I genuinely thought the games were harder than I remember, I did the same thing on the switch 2 (Super , N64, super circuit, Mario kart 8, And played on emulator the rest) He sucks balls, it ain't that hard, N64 was "the hardest" one.
@melocoton99 exactly, it's honestly crazy how much he would learn not to do, win the game, then immediately forget to still do in the next race, the older ones are not easy, but they aren't as hard as he was making them out to be, I can consistently get first on most of the 64 races.

I spent ages getting 45 points in the special cup on 150cc back in the day on the first Mario Kart and I used to be addicted to the game to a point where we used the shrink easter egg and held our controllers upside down to make it harder when me and my friends where playing together. If he actually stuck to 150cc on the first game he would still be playing.

I knew he would be tilted at this. I played Mario Kart on the SNES back in the day and it took ages to get 45 points in the special cup on 150cc. So when he declared to get 1st place in everything I knew where this was headed. He even went down in difficulty and still only tied for 1st place.

little fun fact about super circuit, it's made for the GBA which has a notoriously dark screen, so the colors are cranked up... if you don't want your eyes to bleed and to get a more similar experience you should've used a filter to make it darker. Also none of these old games are made to be 16:9 many terrible resolutions by modern standards, if you're using a modern screen I highly suggest using emulation magic to make them look more like they should

As someone who has won a gold trophy in both Mushroom Cup and Flower Cup in Super Mario Kart, it was not easy, and SMK is genuinely a difficult game that takes a lot of skill to play well.

Obviously that moment is awful, but he did make it worse with game mechanics pressing A too early. I.e. you can get a boost from falling off lakitu. Similar to how there is a technique in other MKs.

I kind of knew this was going to go poorly as soon as I heard he hadn't played most of these games. A lot of the early ones, while really fun, have high skill floors that expect hours of practice before the player begins to be genuinely decent at it.
Lmao exactly. Young me used to race my own ghosts on Mario Kart super circuit and look up WR times as a benchmark. All about repetition and you find exactly when you’re supposed to jump for your drift.

@St4rdog children absolutely can finish these games, but I never really mentioned an age group. Kid or adult, you WILL need to put in hours into those older Mario Karts. They're fun games, that's why they did so well. But they're not designed to be as beginner friendly as the modern entries.
I mean, Super Mario Kart literally started development as F-Zero 2. I think it shows in the final project by just how difficult that one is.
I don't blame Ludwig for getting mad at these older titles. I'd just encourage him to put some hours into them and try the challenge again. I think he'd have fun.
100%. I was in second grade when the SNES one came out and it was the easiest one to emulate for the next 10-15 years or so. My playtime is like, 60% SNES, 10% GBA, 20% DS, 5% Wii and the rest would be Gamecube for fun.
I played Mario Kart 8 DLX and World for the first time this week and after an hour, I beat everyone who's been playing 8 since Wii U.
No wonder I stopped playing games in my late teens, shit was torture. The limited memory meant they had to mess with you to enlongate gameplay hours, even in Mario Kart.

As a millennial who grew up with Super Mario Kart, it's just a different learning curve, and naturally, controls and programming have come a LOOOOOOONG way since then. But for the time, it was a game changer, and damn it felt awesome to win each class. But i can't deny it. When I go back and try to play it again, it isn't like riding a bike, and it takes some time to get used to the controls and sensitivity again.
