I know people view smash bros. as Nintendo's fighting game series (and I can understand that opinion), Killer Instinct Gold will always be the definitive Nintendo fighting game for me.
It could have been theirs, had Nintendo bought Rare before Microsoft. Microsoft hasn't been treating Rare pretty well, although they did make a new Killer Instinct for XboxOne, which I think is actually pretty good.
I still remember the day I got a 100 hit combo in the arcade version! I was playing it back in 2000 in the last arcade in my town. I was obliterating the computer. Then I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look uh p to see a guy standing there. He challenged me to a best 2 out 3. I accepted. And he added a $50 bet. I won one. He won one. Last round. He had full second life bar. Two more hits and it is game over for me. I charge in deciding to give it my all. Of course we had a crowd in the arcade. The owner turned it into an event. Hell he made alot of money that day. Anyway. I charged in. And before I knew it I heard the game announcer say ULTIMATE COMBO! I leaned against the machine as if I was exhausted from doing it myself. The guy shook my hand and congratulated me. I had never seen the guy again. I went to that arcade several more times. I was disappointed when the owner had to sell the KI 2 machine. I miss that place.
This literally is my cells ring tone. It allows me to gauge the level of “nerd” in my environment simultaneously providing me with a nostalgic head bobbing toon. Love this game and all its music and sound bits. “UULLTRAAAA COMBO”!!!

Brings back a thousand memories. Playing this as a 7/8 year old girl. My Queen was Orchid 😍😍😍😍 when I was in high school I had to write a fantasy story, and my main character was inspired by Orchid. There was something about her fire tiger 🔥
Blew out my surround system speakers as a kid cranking this so freaking loud. My dad was in the room when my two rear speakers let out smoke from the voice coils. Was it worth it in the n64 days oh yes it was. Hello childhood it was great to see ya again.
Got here because of the announcement for the 10th Anniversary update for the Xbox version...This will always be my favorite and it brings back so many good memories. I miss Rareware so much!
I hadn't heard of the 10th Anniversary update. Sounds cool! I'll look into it. The KI reboot on Xbox One is why I bought that system at launch instead of a PS4.
KI Gold is my favourite fighting game of all time, the only thing that can come close is Mortal Kombat (2011), but even so, I'd take KI Gold any day. People can say what they want but this game rocks.

I remember when my dad got me a nintendo 64 back in the 90s and this game was the game he got for it. and he hooked the colored wires up wrong and the tv was BLASTING the Killer instinct song as loud as it could go.. and this was on one of those big 65 inch tv's with huge speakers inside them lol.. the basement was shaking with this music.. Awsome memory lol

That's the first time I'm seeing someone who's uploading "Killer Instinct *Gold*" music! :) Every time I've been searching themes for this game, I only find the "Killer Instinct *2*" ones (the arcade version). I like both Killer Instict *Gold* and *2* themes, but I hate misleading titles on RUclips videos.

So, violent games such as Killer Instinct and Turok Dinosaur Hunter didn't make me violent or terrified. ;)
Where's the intro where the song goes from completely quiet to slowly building up to where it makes an anvil/explosion sound and then breaks out into the music? The intro/buildup is the best part. Otherwise it's a great OST though. Also my favorite fighting game of all time.
only recently i have played the first one, on an emulator, but i gotta say, KI kicks so much ass that even new Street Fighter games woulld be it's bitch, not only on the solidness of gameplay, but also on music, story and characters, 'nuff said
Totally! Mortal Kombat 9 is the only thing in the whole time since KI2 has been out that has even came somewhat close. The Soul Series is dying, Street Fighter sucks, Tekken sucks - I really hope KI can bring the fighting genre back.
Except for the fact that there are 2 models of the game rolling out; A free-to-play model, and a retail model. The retail model of the game is the full game while the free-to-play is more of a demo. Double Helix hasn't been the best of developers, but we've never seen them make an arcade fighter before, so give them a chance.
Check out this guy Maximillion's videos, he interviews the devs and gives his thoughts on the game (which he got to play). In short, the devs LOVE fighting games and have cannibalized the best parts from their favorites for KI. It's in pre-alpha atm, but the guy says it's really fun. Dopuble Helix arte taking the E3 Arcade cabinet with them across America so people can playtest it for themselves. Xbox One or not, KI is going to be fucking amazing. The Xbox One thing is just a really big shame.

The game looks great, but Microsoft went ahead and ruined it all by making the Game F2P with only Jago being playable and everything else being additional $2... Buying the Xbox One would be silly anyway. But fuck, i watched E3 Live and when i saw it was Killer Instinct i was like =0 and went i heard the announcer going "Ultra Comboooooo" i was os hyped! But oh well.
