Another great video Gary yes asking permission when children are with the mother or Dad or family members. In the world we live in now unfortunately the days of Martin Parr and years like the 1970s and 1980s have gone its more difficult to capture families enjoying themselves.
Enjoying the videos Gary. You are right most people don't mind them shooting you. Working on my street portraits now and loving it. Unfortunately I was busy at the weekend otherwise I might have gone on the workshop.
Another good vid , not really interested in street photography as such but love your photos and chat, just ordered ya zine, maybe my mind will be changed
@@stevewestfallen4810 thank you my friend. On the Fuji 16mm (24m eq) and 23mm (35 eq) Full frames I use 24mm and 35mm For events, bands, musicians, weddings etc I may have a 50mm and an 85mm in the car but rarely use. I’ll use an 85mm for wedding ceremony only. My preference is always to get in to the distance I want to shoot. I don’t like zoom lenses. I’m lazy by nature and zoom lens will just make me lazier
When you're going out and asking permission for photos do you find it makes a difference which camera you're carrying? As in, do people take you less seriously with the GR than a real looking camera (if you know what I mean)? I went out in Guangzhou last week with the intention of only asking for photos, but it didn't go well, I think my approach was perhaps wrong and invariably I got waved away, I noticed people looking at the camera confused as though it was some kind of toy, doesn't help that I don't speak Chinese of course..
No. It makes no difference. If there is a slight difference it would be the bigger and more professional camera the easier. People trust the idea of a professional over someone sneaking with an iPhone or a small camera
Hi guy, i watch a lot of your utube vids and enjoy. the other week went online to your site to order a zine but did not manage to get order. dont know if you could help .flatcap scotsman.
@@silverfoils The question you asked makes no sense. It means you’ve not watched the video. You need to write it again. The question is suggesting I’ve said something is wrong. I never said anything is wrong in the last 245 videos I posted. Rewrite the question.
@@LASHMAR Hi. I did watch the video before commenting. At 1 min 29 secs you said '.....firstly kids. For me it's mostly a no-go really, without getting permission.' That's what I was referring to. I asked because, having asked the same question on other videos, I've yet to get a good answer as to why photographing kids is problematic. I'm just in the process of writing an article on the ethics of street photography and photographing kids forms part of it. I wasn't trolling you or trying to pick a fight. Best wishes.
I honestly don’t know why you’re not at 100k followers. You do a really good job. I enjoy every one of your videos.

Nowhere better in the UK for street photography than Blackpool. I live a couple of miles away and visit often with my camera.
