It’s well known that the whole Nina-Kou thing wasn’t developed until the second half of the series and a new director took over the last half. It was his idea. Issue was that you can really tell. I love Stardust, it’s one of my favorite OVAs ever made. But the Nina thing with Kou and then Gato was so out of left field with no real build up. It really drug down the last two episodes.
