- MOCK GST. This was certainly my first flight test in over 20 years and brought together the lessons I have previously received. This flight was used to identify the areas that would require improvement or retraining. The SSR (Standard stall recovery) was an area that I needed to improve upon, but that will be in the next video.
I hope these video help those that love flying in any form of aircraft.
Kit and equipment that i use for my Vlogs:
I'm flying a Quantum with a Q1 wing and using MIcroAvionics UL 100 headset.

Cor I could feel the stress. Welldone Giles. I remember doing stalls and recoveries and found them quite easy from memory. It was many years ago and I was a lot younger then:)
Sandy, you are still young at heart. Its always nerve racking being tested, but the more I was tested the more I felt comfortable.
Another great video. I really like the way you can voice your thought process as you fly the maneuvers. Look forward to the next in your series Giles.

It was actually great fun, despite the nerves, it was nice to be examined by someone that I have never flown with.
Great watch, your ability to debrief yourself is impressive. Try as I might I do forget the small details. I guess at the moment I do get a little over saturated! What a challenge!
It's been a life long process of being able to look at what could be done better, what went well and take that forward.

Hi Dan, yes it was good to just be pushed to see where the cracks where. Terry and Mark have been really good in the debriefs where I can take the learning points away.
That may not have been your best forced landing, but from my armchair it looked like you'd survive!
It was a peachy field. The short strip, as you know, is a bit short and focused the mind a little.
Looked to be a really worthwhile exercise, he worked you hard there. Solid progress. Hope you got your cup of tea.
Hello John, I certainly did and totally deserved my post flight brew. What's the old phrase, train hard fight easy, insert 'fly' for fight. I throughly enjoying the journey.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Hmm, was replying and it vanished, so you may get a couple of messages. Good to see that although he's working you hard you are enjoying it, It can only hone your skills and improve your flying, I firmly believe that you are never to old to learn a bit more.(says a 72 year old) Is there a specific objective, or is it simply Continuous Improvement to use a well used phrase? Cheers. .
@John Gathard hi John, not sure if you have been following from episode 1, I'm working towards my NPPL. As I have a lapsed PPL group A, all I have to do is pass the GST, I say 'all', like it's a minor bump. There is some gaps in my knowledge and skills ability which they have been working on and preparing me. Lots more to come with plenty of highs and lows.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Hi Giles, Ahh, I probably knew but forgot, I'm of the age where a walk upstairs leaves me wondering why. I like the way your instructor is rehearsing a wide variety of manouvres. Ensuring you can cope perhaps by muscle memory all sorts of incidents. Found the spiral dive interesting, in fact it's all interesting. I only had a hands on in a weight shift once, was quite happy until the approach for finals where it seemed to want to do everything except align with the runway. So different compared to the three axis which is what I have flown. Yet whenever I saw Microlights at an airfield (Compton Abbas - well worth a visit) they always appeared to have a great field performance. It all goes to show, how important is is to et good instruction. Cheers.
@@johngathard4717 Hi John, yes, you'll notice in a few of the up and coming videos the pressure doesn't let up. I feel really lucky to have Terry and Mark as my instructors. As you say it should be a good well found muscle memory reaction. Compton Abbas is most definitely on my list once I get me NPPL and can carry more fuel. Its just a bit too far for my Sub 70 11 litres of fuel. I've just been upstairs and still can't remember what I went for, don't worry it isn't just you ;).

There are a few more flights to come, then I just need to wait for the the GST. 😉

I really like learning new skills. The Sub 70 has been brilliant and I feel that this alternative direction is really something that has found a passion in my flying life. If that makes any sense!!

Great flight (well done), okay so you made a few small errors but the main thing you kept things safe and the go around would have been a big tick in my book, as it is much better to go around and then make safe nice landing than to force it on (On my GST I went around and selected another runway as the wind was changable, so I selected a longer runway and my examiner said that was good airmanship (tick VG)).
Thanks Algy, that's good to know and matches the comments of my instructors. It's odd that in my early videos some of the paramotor followers kept saying why did I keep going around, which frusted me. I've always been taught if the engine is running you have options. Unless I'm happy I'll go around. It's always good to get, and I look forward to your comments. Has your wife convinced you that flexwing is the way forward?😁
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Both my old instructor back in the days of learning on a Chipmunk and microlight said always plan to go around (my old instructor RAF Lightening pilot at the time would say it in RAF talk not to be published here).
I might end up sell the car I have just finished a 4 year restoration on to fund her flying and the local club instructor is try to get me to have an hour as the required hours training towards my revalidation, I think she has got him on her side.

Nice job. Good times. Reminds me of the light sport fixed-wing training. Many factors to consider. If the instructor does his/her job (and yours appears to be), the training should be tougher than the actual check ride. I'm sure you will do fine. Keep it up.
Then they have been doing a cracking job. A few more up and down flights to come... Then hopefully the real GST.
Giles, thank you for sharing! Great video as usual. Quick question about Peabee comparing to AnT sub70.
It seems that Peabee has more leg room and lower position of the bar than on AnT. Even though it is not critical but just wondering being 6 foot. It is only my observation, correct me if I am wrong. How tall are you? Thanks
Hi Sam, I can't comment too much on the Ant. The PeaBee is fine with guys who are 6 as it can be fitted with foot peg extensions.
