Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise is a nearly perfect album, in my opinion. From front to back it’s just so polished and beautiful. Act V sounds like a true Part II to that album. The first three acts fit more into that post-hardcore envelope.

  • @Leclwrd

You mentioned that this band must be classically trained, well Casey Crescenzo has actually released a classical album called Amour & Attrition.
As for how the band records from what I understand it's really just Casey composing everything then hiring musicians to play it on the albums. For this album and the 5th I think it was the Awesome Orchestra that played. There is a band that plays live ofc, but that's just Casey singing + guitar, a second guitar player, drum, bass and keys.

    • @Theogvineofthedead

Except for his brother, the drummer. Act 1 was recorded entirely by Casey and his brother.

I came here to literally write this exact comment basically. The acts are an actaul musical with characters. Dear Hunter would probably be it's title. A 5 act story of a boy named hunter. Funny you said the end sounded like mystery because it actaully does. That subtle smile, is the smile of ms. Terri. It's a nod to the beginning of act 2 ms. Terri and ms. leading a summer smile with winter skin. Im sure you can find it and you'll noticed right away it's the composition.

That whole ending from where you said it felt uneasy until you said they brought the tone back up is all a call back to Act2 and EVERY single time they put that little piano melody into a new song I get chills and teary eyed. I love that reoccurring melody throughout the Acts.

Oh hey, I wasn't at all expecting to be mentioned at the start! What a great surprise lol. Glad I had a hand in you revisiting TDH :D I may have actually suggested A Night on the Town back on your first TDH reaction, but I don't remember for sure. Either way, it was a solid pick and I'm glad someone recommended it.
I'd totally be down to see you do full albums with this band at some point, should you choose to. Act I's a little short/prologue-y, but Acts II through V are all great, diverse, in-depth experiences. I'd love to hear your insights, and based off of your videos I've seen, I definitely think you'd at the very least enjoy them. (That's not to knock Act I btw, which I still think is quite good. It's just definitely setting the stage for what's to come.)

There are six people in the band proper, but Act IV, the album this song is from, was recorded with a full symphony orchestra. They commissioned Awesome Orchestra in Berkeley and recorded this album (and Act V!) with the full orchestra in the studio.

I'm glad I found your reactions through the Ants of the Sky video. You should absolutely go for album reactions when it comes to TDH. I'd say Acts IV and V have more of that larger sound (that actually does bring Polyphonic Spree to mind at times) than the first three acts, but the whole thing is awesome. As someone else mentioned their The Color Spectrum concept is also very intriguing and shows even more how diverse and rich their sound is.
I also second the Gazpacho recommendation. Black Lily or Gold Star could be great songs, but I'd personally go with The Walk parts 1 and 2 together.

So, between Act III and Act IV, they took a break and did some side stuff. That includes Casey writing a Symphony and having it recorded by the BRNO Philharmonic in Prague. • @bigchumbo6489
    @bigchumbo6489 4 года назад

Prior to The Dear Hunter, Casey Crescenzo was part of a post-hardcore band called The Receiving End of Sirens
He took those tendencies with him when he started The Dear Hunter
This edge on his voice is noticeable throughout Acts I-III
Acts I and II were released in the same year (2007) and Act III was release in 2009, but Act IV was released in 2015
During those six years Casey and the band worked on other, less hardcore, projects and his voice really smoothed out
While he isn't incapable of bringing out that edge when necessary (I'd suggest We've Got A Score To Settle off the Red EP from their 2011 Color Spectrum project as a prime example of this) you won't find much of that on Acts IV and V
These two parts take on a much more theatrical and classical style in presentation and instrumentation
Just so you know what to expect when going into these albums
