We get an episode of Eda in her past, where she and her sister compete in a dance contest against a rival school in order to save the youth center from a greedy land developer.
It's all they can do to distract themselves from their search for the other half of that locket.

Principal Bump is such a refreshing character. A school authority figure in a kids' show whose moments of opposition to the protagonist aren't driven by some kind of insane grudge against a 13 year old or fanatical hatred of joy, but on entirely reasonable grounds of being the administrator requiring him to prioritize the school as a whole over an individual, and is open to being proven wrong. He's one of my favorite supporting characters in anything I've watched the last few years.
I'm so glad Luz used her one wish to revive him at the end of season 2. All the school episodes are just missing something after Grom gets him.

Still cant believe that Eda accidentally burned down the school while being a student and it wasn't mention in this episode.
Though I guess it technically foreshadow in the fact that she wants to relived the memory next time the school on fire. Never realize that till now.
She never burned the school she made it inside out though she did have a thing for setting stuff on fire so I see the confusion

I love Principal Bump. He comes in like a villain when he first appeared in episode 3, but it turns out he's actually a Reasonable Authority Figure who genuinely cares about his students, and is just as goofy as everybody else. He's a no-nonsense stickler for the rules, but knows when the rules need to be bent or broken. He'll be the first to jump in to protect his students but he'll also have them thrown into the Detention Pit without a shred of remorse. He's just so great.

I legit cried when principal Bump sacrificed himself to save Luz, I'm so happy he survived.

Luz’s growing strength is actually a result of being in proximity to Eda. Eda’s badassery has transmitted to Luz, and the more time Luz spends at the Owl House the more badass she gets.
I don't know I think she may have gotten some of it from her father considering his race and the real reason he's not around any more.
Loving your reactions to this show! And it's funny how Luz went from "weak nerd arms" to flinging around witches like it's nothing. Tho there are a few moments that imply that witches don't weigh much.
I mean witches weigh about the same as a duck because they're made of wood...

Eda's growing with each episode, slowly changing from someone who ran from all things emotional to embracing her maternal side. While she's not quite there yet, she's taking on more and more responsibility, becoming affectionate and caring through baby steps. It's my favorite character growth in the entire series.
Yes, Luz's muscles get character development, this is a fact that is woefully forgotten by many in the fandom. Also, notice that Bump asked Gus if he were willing to take on Luz's punishment, getting thrown out and banished from the school, and then didn't actually do it once he proved he really was willing to take responsibility. Bump is awesome and I won't hear otherwise.
And yes, Eda was LETHALLY cute when she was little.
I really appreciate how (aside from a few very minor jokes), Eda's hatred of the school system isn't portrayed as something wrong or unreasonable or as something she needs to get over. The point is never that Eda needs to be proven wrong, but instead that Luz wants to be able to draw her own conclusions, as her own person, which Eda respects.

You already know this, because it gets brought up explicitly in a later episode, but if you pay attention to the incident reports, you'll notice that she's causing mayhem in _all_ tracks. Potions was only the first one mentioned. Nicely subtle foreshadowing. 👍

Yay! Gus and Willow are both criminally underapprecated by the fandom at large, so I love seeing people who love them as much as I do. Also! More floriography! There's a blue rose at 6:45, which Eda crushes when she talks about Hexside. Blue Roses represent magic, mystery, and attaining that which is impossible. So Eda crushing the rose is a visual shorthand for schools destroying the individuality of students to fit them into cookie Cutter molds.

3:05 wow, I'm super impressed you caught this! You're probably the first reactor I've seen who has actually noticed that - as always, your attention to detail is incredible. And its a good thing too, since Mattholomule's body-enlarging magic becomes super important in season 2. Most people think that it just came out of nowhere, when it's actually pretty brilliantly foreshadowed!

Honestly I find the detention pit pretty tame compared to other things I've seen on the isles.

The girl witch in the Human Appreciation club is named Bo. She has only a few lines of dialogue in the series, but she's in the background in a LOT of scenes and seems to be cool with just about everyone.

can't wait for you to get to season 2 episode 3, "escaping expulsion 2: revenge of the detention pit", in which gus just mcfreaking dies. very dark for a disney show but surprisingly well-executed.

