1 of 1? I bought a rare 1969 Caprice with a 427 & a 4-speed! More rare than an SS 427.

- I have only ever seen one ‘69 Caprice with a 4-speed and it was a small block car and didn’t have nearly the amount of options! Truly a unicorn.
#musclecar #ss427 #barnfinds #barnfind
A three pedal Caprice with a center console and 427 yes bring it back to life.
Totally agree...
In 1969 my father ordered a new Chevy Kingswood Estate station wagon. Hidden headlights, woodgrain sides, roof rack, air, power windows, steering, brakes, air, 390 hp 427 with turbo 400. I took my test for driver license in that car. With 3.00 gears and serious weight it wasn't too impressive off the line, but at a 30 mph roll matting the gas pedal, it would downshift to low, the front would come up like a motorboat, and it would haul serious ass!
It was geared high, she had long legs. Your Dad enjoyed the power and better fuel mileage:)
That is an incredible option list, but it illustrates just how comprehensive the GM options lists were, even in 1969.
You really could get it anyway you wanted it back then
@@DezzysSpeedShop For some odd reason I hear the old Burger King jingle in my head, have it your way, have it your way.
I mean lots of cars had options lioe this. Jeep wagoneers had a.c power seats mirrors. Windows.. and were all leather..
Back in the day when you could get a car with what you want and not what they want you to pay for. Great day and good morning to you, Deezy
@johnelliott7375 not always; Mopar refused to build a Dodge Dart 4 door with a 340, never mind it and the two doors were identical underneath
What a rare beast with so many rare options. I definitely would love to follow the restoration of it.
Stay tuned my man! I gotta go grab the parts car and evaluate
Will be subbing and watching this car like a hawk ! It's these sub class Luxor models , and the options pack muscle cars are intriguing as the mainline muscle cars.
DITTO!!!
Nice find, deserves to be back on the road. A friend of mine found a 70 Caprice with 454, 400 turbo, a/c (works) that was sitting in a barn for thirty years, 70k miles, runs great after a carb kit. This car is even better with 427/4spd. Good luck with her!
My friend had a 70 impala loved that boat along with the 68 fast back impalas that another friend had
Good Luck/ prayers & Money with this Thing..😆
Best looking big car front end ever. I detailed a green 69 Caprice 427 with hideaways for a customer back in early 2000. It was rare then.
Late 60's early 70's when we were street racing in N.Y.C. a friend of mine had a 1968 Biscayne 427/ 425 with a Turbo 400 trans, It was a COPO car because all they would allow dealers to order in a Caprice (same body as Biscayne and Bel Air) was the very mild 427 with A/C ,hydraulic lifters, quadrajet.
@charliechristie2949 and for weird; a 427-4spd car triggered an insurance surcharge, if also a two door. Order up a 427-425/4spd in a four door; no surcharge since it was considered to be a family car......go figure.
@@piercehawke8021 I got a surcharge on my insurance when I bought my RoadRunner in 1969. Gave my agent the vin and the letter "J " added hundreds to my liability. That year a HEMI was a "J".......I would give my right arm to have that car today !!!
Way back in 1969, my best friend's brother ordered a '69 Biscayne with the 427/4-speed. He gave us a ride one day, needless to say the memory was burned into my brain. Take care of that ride, it's a real gem.
Good ole dayz when cars were affordable.
@@willythewave I never once said cheap, I said affordable, cars were more reliable then cars of today, they were made to last. Meaning less money spent on repairs. Now as far as price goes it was affordable for some folks, who made more yearly then the cost of this vehicle.
@@willythewave $42,000 is not a lot today especially for what people pay for hellcats and supercars today. Teenagers are making millions of dollars today.
@@nenesautoreviewsI agree cars were definitely much better back then the cars they make today minus when some would rest out back then.
@@nenesautoreviewsyea, they are like Bic lighters now. When they start giving problems, throw them away. They’re not gonna last much longer. 😮
@@nenesautoreviewsright and folks wasn't making all that much back in those days
The greatest thing I found in Phoenix was a full scrap yard dedicated to full size Chevrolet Impala's etc ...I just drove there and saw one complete..parts galore!
And on Broadway in Phoenix is/was a junkyard devoted to at least RWD Buicks
what is the name of the place?
ALL 69 bucket seat cars also had factory headrests attached to their bucket seats. I heard it was a new DOT safety mandate to mitigate neck injury
Yea these were swapped in the 80s because they weren’t ripped. I have the correct ones though.
This car has the 335/427, which was the same as a 396/325 only bigger cubes. The 390/427 would have been the largest HP 427 available with AC. What a car!! Luckily there are enough rust-free parts cars in the South that it can be brought back (frame is pretty bad), but with all the documentation, it would be a very desirable car....Rust free cars in the South were the only way I was able to restore a '68 GTX Ohio car that was a rust bucket. I would LOVE to see the restoration of this car in stages!!
The 396 in the full-size Chevy lineup was a dismal 1-year-only 265hp. They had a 300 hp 350 right underneath, ironically.
As was pointed out; the frame's rotted out on the left side only and the basic body's really decent.
It just goes to show that west coast rust is nothing compared to east coast; in general

