, one bright and luminous and the other black. One represented life and the other death. This could be translated as the balance between light and dark and its connection to the world of the dead and the living. In it, the dawn of the day was interpreted as the rebirth of life and its renewal. That is why eclipses were so important for all primitive and ancient cultures: When the sun disappeared in broad daylight, they predicted that eclipses would bring about great changes, or that even in the worst case, the world could come to an end. This is the original letter: [María] Athilr Rikithir Ai Eril idi Uha Ijalh Fahd Tiade Elifi An It Athilr Rikithir Ai Landawariar Año Ana Fahd Tiade Elifi An It Aelwao Ano Ana Tuwa Tuwa Tau Liu Ano Ana Tuwa Tuwa [Kai] UL FOS LAU LAL GWUL PED UL ULD AUL LEI ELw ATH RET LAE TyS Otro REI GUI AU AU LA OA SEJS ZUL AU AL HaR HaS Ka TIL AZ Ha IR EL UNOZ LEIT Una DZ GUI UI THUL UHNG Ur OI WHUG DIT La La LIH LaL Ur USK GLa Jue LAL La La La TLG Jue TiL Ur Ur Ur Ur Gel THuL So Oth LAU IA TyL LI RAI WUI IL DAI TU Han UTH A IUr EL AL Dan An ERUI AL EIZ An RA TIU An KU AK The language is proto-norse. The language that the people living in scandinavia during the migration periode spoke in.Pre-viking era. The only words of Anoana's handwriting that are known with certainty is Landawariar (Protector of the land) A hug.
Not to be pedantic, but the sun would be a “her” amongst the Northern European/Germanic people. Also, time was measured by the absence of the sun… eg, the new day starts at sundown rather than sunup, and years were counted by winters, hence the line in The Wanderer, “a man cannot have wisdom without his share of winters”.
Heilung is not only a eyeopener, its also a heart opener. Remember, that we all are brothers All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind We all descend from the one great being That was always there Before people lived and named it Before the first seed sprouted
Can I just add some points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). After the birth you see a circular path of darkness which is one of the possible destinies for the child, and it scares the mother. According to previking believes they (those born under eclipses) had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, healing (of the bird) etc The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female oriented than the religion in the later years (with viking gods like Tor and Oden... ). Also healing of the bird. They sing in a reconstructed version of the previking proto norse language.... The bracteates are the starting point for this tale, because they are one of the few "written" recordings of this language. But Sweden and Norway are also full of drawings (hällristningar = rock carvings) as memory of them. Example en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Carvings_in_Tanum Caveat: I did publish similar comments to other reactor earlier, but I do think this is important in order to appreciate it
My grandfather used to tell me legends about nature's guardians. Children born under the eclipse. He called them "hamingjur", they were shapeshifters, could change ages and turn into animals and some had healing powers, others more spiritual. By "hamingjur" did he mean the same thing as "hamnskifte"?
@@andreamuller9009 Loved to read this. The short answer is yes, but more elaborate: I don't know the language of your grandpa, but the end syllable fits old norse diur for animal (dyr in norw, djur with silent d in Swe and Tier in German) . Hamn in older swe and norw can mean appearance skin or total dress. So appearance as animal
Can definitely see...lol. Very different from anything else I have heard before. I like it very much. Wow! Thanks for introducing me to another genre and new artist!🙂❤
One of the most beautiful music I've heard in long time! I'll definitely follow Anoana from now on. Thank you Adam for introducing this great artist to us!
The name of the artist is Heiling. Anoana is the name of a single from their latest album. If you look them up, you'll see that they just started a live tour that will take them around half the world. Perhaps you are so lucky, they will be coming to a venue near you.
Their whole new album Drif is amazingly great! Anoana, roughly refers to guardian spirit. There is a short vid from Seasons of Mist where the they explain.
Thanks for sharing your reaction. Utter beauty. What talent and ability to make the listener believe it all, feel it all, and even understand it all. They’ve inspired me to research that time period and history more then I thought I knew. Who the people were what happened exactly in those ancient times, and how beautiful human connection with our world was. Sad if comparison to todays times and how we lost that (well most have)
Heilung has some beautiful pieces. They are pure magic. Thanks for reacting to them Adam! Since you like beautiful folk songs, check out Forestella's cover of Scarborough Fair. Goosebumps guaranteed. 😃
Saw them on the 28th of August. Seeing them live is such a different experience and such a spiritual experience. If anyone gets the chance, go see them, you wont be disappointed.
Hi Adam, thx for your great reaction, love your aurora reactions too ^^, Like it was said before, Heilung released their new LP, an oh boy it's a journey. The last days I was on vacation and listend to some tracks at a beach, some pieces hit meat hard first time listening to them, but not all, because I had them on shuffle, mistake, the LP is telling you Story, a journey of some sort you can feel and every single track is an episode of that journey. Today I've got home and listened to the whole LP without pausing, so great, so intense, so special, so magical and some tracks left me even speechless, or one made me cry, it was Nesso (the pain thats expressed with that track is palepable). Well Anoana is one hell of a great piece, but Asja, Nesso, Tennet are also amazing, especially if you enjoy Maria Franz vocal. Nikkal and Marduk just wow. Ja, if you have the time, give the LP a shot, or their Live concert LIFA, just for fun, it was their very first live concert ever ;)
Seeing the change in your facial expression during the lullaby part and then the hard swallow afterwards made me immediately connect with what you were feeling. I do not know what it is, but I have a strong suspicion, that there is something deep inside many of us, that we were told by society not to show and feel. Something about being vulnerable and just letting go of this outer hard shell we all need in the every day life... And whatever Heilung did, this part makes me feel that need to just be held and feel save. Your smile and little nod at Anoana bringing the bird back to life also represents exactly what I am feeling every time I watch this. Love your reaction!
This song is really beautiful, I found them recently and I fell in love with them, even tho I have heard only couple songs from them and they reminds me of Aurora also, I think that’s one reason why I really love this band aswell!✨
