In 2022 I purchased a 2015 Gibson Les Paul ES. What a great guitar this is. I have a 2019 Les Paul Standard that was my “go to” guitar for gigs. I started having lower back issues about 18 months ago. With my Les Paul Standard weighing almost 9-pounds, by the end of a 3 to 4 hour gig, my back would be hurting horribly. The LP ES has been a blessing for me. I play a lot of styles and genres throughout the night, with everything from mellow rhythms to driving solos. The LP Standard has never let me down, and neither has the LP ES. They are both exceptional guitars and fit in very nicely with how I play. I can’t understand why Gibson has discontinued production of the LP ES.
Thank you thank you for doing the Burrell with flatwounds!!!! I use the same strings on my les Paul’s, now I need one of these to add to the collection!
Recently bought one and think it's one of the most perfectly designed electric guitars made. At the very least they're the best new Gibson design in over 50 years.
yep, best since my 1950's 140 ES, lol! I do love these, as I own a goldtop P90 and the MHS lightburst. AWESOME GIBSON CLASSIC DESIGN ~ especially, if you love ES!
Appreciate your review very much. You give details that others don't. Most just play a bunch-a licks and don't explain. 15 seconds of clean jazz licks and then ON comes the overdrive pedal, which is not a true representation of what tone variations a guitar can do plugged straight in. I finally learned something about a new guitar. Thanks muchly.
I bought one of these 5 years ago in Adelaide, Aust, but mine was a natural finish. Two of the neck inlays have popped out; I was annoyed at that. I took the pickup covers off; I did not like the metal ones. I've used it for hundred of gigs around the world I still love it !!
I own two of these ~ wonderful ES Gibson guitars. Just as you point out, one of the most important features of the LP ES is the neck profile. I was truly sold due to this profile ~ at 5' 2", I prefer a thinner neck. I also love the fact it is truly hollow, as the tone of the LP ES is truly stunning. The tone these LP's produce over solid bodies is to die for. I own several Gibson ES models, as I grew up with watching my dad play along to Creedance albums on his '55 125 ES. I also have a 1953 140 ES thickbody with a cutaway, had her since I was 19, in '83. The parlor 140 ES is very close the the LP ES design ~ and why I jumped on getting the two LP's. I have one first year production LP MHS model, a lightburst. Once I had that for about 6 months, I was so taken, I added the P90 Goldtop, with the factory Bigsby. The P90 LP ES is so unique in tone, compared to the MHS tone. I cannot say enough about these LP ES models, get them while they are hot ~ Memphis plant is closing down. Thank holy God my two LP's have awesome craftsmanship ~ the flaws you point out do not exist on my models. I would have freaked to see finish flaws and such on mine ~ truly. To all out there, keep your LP ES guitars in the case after your are done playing ~ the neck will break if they drop, head's up! Very much a key point you made about the thin back of the neck headstock on these models, so ~ pay attention all you LP ES owners. . . . The necks are quite fragile, if they fall out of your guitar stand, it is most likely a broken guitar you will be picking up. This is by far, one of the most thorough reviews, which I deeply appreciate. Thank you so very much!
Interesting to see the photo showing the internal construction. There are at least two other videos on here that incorrectly state that the back or/and sides are mahogany (that grain on the back is not mahogany). I have the Epiphone version with Grover tuners and coil split pick ups; it's a great guitar for the price. It is a little heavier at 7lb; the internal construction/mahogany centre block appears to be very similar.
Great review! After spending time with this guitar, I think the neck shape is the most perfect I’ve ever felt. I have a Gibson es les paul custom. I tried top wrapping my strings and now it’s perfect!
Good review - a pity you could not have put the guitar through its jazz chops - however, the best Gibson ES Memphis Les Paul review to date on RUclips - many thanks for making and sharing the video.
Thank you and YES, I am working my Jazz chops. I love Jazz (I played alto sax too), but I am a blues/rock player when it comes to guitar, but I am working on it!
Have the goldtop with P90s, it’s stellar, by far my favorite Les Paul… little over 5 pounds makes them amazing if you don’t care for 13 pound guitars….
I'v one by myself, same colour. Superb guitar with the ecception of the tuners who are rubbish. I've replaced them with -in my opinion- the best on the market Gotoh SGV510z (ratio 22). The pickguard one siths in the way, so I removed it. In the demo I miss a bitt the jazz-sounds with the neck-pickup.
Did you finally get one? I could not just have one, as I wanted another with the P90's, got a goldtop LP ES to accompany my lightburst MHS humbucker model.
Hi great review i have recently bought ES Les Paul I noticed on my tuners they are stamped on the back with SNDELU are they original I thought they would have Gibson stamped on them .
Thank you! That chord progression is based on one of the sections in "Channel One Suite" made famous by Buddy Rich. Check out at about 2:45 for that part: ruclips.net/video/SB3mI6lMpuw/видео.html
Hey thx buddy i think i going to mount some Flat Wound on this beauty coz i love the sound in your demo of these strings they R ways smoother than the regular ones
Nice review. I would have liked to hear how the hollowbody makes the instrument sound different from a solid Les Paul. Also, I am curious at which frequencies the body reacts (feedback). I have a guitar with a similar body (but much thicker top) that resonates on the E chord (when played unplugged, strumming the chord and dempening the strings causes a natural reverb in the body of the guitar). Have you experienced this with this Les Paul?
That's a very good question. I let this guitar go years ago, so I cannot recall off the top of my head what it did. I am working on a review currently for the Gibson ES-330 and it will ring like crazy with an open G string (most of my full hollow-bodies would do this). I think it has something to do with that G string, I think it has the greatest magnet pull. Some guitars just ring like crazy acoustically, especially on an E chord, but unfortunately I did not document that with this Les Paul. If I ever get my hands on another one I will let you know! Thanks for watching.
I used Flatwoods wounds on my jaguar for a long time.my dad had the guitar before he finaly retired and sold it to me.its all he used so I guess I didn't know any better till later there was a difference in sound other than the string noise. There are still times that I want some of thar flat wounds sound.
Is it nice other than that? If it's off an entire 1/8 of inch (!?!?) I am surprised that it wasn't put through a band-saw and thrown in a locked dumpster after failing inspection.
I can fill the screw hole with a round tooth pic and some glue then redrill in the right spot. The cover plate will conceal the repair. I was not impressed when I noticed it.
What is that Gibson LOGO ????? It’s a Sticker Not Inlayed. I Know as I have seen this Before and I Passed on it because it Was a Definite Knock Off so Don’t see that You Cannot see it either and You are with the Guitar !!!!
I have the same exact guitar, when played unplugged it has very little acoustic value, not very inspiring, I actually get a bigger kick playing any of my solid body Les Pauls unplugged especially the specials, they really vibrate much better
This guitar is definitely made to be plugged in, that's for sure. You may not dig it unplugged, but it gives players an opportunity who like the "330-335" style guitars, but don't like the large body a chance to play something smaller and familiar.
@@bellezzaguitars7155 Exactly, I was looking for a 335 and came across it, knew immediately I had to have it. My favorite Gibson by far… I’ve got the goldtop with P90s, it’s super resonate, very loud unplugged… Super versatile guitar does almost everything…
You're right. I wanted to play more Jazz on the flats and I don't have those chops yet, but I should've at least played SOMETHING else on those. Thanks for the suggestion!

