  • What is SFP transceiver (goo.gl/Vgh7um )? This video will introduce the SFP transceiver types and how they work. SFP transceiver module is short for the small form-factor pluggable transceiver, which is used to connect network switches and other optical components in fiber transmission. In the SFP types, 1000BASE-T RJ45 SFP transceiver and 1000BASE-SX SFP module are used for short distance transmission. For long distance transmission, 1000BASE LX/EX/ZX SFP transceivers are suggested. BiDi SFP, CWDM SFP and DWDM SFP module also can be used for long distance transmission.
    FS.com provides a series of optical transceivers including 1G SFP, 10G SFP+, 40G QSFP+, and 100G QSFP28. They are compatible with many brands like Cisco, Juniper, Arista, HP, etc. For more information about SFP transceiver modules, please visit www.fs.com/c/fiber-optic-tran...

    Is there a need for transceivers if the fiber optic cable is 30m or less?

    Great Video, thank you! What does "LC" stand for? Is it used for a multi-mode fiber standard?

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  4 года назад

      Hi, thank you for the question. LC is a type of fiber optic connector or interface. It can be terminated on the end of either the multimode fiber or single mode fiber. This article may help you know more about LC connectors: www.fiber-optic-solutions.com/lc-fiber-connector-definition.html

    I know this is a longshot but which one of these bi-directional modules will work with at&t fiber and an intel x520 nic? ( I have the cert extracted already)

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  4 года назад

      Hi, ikkuranus. Thanks for asking this question. After confirmation with our support team, I got that we only provide customized BiDi modules for Intel x520 NIC, and you can choose Intel customized on our website fs.com (you can find it by searching the product ID 37043 or 37055). Our BiDi modules can work with AT&T fiber that is terminated with an LC connector. If this reply doesn't solve your issue, you may contact our support team from our website.

    So does SFP only run in SFP ports right??? Like some switches only have RJ-45 ports, so they cant deal with SFP's right.... And then i assume all SFP ports can handle optical as well as electrical too. What about DWDM, id suppose some ports are not compatible with that, so you would need new routers/switches... Thanks

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  4 года назад

      "does SFP only run in SFP ports right?"
      In short, the answer is yes. SFP can't work with an RJ45 port. But SFP can work in an SFP or SFP+ port. You can refer to this article: www.cables-solutions.com/can-i-use-sfp-transceiver-in-sfp-plus-slot.html
      "then I assume all SFP ports can handle optical as well as electrical too."
      More accurately, it is the SFP module that does these conversions. An optical transceiver module handles both optical and electrical signals, which are done by the optoelectronic assemblies in the module. You can refer to the article for more information about the major components of an optical transceiver: community.fs.com/blog/what-are-the-main-internal-components-of-optical-transceivers.html
      Meanwhile, there are also copper SFP modules that handle only electrical signals, as have been introduced in this video.
      As for DWDM SFP, most modern switches/routers can take a common SFP module or a DWDM SFP, for example, S3900-24F4S switch (www.fs.com/products/72945.html) supports many types of SFP modules. But of course, it doesn't mean all SFP port can accept a DWDM SFP, since there are too many types of switches/routers in the market.

    Hello there, Nice video, but I just wanted to ask,
    Does the video means that sfp module can be considered as extender or signal amplifier for long range fiber optic cable?.... Thank you ver much for informative videos...

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  Год назад

      Hi, the module is just a simple optical-electrical/electrical-optical conversion device itself does not have the function of expansion and signal amplification.

    What makes a 10km SFP a 10km, and a 40km a 40km? What is the difference? Is it power tx power and receive sensitivity?

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  3 года назад

      The transmission distance of an optical module is related to the TX Optical Power and Receiver Sensitivity of the transceiver. Both of them are important parameters that affect the signal transmission distance. In addition, the limitation of loss and dispersion in optical fiber transmission will also affect the transmission distance.

    Is this something that helps make a wifi connection better?

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  Год назад

      Sorry, the optical module has little effect on improving wifi. Because the optical module is mainly used for photoelectric conversion of signals, the electrical signal of the device is converted into an optical signal at the transmitting end, and the optical signal is restored to an electrical signal at the receiving end. No direct effect on wifi.

    SFP : short for Small Form Pactor ?

    • @FS_com
      @FS_com  2 месяца назад +1

      No, "SFP" does not mean "Small Form Pactor." The correct expansion of "SFP" is "Small Form-factor Pluggable." SFP is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver module used in networking devices to provide connectivity options for fiber-optic and copper networking interfaces.

    Excellent presentation apart from the million popping and blurrping sound effects accompanying every animated graphic element as it appears on the slides. It's like trying to listen while some maniac is sat next to you with 25 feet of bubble wrap and is intent on popping every air pocket in it as close to your ear as possible and as fast as possible. This must have been produced by someone on their last day at the office just to take the piss.

      ..Probably because almost ALL SFPs are fiber optics. Anything beyond 1000 base T is either a twinax or fiber.
