I have a late 2013 27" iMac, & I've been trying to buy a replacement for several years now. With all the new chips coming out in the last several years, & all the stalled or arrested development of the different models, I've haven't been able to pull the trigger. I haven't been able to identify a compelling enough combination of the latest & not soon-to-be obsolete, computer combined with a screen size I can afford. I have no idea what Apple is doing. They seem to be lost.
iPad M4 Pro, fully loaded, is not Pro, the biggest reason is the file structure that prevents Pro App from working properly. I know as I have one, and is still just a a glorified content device. My advice to all, by a a basic iPad unless you really, really need to draw as your core. Just my experience and humble opinion.
It'll go fan-less too, if making it smaller, and bring it inline with iPad M4. Leaving the Mac Studio to be the machine with a fan for "Pros". So that there's not a big crossover between Mac Studio buyers choosing Mac mini instead, making the product line more distinct.
So I have seen those server farm racks that use the Mac Studio. I would bet apple will make the Mini fit perfectly 2 wide in the same rack space so the farms can use both mini's and studio machines. So you could have either 1 mac studio or 2 Mac Minis in the same space. I know tons of people who use Minis as DSP servers for live audio and they have been dying for an update!

I hope, all those Thunderbolt problems finally are solved. Beginning with Mac mini M1, Mac Studio M1 max and now Mac mini m2 pro, all had problems with connecting multiple Thunderbolt SSDs. Very annoying! I spent so much money on certified cables and cases. Identical case won’t work or lose connection all of a sudden… My wishlist: 16 or 32 GB, 1TB base model. Three functioning Thunderbolt ports, Displayport at the back, two 20Gbps USB-C ports at the front, get rid of HDMI or realize with adapter. How many people really are connecting their Mac PC to a TV set?🥴

And don't even get me started on the Apple Vision headset. The price point was absurd, and the features and functionality just didn't live up to the hype. It was a major disappointment and a failure. It's time for Apple to take some real risks and push the boundaries of what's possible, rather than just playing it safe and iterating on existing products.
No matter what company you look at there comes a point where you are so big that “innovation” is no longer an option. You have a stock price to grow and stock holders to satisfy. What Apple does works, people still buy and the sales increase. The only innovation your going to get are things like the Vision pro. Even that is more of a publicity stunt than anything. The smaller Mini will pair very well with the Apple Vision Pro, I plan to buy one to replace my old Intel iMac and MacBook Pro. I know that that the AVP is too expensive for most people now but if Apple really is on track to bring out a $1,500 Apple Vision product in 2025 it will be a compelling computing environment for a lot of people. I think losing a forth USB-C/Thunderport in favor of a dedicated SD slot would be a lousy trade off for me.

Ethernet Jack?? Every post keeps commenting on the THunderbolt Ports, HDMI and Power port but nobody boldly confirms whether an ethernet jack will be available. I hope it does. And since the existing Mac Mini can upgrade to have a 10GB Ethernet jack, I presume this mac mini will still have an ethernet jack. WiFi has come a long way but I prefer that stability with an ethernet port to my router (when available).

If Apple does dramatically shrink the Mac Mini for the M4 range, I hope they rebrand it as the "Mac Nano". This new name would strongly differentiate the new Apple Silicon Mac Mini from its Intel and PowerPC predecessors, there is precedent in the iPod Nano, and "Nano" is just a cooler word than "Mini".
When connecting 2+ displays to Mac Mini, never forget to use displays with the same PPI. Apple's 27" 5K got 218 PPI. So try to use 109/110 PPI and 218 PPI.

I have two M chip MacBooks. I also have a 14-yr-old MBP w/ an onboard CD/DVD player among it's I Find myself using the old one more and more because of the player. Apple could make it 7 or 6.75 square and keep the same height, trim a little of the wasted space.
Pretty sure the cpu is efficient enough to be passively cooled, no need for fan or ventilation. Look at m4 ipad.

WiFi has come a long way but I prefer that stability with an ethernet port to my router (when available).
I have my doubts it will have a HDMI port. Instead it will have 3 USB-C ports. No doubt they will sell an HDMI adapter for 40 bucks.

If Apple does dramatically shrink the Mac Mini for the M4 range, I hope they rebrand it as the "Mac Nano". This new name would strongly differentiate the new Apple Silicon Mac Mini from its Intel and PowerPC predecessors, there is precedent in the iPod Nano, and "Nano" is just a cooler word than "Mini".
When connecting 2+ displays to Mac Mini, never forget to use displays with the same PPI. Apple's 27" 5K got 218 PPI. So try to use 109/110 PPI and 218 PPI.

Apple should really bring back airport wifi devices , it's a very very good time since the introduction of 5G and possible introduction of 6G in this decade , it's the perfect time , apple doesn't have anything in this product sector .What you guys think ?
I have two M chip MacBooks. I also have a 14-yr-old MBP w/ an onboard CD/DVD player among it's I Find myself using the old one more and more because of the player. (and yes, I bought the Apple Super drive. No comparison. And it comes with a usb 'A' plug.) As long as they're redesigning, maybe Apple could retrograde and design that back in... Just sayin'. Anybody else??

I just ordered a Mac Mini 2018 with the Core i7 Intel chip set, 32GB RAM, but only 128GB PCI SSD for $350 NIB. I did want to have both OS systems available to me by using external storage expansion hubs.
Now I’m gonna have buyers remorse if this new Mini is slated for this year.
