To get two sections on GarageBand, go into edit mode, zoom in until it says, 'snap grid off'. Then go between in the middle between 1& 3 section so now your on 2. Then put the note down a little bit left so you can get 2 sections and there you have it.

Here's a simplification: Imagine you have a lot of electronic instruments, and a kick. The kick cannot get through the thick layers of instruments, so you have to *sidechain* to hear the kick, What it does, it it compresses the other instruments where the kick is, so you can now hear the kick.
Friendly tip, if you want to sidechain use the compressor tool, turn the ratio up and then you can choose how noticeable you want the sidechaining to be by turning the compression tool up and down