Mattholomule ends up being a great character. He gets such a great character arc. I really love when he starts crushing on Gus and gay panicking around him. And his attempts to ask Gus to the school dance… also we meet his brother and it totally explains his attitude here.
I loved the episode where we saw Young Eda in school. She was definitely working on building up that school record! Total chaos! But her friendship with the Detention Pit was so sweet. And Lilith was right there in the thick of it with her! (Don’t let Lilith’s current job fool you-her school record is even bigger than Eda’s!)

Luz going from weak nerd arms to super buff is such great foreshadowing of how she has been draining Ida's power and accelerating her curse.
U gotta love the end bit showing all the incidents that Eda caused. Also hopefully Gus learned a very important lesson always completely dispose of the evidence.

Still, this episode was nothing compared to the one where Eda met a charismatic student from another school who convinced her to give her all to win a competition to save the vice principal from being fired. Or the one where Willow falls in love with a golem made out of magical stones. Or that one time King just gave his opinions on various stuffed animals all episode.

The reveal at the end of season 2 that Luz did not escape and in fact had been in the detention pit the whole time and the whole series was just a simulation was pretty disappointing honestly.
Yeah, really makes me wonder how s3 is going to wrap everything up now
Also on Luz strenght, she has been delivering Eda potions for a good week or two, and they dont look like they would be light considering.
Considering she was basically a book nerd back home, she's probably getting more exercise than she's used to.
The season finale is about Eda's former teachers banding together to get revenge on her through Luz. Lilith has to choose between the covens and her sister.
I'm not quite sure why, but I really liked Mattholomule when I first watched this episode, even though he was a jerk to Gus (my fave). I think I just like gremlin characters.
Anyways, can't wait until you see Bump's glorious hair. The thing on his head is just his palisman. And, ah, yes the days before Gus and Mattholomule were a couple.

It's not much discussed, but gravity is a lot weaker on the Boiling Isles. That's why she can lift apparently heavy things, but can't necessarily move stuck levers and such. It's also why large animals can fly, in defiance of square-cube law.
As for Amity's reaction, it's not like it changes anything.

This is why I choose to believe Bump was messing with them in his first appearance rather than him being a nutcase. He's actually a really chill principle.
Anyway I've got a headcannon that since witches can levitate things they typically have less muscle density than humans so the running gag that Luz is strong is more that they're both lighter and weaker than her naturally.
Yeah, don't think Bump was _actually_ intending to vivisect Luz; I'm pretty sure he figured out right away that she was human - or at least, definitely not an abomination - and was trying to force Willow into admitting it (that's why he gave _her_ the knife rather than using it himself).

On Luz being stronger, yeah episode 1 she had trouble with a lever, but living in the Bowling Isles she is getting far more regular exercise, lifting heavy bags for Eda, etc...Witches use magic or monsters for everything but Luz has to do all the hard work herself.
Was that a Harry Potter reference? You'll enjoy the crossover episode then. As for your question she goes into the ancient magic track rather obvious really. I do like the quiet understated "You were a terrible student" at the end of this one.

Luz has gained strength in the boiling isles. I imagine it's partly the food she's been eating and all the human trash that Eda has her move around, which has increased her strength. Lol
I'm fairly sure it's both that and that witches are significantly lighter than humans, she couldn't have gone from not being able to push a lever to hauling kids around within a couple months.

This is my busiest season of work for the year and I'm so excited whenever these pop up! They're a highlight to my day for sure.
Fantastic episode. Little Eda being that adorable, of course, turns out to be vitally important to the plot when it is revealed that her extreme cuteness gave everyone she got near incurable witch diabetes, and was the cause of the rift that formed between her and Lilith.
I'm just waiting until you get to see Bump's hair. It's pretty nice.

