I was too junior and young when I had the chance to serve under his command when he was GOC 2 Corps. But I had a great opportunity to see him during a massive army exercise called Brass Tacks. During this exercise I saw that all army brass would avoid direct confrontation with him. He was straight forthright and meticulous in his profession. He was great soldier. I pay my respect and homage to this great soldier.
It would be fantastic to connect and to hear you speak of your experience of the General in person. Info about him in public domain is limited and he is a figure who the people of our nation should know more about. Regards.
I never knew about this great man of valor until I read the news of his death in the dehradun daily local, then I came to know about the ashram where he was living for nearly 2-3 decades, which was close to my house.. But he was living such a simple and isolated sanyasi life that nobody knew about him. Salute u sir, u need much appreciation. Om shanti
A true soldier is always grounded, simple, down to earth,hard-core professional. For such a soul like Gen Hanut,it is understandable that he chose a life of extreme simplicity after retirement, finding pleasure and contentment as a sanyasi, carrying his pride with him, getting lost in meditation for what remained of his earthly sojourn.
Brings tears to ones eyes. Lt Gen Hanut Singh is himself an inspiration - glad to see that the indian Army had such clear thinking well spoken inspiring leaders as its officer corps!

Thankyou for the info.Indeed, that is how truly professional soldiers ought to be.Hats-off to the late general.I found the late generals Rawat, father and son's house to present simple surroundings without the kind of grandeur we see here in Pakistan.Such military leaders leave a legacy of pride and trust in the sub- continent, which is home to widespread poverty and deprivation.I feel we can learn a lot from their examples.
