I was too junior and young when I had the chance to serve under his command when he was GOC 2 Corps. But I had a great opportunity to see him during a massive army exercise called Brass Tacks. During this exercise I saw that all army brass would avoid direct confrontation with him. He was straight forthright and meticulous in his profession. He was great soldier. I pay my respect and homage to this great soldier.

I commanded 13 Lancers in 1990, the unit mauled by 16 Poona in Barapind. The Squadron Commander who shot Aruns tank was Maj Nasir, later Brig. One noticeable feature of the background of Lt.Gen Hanut is the stark simplicity. If this is his house, I am stunned. We in Pakistan cannot relate with this.I also noticed the simplicity of the house belonging to late Gen Rawat, the father and son. That is what keeps the soldier focused.Amassing wealth, raising celebrity-like villas and owning multiple luxury vehicles is a huge distraction. The lure starts early, the damage is intense.

Thankyou for the info.Indeed, that is how truly professional soldiers ought to be.Hats-off to the late general.I found the late generals Rawat, father and son's house to present simple surroundings without the kind of grandeur we see here in Pakistan.Such military leaders leave a legacy of pride and trust in the sub- continent, which is home to widespread poverty and deprivation.I feel we can learn a lot from their examples.

Who ever made this video should have thought of the target listeners. If possible keep students of junior schools as the target , insert images of the hero, video clips real ops nad keep the generals speech appearing often to make the video instructional, motivational and authentic.

Sir I shall always respect and try to understand your view. But I think the maker has done most wonderful job by keeping the steady frame on General as he speaks in soulful voice. As you may be aware Gen Hanut Singh was lifelong celibate and retired in spiritual abode. Just looking and listening at Gen singh, this video sends vibes of calmness simplicity and what we call in India as "Tej". This is also important for younger generation how such worrier philospher saint looks likes, which we will never find any wherever else, especially in the age of Hollywood's masala (propaganda) war media that Indian kids are watching these days.

By the way these short stories on this channel are a million times better than the older TV Series PVC. They were just horrible. These ring authentic and are beautifully narrated. Thanks.

    End poem -
    There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night --
Ten to make and the match to win --
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'
The sand of the desert is sodden red, --
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; --
The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks:
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'
This is the word that year by year,
While in her place the School is set,
Every one of her sons must hear,
And none that hears it dare forget.
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame,
And falling fling to the host behind --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'