i am a retired professional transmission rebuilder and shop owner, one day on a road test in about 1987 i stopped at a man's house to ask about a boat in his yard. i went in his garage and there sat a 68 caprice with a 427. it had automatic transmission and all the rally gauges bucket seats and was in new condition! he bought the car new. yours looks to be the same color his was. right after that i restored a 65 impala ss, wish i still had it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

1969 was a nice year for the Caprice/Impala. I like that notch in the rear window. Nice find.
Yes, wonderful roofline indeed!
.....also, that concave rear glass went for about five or six years - - always loved the look of that !
That's going to be a real rare beauty when restored. Really rare one offs and other rare cars deserve to be reborn and enjoyed.
Very rare especially with power windows but NOT locks Very cool
Man that machine is like the Frankenstein of Caprice. Congratulations, really rare car.
Such vivid memories: In 1976 I purchased my first car which was a 1969 Impala SS custom. Same exact colors as this Caprice! Had a small block with posi, but it was a perfect car for a young high schooler!
I'm into the big full-size muscle barges. What a find!!!!! Congrats!!!!
what an incredible rare car,and yes whoever ordered that went the extra mile to have what they wanted with the caprice trim.the vinyl roof does not look too bad. and that center console with the shifter sticking out haha what a gem. keep up the good videos good job
Thanks for watching! I should have another update video out tomorrow.
My father-in-law had a 68 SS 427 with the Caprice roofline. A lighter blue with black roof. When I was younger, before he was my father-in-law, I remember this car going around town (very small town). He used to use it as a police car (he was part of a volunteer sheriff’s group which everyone called ‘The Posse’).
As a young adult, now married to one of his daughters, I sought the car out. He had long ago sold it. It was in a farmers field a few miles outside of town. My last memory of that car was seeing the SS 427 badge on the right rear trunk, sitting in the high grass. I wish now I could have recovered it.
You’ve found a cool car here. Congrats!
A luxury 2-door car with 4-sp, AC, factory dual exhaust and hidden head lights in 1969 is so rare.
Don’t forget the heavy duty F41 suspension (Chevelle), the 3.31 posi 12 bolt and the power windows! This guy liked to party!

