    I like that you pay attention to 'minor' vocal details. They are important, emphasizing the lyrics, the emotion. Also stopping and going back is just fine, helping you to make the point you want to make. Very enjoyable reaction, thank you!

    • @argantyr5154
      @argantyr5154 2 года назад +12

      Exactly the stopping is only a problem if you don't go back 5 seconds or so, because when you go a little back it helps with the flow of the Song.

    This was a great reaction. You have a good ear for many of the little details that Floor puts into her performances and, crucially, *why* they're there. The large variety she uses in dynamics, vocal colour, phrasing, and vocal effects (breathiness, fry, cry, vibrato, etc) are all used to aid in storytelling and in conveying emotion. I think Floor's musicianship in deploying the huge array of things she can do in a way that works well in conveying the intention of the music is somewhat under-appreciated relative to people being awed by her vocal power and other technical gifts, so I'm always happy when I see anyone actually grasp that Floor puts every little detail into her singing with a purpose.

    I like that you appreciate Floor adding vibrato to the end of phrases. I wish opera singers could learn to do this. The operatic style of maximum vibrato all the time, on every note is very hard to listen to. A bit of subtlety and art would be appreciated. Also operatic vowel modification - don't let me get started on that.

      @@AaliyahCapili "maximum vibrato all the time, on every note is very hard to listen to".
      Absolutely second that comment. Would be great if you as a trained singer would hazard an attempt at exploring possible reasons as to why this is the case for so many people.
      One reason for me would be that max & uncontrolled vibrato may enhance the "wow-factor" (for a while) while otoh it may dampen nuanced storytelling of exactly the kind that Floor seems to have patented, which you highlighted in your wonderful reaction to this song.
      Another reason could be that most ppl experience that kind of voice, if used continuously, as simply unnatural. I have noticed this myself with channels where the host does an "operatic" welcome, singing the words with happy vibrato instead of simply talking to the listener.
      My reaction is always "cut the act, and just be yourself plz". Dunno.. maybe that is why it's common knowledge that opera is an "acquired taste"? Any other reasons perhaps? Cheers from Amsterdam!

    • @BanjoBitty
      @BanjoBitty 2 года назад +1

      I love both. I can listen to vibrato all day. Haha. But I think some people do it a lot more naturally than others. Meaning some people make it sound forced. I love deep, powerful vibrato though. When it comes to operatic vocals this is what I prefer over the lighter sounding stuff. But I also love Floor's voice very much and her variety. She has such a gorgeous tone. 💕

    @8:43 A healthy way to create grid in your voice is by putting the false cords at work. Marko has the ability to add or remove any amount of grid he desires whenever he desires. Such and awesome and beautiful reaction! I love how they start it like a ballad and then Floor puts on a high energy belting clinic! 😀😀😀Ever Dream is definitely one of my favorites! And it was very cool to hear you point out the switch to head voice at the end of the phrases in the chorus! If you want to hear one of Nightwish's most beautiful, breathtaking, and inspiring songs (and a beautiful duet between Floor and Marko) then I hope you'll check out "While Your Lips Are Still Red" Live at Wembley. It's another must have Nightwish experience. I hope you will love it as much as I do! Thank you again for sharing your love of music with us ♥♥♥

    I have been a huge fan of Houston, Adele, Gaga, Franklin, Carey, Sia, Aguilera, Warwick, Holiday, Fitzgerald, all of which are experts in their genre and beyond. With that all said, the tonality, dynamics, modulation, pace, pauses, and delivery Floor brings to music is far ahead of the greats forementioned. Her genre versatility is off the hook as well. But here's the part that she doesn't have that the others do, recognition as perhaps (without debate IMO) the finest well rounded female vocalist of our times.

    @Aaliyah Capili: If you want to hear Floor do straight operatic vocals, I have some tracks for you to react to:
    1) Shoemaker, Nightwish. This song is about Dr. Eugene Shoemaker, who died in 1997. He is the founding scientist on the idea that craters on Earth are caused by meteors and asteroids. He also helped discover the Shoemaker-Levy-9 comet. Most importantly, he is the only person to be buried on a celestial body outside of Earth, having been cremated and his urn launched to the moon's South Pole.
    2) Christmas Truce, Sabaton. Sabaton is a band that sings about military history. Floor's husband, Hannes Van Dahl, is Sabaton's drummer. Christmas Truce is about the "Christmas Truce" of World War I, in which French, German, and British troops had an impromptu cease-fire on Christmas Day. Floor supplies operatic vocals at the end.
    3) Phantom of the Opera, Beste Zangers, 2019. Beste Zangers is a Dutch TV show where different singers sing songs for each person taking part. Floor dueted with Henk Poort, who has played the Phantom in numerous shows. When the video was released in 2019, it had the most views in 24 hours of any video released that year, and to my knowledge, no video has yet broken that record.

    Floor said in an interview that the sustained high belting just above her natural range made it the hardest song for her to sing. I think your natural voice is probably around the same pitch, this would probably be uncomfortable for you to try. Lovely reaction.

      But these belts aren't above her range though. In the last section she belts many times F5 which is completely in her range. Her belting range goes up to G#5. The most difficult thing is probably how she has to belt that high phrases without getting strained.