5. Mattholomule joins a team of mercenaries who represent the opposites of Gus, Willow, Luz and Amity and this ant-team becomes regular antagonists
6. An Epic battle ends with one of the mail antagonists being pushed in to the detention pit and never seen again
7 Gus will eventually confront how he's wrong about human stuff
8 Some great characters are met in detention
9. We'll see a sports episode
10 there's an episode where Gus's illusions make every one's fears manifest
11. Eda actually missed correcting one of her old pranks. It'll escape and cause trouble
12. in an upcoming episode Willow gets tossed in dentation
13. The Principal is the thing on Bump's head NOT the man who wears it
14. While she tries a new track each next episode, Luz's frequent Snake like behavior and fascination with Griffons , the Owl theme of the show its self, Foreshadows Luz will choose Beast keeping.

I am so glad I found this channel. This was the first one I watched on your channel and then just went back to binge all of them from the beginning. You are so OBSERVANT. Some of this stuff your catching (I won't say which, since you've said no spoilers!!!) I didn't even catch until my second or third rewatch. I'm gonna go do your Gravity Falls videos now and check out the rest of your channel. Have you thought about doing Amphibia if you've not already got some up? There are a few nods to both Gravity Falls (you already caught one of them) and Amphibia in TOH (and vice-versa in Amphibia's case).

I love you reactions, and i'm not going to name numbers, but there's definately a few episodes and i'm looking forward to you seeing. Also, her weak nerd arms because stronger over the series is a thing. Some people early on think this show is about Luz becoming a witch but her real journey is from nerd to jock.

- Luz joins the Abomination Track to get close to amity, but tensions run high after they get assigned as partners on a group project that requires them working together late into the night.
- Luz joins the Bard Track because it's the easiest magic for someone without a bile sack to preform. And she ends up leading her friends in a battle of the bands against Glandus high, introducing the Boiling Isles to the power of Heavy Metal in the process.
-Luz joins the Beast Keeping Track because her mother is a veterinarian and Luz thought it would make her proud. She ends up getting into a magical accident and turning into a werewolf, which is a complete diaster because her fursona is a cat.
-Luz joins the Construction Track, and ends up using the power glyphs to boost her power. She ends up joining an underground fighting ring where she runs into amity who's doing some teenage rebellion in disguise (she has the most adorable stage name).
- Luz joins the Healing Track to try to find a cure for Eda, but things go disastrously wrong when Luz gets pulled into the orbit of a fraudster pedaling alternative medicines.
- Luz joins the Illusion Track because she finds the magic Gus can do cool and she's inspired by Eda to join the most trickster of the tracks. She tries doing the trick Gus does in this episode of having her illusions go to class instead of her so she can go on an adventure with Eda, but her Illusion becomes sapient and rebels.
- Luz joins the Oracle track because she's not sure about what her future looks like. There's an episode Eda convinces Luz to look into the future so she can win the boiling isles lottery, but Luz keeps seeing futures where Eda gets captured by the emperor's coven. Luz keeps trying to change the future and it gets all very Groundhogs Day.
- Luz joins the Plant Track to spend more time with Willow for... reasons. Luz's big school project goes sentient and hungry and... look the episode turns into one big Little Shop of Horrors reference complete with musical number.
- Luz joins the Potions Track because it was Eda's track, however Luz gets easily distracted (ADHD Queen) her potion recipes frequently end up ever so slightly wrong. During the final battle against [SPOILER] at the end of season one, her potion bottles are all mislabeled by king, so Luz has to fight not knowing what any of her poitions do, and while trying to avoid drinking the Poison Potion that got mixed up with all the cool combat ones.
Now the real question: Is one of these actually the real answer? Only time will tell.
Absolutely love the thought you put into those. I would read a collection of AUs about each and every single one of those, especially the plant track. [[ SPOILER AHEAD DON'T READ, WEE LASS ]]
My friend convinced me to watch the show because Luz was bi and had a relationship with a girl, but didn't tell me which, and so for a long time I completely missed the "right cues" I was supposed to be getting fed because I was convinced, utterly and completely, that Luz/Willow was endgame because of the way Willow was blushing around Luz in the beginning.
I seriously love the character growth shown in this series. Also, "Can she get any cuter?" ....Just wait >> lol Also, also I keep meaning to comment that I love all of yours nerdy clothes and accessories! Plus this episode has one of my favorite end credits!
If you think Luz and Amity might be cute together, just wait until you see Guz and Math in the future.