Excelent rewiev!! The BEST of Les Paul es!!
Thank you very much for your excellent review! This is the best review I've found on the Gibson ES Memphis Les Paul model.
Perfect review. Everything is detailed, and the playing with different strings gauge and material is spot on. Really good job!

I appreciate that, thanks!
This is the way to do a review !!!! Most thorough review I've seen of a guitar. I just bought a used Cobra Burst one from GC, hope to have it Monday.
Thank you very much for the compliments. More reviews to come. Congrats on the new ES! Hope it's a nice one for ya...feel free to post pics

Helpful review. I am considering a 2015 Gibson Les Paul ES and a 2014 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Florentine -- so this helps. Thanks.
Awesome review, man! I'm about to get the 2016 ES Les Paul, so I appreciate your thorough review. Cheers!

How cool are these ES Les Paul guitars!!!!! I am digging the ES Les Paul Custom I got a few months ago.
I have the Epi version from 1990s. Still strong. Only weakness are lame tone knobs.
Good review! Nice to see you still at it.
Thank you
I own an ES Les Paul that's a Iced Tea burst finish and it sounds wonderful
Excellent review!
Good playing, informative and thought out comments.

Does the Gibson Les Paul ES pickups have four conductor wiring options? Please advise. Thanks.
Switch to a g formula bridge saddle for better feel and tone. Love mine tho.
My favorite part of this video was when you were talking about the guitars.
Good video mate. Hope to see more soon:)

Yay for new content :)
great demo/review, really like your chanel. I also love the Simpsons.

This ant no review it’s a fuckin dissection/autopsy!!! good vid bro thanks for being so thorough!!!!!!
I’d love to get one and plug the holes with some black wood! ahahahahhahababanah but no for real I’d plug the f holes
Ha! Thanks

Gibson screwed up the truss rod cover mounting on mine, the bottom part is off center about 1/8", very obvious between the string space...