I bought a '69 Caprice 2 door HT, 350/300, 4 speed, hide away headlights, buckets and console, AM/stereo tape, A/C, hideaways, posi, vinyl roof, "wood wheel", AIR system (California car from new) from the original owner. He wanted a '70, but they weren't going to offer buckets, so the dealer found one that was ordered and the guy cancelled so he grabbed it. I kept it for 5 years and sold it to a body shop guy (it was silver and needed a repaint). It rode great and I have only seen a very small handful of 4 speed Caprices over the years, all with 350/300 engines.
MY favorite muscle cars: 1: Studebaker Avanti with the R-2 or R-3 engine. 2: '67 Grand Prix convert with 421 HO and 4 speed. 3: 70 Superbird hemi or not. 4: '73 DeThomaso Pantera and 5: Any Chrysler 300 letter car, especially with the long ram dual quads. They were the bankers hot rods.
That car is going to be a challenge to fix, but will be worth it if you do it to keep. A lot of guys get in way over their heads and end up selling it for a loss because the old lady is tired of it sitting in the yard, never being completed. I bought a lot of cars like that in Phoenix and doing A/C was up on the roof and could see all the yards around and found many an abandoned project car and waved some cash in front of the wife and ended up getting a phone call a few days later. @@DezzysSpeedShop Hey Dez could you please send me the link to that video. Thank You 🙏
That color was called Frost Green and probably the most popular that year. I remember a 69 Kingswood Estate ( Caprice trim) wagon 427 - 4 speed that sat in the showroom of Taylor Chevrolet in Rochester NY for years. The dealership closed in the late 1970's and torn down to become a grocery store, so I don't know what became of it.
I got to ride in one of these when I was in high school. My wrestling assistant coach had one of these. It was cream yellow, black interior, black vinyl top with the buckets, console and 4 speed. What a really sweet car! I thought it was cool then. But had no idea just how special it was! Back in 1970 and 1971, there were lots and lots of factory hot rods to choose from. Chevy had these cars. Ford had their 429 Cobra Jet LTD, and the Washington State Patrol had their police package 440 magnum engine equipped white Plymouth Fury with the double bubble power dome hoods on them. And believe me when I say those puppies were very fast. If you did manage to out run one, they would hunt you down and find you. Back then, the troopers knew every on in their district who had the really fast cars and knew most of them by name. My little 63 nova SS was a light snack to them. And my ‘70 Plymouth Road Runner? It was fast, but those Furies were faster, by a lot! I know that from personal experience.
The good old days!
Had a 67 same color. Grandfather bought it new, great fwy cruiser
Back in the 1980s a buddy from high school came home with one of those , not a four-speed but a 427 nevertheless . That boat could lay down some rubber and smoke up the block 😎

I love it! Classic.
Wow, score. What a find for 2023.
It’s been a good year and I’ve been trying not buy anything but man… Had to.

3. 1969 COPO Camaro
4. 1969 Mustang Boss 429

Congrats on the 69 Caprice 427 & 4 speed. Rare combo.
See you at MCACN 🤞
That’d be cool if they invited this car 😎 You have one expensive list 👏🏾
I know somebody that know somebody that may can get you an invitation to bring the Caprice to MCACN "Barn Finds"
My friend had a 69 chevy convertable, 427. 4speed. Dont remember if impala or caprice.
I drove it one night. I was the desengated drive. Drove fantastic! That was over 40 + years ago.
Good luck.
Impala if it was a convertible. The 4-speed wasn’t as rare in the Impala. The Caprice was the luxury cruiser
It's crazy that the 4sp was more than the 427 and the A/C was twice as much. For someone to option that car in that way, they wanted all the luxury options of an Impala, and they wanted to lowkey haul ass.
71 'Cuda
68 Charger
67 GT 500
67 GTO
59 El Camino
More like they wanted the luxury options of a Caprice but the muscle of an Impala. The Caprice was the upscale model. Great list btw. The ‘71 ‘Cuda is definitely top dog!
I had one jus like it but mine was a automatic car 😮
I love big cars with the “row your own” option!👍
Me too!
335hp 4speed 331 12 bolt posi was a fun family car back then
Definitely worth buying and restoring. It's all there, intact.
25 years ago I inquired about a small block with hideaways which was on its belly in the mud. I got yelled at. So I watched it sit there all this time. Just this year somebody came and drug it out of there. Hope it is saved.
Rare👍
Awesome find. By the way. The strip of land dividing the lanes on the Hi-Way is called a Median strip. I'm really surprised that there's anything left of the vinyl top.
Congratulations on an amazing find!
BEAST !!!!
Thats a sweet ride there!
Keep her stock and WOW !!!
I will but with a hotter engine rebuild 😈
Paperwork is a great and awesome bonus!
Perfect car in every way imaginable with the drivetrain and options. Love the car period.
