House passes bill cutting IRS funding, no chance in Senate

- House Republicans began their tenure in the majority Monday by passing a bill that would rescind nearly $71 billion that Congress had provided the IRS, fulfilling a campaign promise even though the legislation is unlikely to advance further.
Democrats had beefed up the IRS over the next decade to help offset the cost of top health and environmental priorities they passed last year and to replenish an agency struggling to provide basic services to taxpayers and ensure fairness in tax compliance.
The money is on top of what Congress provides the IRS annually through the appropriations process and immediately became a magnet for GOP campaign ads in the fall claiming that the boost would lead to an army of IRS agents harassing hard-working Americans.
The bill to rescind the money passed the House on a party-line vote of 221-210. The Democratic-controlled Senate has vowed to ignore it.

The vast majority of this money does not go to harass low and middle income people, that certifiable, aside from technological updates the overwhelming majority of audits goes to high income earners because that’s where all the tax money that’s not being recovered is. I personally see this. They are not going to be targeting small and low income people or the average Joe or Josephine for that matter. It’s not worth their time. It’s called priority reassessments. Less than 1% of people earning under $200,000 are ever even reviewed or audited, that’s nothing. When it comes to millionaires the rate is barely over 1% and that’s where all the money is. It’s crazy the government is looking the other way for this. Nothing Productive or Financial will come from hiring 87,000 IRS auditing or filing charges against Uber, Doordash Americans working 2 to 3 jobs trying to make financial ends meet at home, when they don't have the money to pay lawyers or accountants to help with their taxes maybe owed. Force these companies to withhold a minimum 10-15% of revenue paid out to these workers instead of just hiring 87,000 new IRS Agents that will be Auditing this type of worker, running their small side business or maybe full time business to deal with say the high child care costs??? And, I did not mention the Delivery Worker and wearing out their Vehicle Delivering Food or Moving People from here to there, and not knowing how to deal with that expense later!

It will be a sweep. Dems win the White House and increase majority in the Senate and have a 50 seat majority in the House. Voters aren't buying into crazy ever again. Democrats put this in place to go after Trumps buddies and that's exactly what will happen.
This is one of those cases where one side of the government starves an agency of funds, and then complains that it can't get any work done. The IRS hasn't had the manpower or equipment to fully audit the upper echelons for years, leaving them to chase the easier returns at the bottom. Its faulty accounting on behalf of banks and major corporations (anyone else remember Enron?) that crashes the economy. We might not like it, but we lose far less paying the IRS than having our savings destroyed by recessions.
IF the ultra-rich pay the taxes they should be, then our government would not be so much in debt. However, auditing rich people's complicated tax returns, with all their deductions, is a lot harder than auditing the simple returns that poor people submit. That's why the IRS needs more money-to hire more sophisticated and experienced auditors. Biden's bill did specify that that money was to enable the IRS to audit taxes of the wealthy.

I mean, approximately 3,000 criminal prosecutions per year because of the IRS, they help collect taxes, that help are fiscal budget.
