Is there an online source that contains a directory or information to direct us to professionals that apply SMRE / ALF appliances in the west coast of the United states?
Id like to get adult palate expansion done in the US but i live quite far from any orthotropic office. what appliance is used in this process id like to ask my functional orthodontist for this treatment
How fast do you expand per week. Im a bit confused since some people say teeth based expansion only moves the teeth in the aveolar bone, Mike mew says you should semi rapidly expand in order to not tip your teeth, he also says you should not expand to slow, as you only move your teeth. Other people (young adults) say you schould expand slowly as bone movement is not as easy in adults as it is in children
maybe solid bone can grow only 0,5mm a week. But osteogenic tissue can grow 1mm a day. its fibrous tissue that later over the weeks gets replaced by bone. they do the same in leg lengthening process. Break the bone, distance it 1mm a day for a few weeks and then let it heal for 8-12 weeks. just split the suture and let new bone grow instead of trying to bent the little diminished amount of bone you have. your pallate is to small you have to grow more tissue instead of trying to bend the little amount you have
How much expansion is recommended? Is it better to over-expand and then relapse slightly if needed, or to under-expand so the tongue can do the rest of the work?
It is better to expand slowly, while using the braces as much as possible. Each case is different, but the dentist can determine how much expansion is needed in your case. Find a professional really trust and talk to them, explaining your expectations
@@TheAneane579 I don't know how it is called, but if you search in Google for "palatal expander janzen chwa" the second result (may differ) is what mine looks like lol. It's removable, very basic model
@@bruna123mp4 thanks, also how did you approach this to your orthodontist? I'm not sure they're familiar with the mewing concept and will not allow me an expander
@@TheAneane579 I think most orthodontists agree with some basic principles of mewing: like keeping the tongue in the roof of the mouth, avoiding mouth breathing, and that having more space in the mouth is healthier and better for our breathing. At least in my country (Brazil) this is common sense. The thing is: not all orthodontists will agree that just by keeping the tongue in the roof of the mouth you will be able to expand your palate. I'm sure it is possible when you're very young but it becomes difficult to do it by yourself when you're in your 20s (my case) so I chose this easy path hskskdks so I think you don't need an orthodontist that 100% agrees with mewing but if they agree with these basic principles that's enough. And it's important to talk to them through the whole process so they won't do anything you don't want :)
I'm curious to understand the fundamental difference between SMRE and SME (slow maxillary expansion) and why you presumably favour the former. Also, I have read that RME can be quite painful until the sutures separate, and was wondering if SMRE can also be painful (perhaps less so than RME, but for longer)?
Hi father John Mew discusses the difference between slow expansion vs rapid expansion and why semi rapid is best. Rapid expansion can put too much pressure on the nerves in the teeth causing damage while too slow of an expansion doesn’t activate the upper palate to grow new bone to fill in the new expanded area.
*His father. Semi rapid activates new bone growth while not damaging nerves. I believe it was 1/4 mm expansion daily is the rate. Look through John news videos. It was one of like 8 consecutive videos where he discussed expansion
@@andyoudontknowwhen i don't understand this thesis - if you expand too slow "to activate bone growth" what fills the gap then? if they say that the bone can only grow up to 0.5mm per week then it seems very controversial to assume that the bone either grows at the maximum speed of 0.5/w or doesn't grow at all. however it seems extremely natural to assume that the bone will grow whatever the amount need under its natural phisiological limitations.

Christ, 24mm of expansion is crazy
Imagine with mse

crunkuhlunkuh look for a dentofacial orthopedist in the US. It’s the same thing as orthotropics.
Can people get over expansion? Is some one is over expanded, how could the bottom jaw to align with upper over expanded jaw?

0.8 - 1mm per week
I’d you take steroids or hgh this expands bone growth though. My thinking is this could be a solution. An unorthodox one but an idea.
I think hiit exercise when long fasted boost gh so much
Can this treatment work for adults?
yes it just tales more time
Ik im a bit late maybe lol
Is the noticeable difference in 3mm expansion ?
Yes but probably only to you. I’d say 8mm and up is very noticeable
Which device do you use in adults?
I am preplexed how this is always committed

His father explained it should not be painful. Pain is causing damage. That’s why semi rapid is better than rapid
