The mad dog coil is an excellent well made product, the best we've used so far. The coil works superbly well on all the bands it is designed for and is very sturdy. Worked great on 80 for me too with a full 5m telescopic whip all the way down to digital modes as well! Thanks for bringing it to our attention Tim! Highly recomended indeed! Hey Tim,is it OK to use the cb 9ft whip on that coil? Also when you use the coil does it tune the whole part of the ssb portion on the band you choose or do you have to keep moving it please?? Might purchase one Friday
Hi Andy. I use a 9ft tank whip with this coil. In MY situation I have found that you CAN tune down to somewhere around 4.5 MHz with my set up with the collar AT THE VERY BOTTOM of the coil. You should be able to access 40 through 10m with a 9ft whip (I can with a 7ft whip). For 80m AT THE VERY LEAST use a 17ft whip. Even then it'll be pretty inefficient on 80 but will get you a signal out.

What’s the bandwidth on various bands ?
Are you using a tuner with it.
No tuner. 40m has 2:1 or less across most of UK allocation. 20,15,10 great SWR across phone portions.

Do you use a ground plane ?.
The ground plane in his system is the roof of his car. If you don't have any metal, you can use a wire for the ground plane.
