‘Dies Irae’ (literally, Day of Wrath) is a medieval Latin poem, and one of the most famous melodies of the Gregorian Chant. In its original form, it’s a four-note melody describing Judgment Day, the Christian day when humanity will come before God to receive judgment. The song was composed by Verdi, an Italian composer. To me the tuba mirum is the song of the Rohirrim charging on the fields of Pelennor. Everything fits so well, the distant trumpets getting louder and louder, and then the spine chilling percussions of the 6000 horsemen charging... Ride for ruins and the world's ending !
It's the antiphonal offstage trumpets at 3:30 that seem to add another dimension, as if one is needed! Brass section are epic in this performance. Fond memories of playing this 25 odd years ago with the soprano soloist who had a strange technique of wobbling her head for extra vibrato. Had us in stitches.
Just saw this last night at the Kennedy Center and it is an incredible spectacle to experience. The echoing reverberations of the choir and orchestra add to the sudden jarring crescendo of the chorus, and I honestly could start to actually feel a bit of what Verdi was trying to achieve in his lyrics. I would die for Verdi‘s Requiem! It is so gorgeous and so breathtaking! I can always cry and be happy while listening the Dies irae! The Lacrimosa is also a part where you think why you are living! This Requiem should show us the meaning of life and death like all Requiem e.g. Brahms German Requiem!
MY GOODNESS!!! Two fucking amazing songs together!!! How can i even describe this!!! The Tuba Mirum is even more amazing!!!
This is not a song by the way it is a segment of a Chorale....
This truly pierces your soul like an arrow. You feel the requiem in your body. This was made in heaven.
made in heaven😳
Oh my God this is ... Divine !!! May the force be with you all. Blessings.
Alguien escucha esta obra de arte en el 2023? Yo si♥️
i'm speechles and crying, this is beyond beautiful!!!!! Viva Verdi!!

"That day of wrath..."
Even the conductors actions match
Well technically 0:04
I can guarantee everyone in the audience got goosebumps
Uno de los mayores subidones de la música clásica, si no el qué más. De haber conocido antes a Verdi, cuanto me hubiera ahorrado en copas y discotecas. Bestial!!
This is metal coming from the ages. So powerful, so inspiring. God.... what a strong piece of sheer despair and happiness
The beggining is so iconic. Such a relaxing piece.
If the skies aren't playing this for December 2020, I am not going.
Imagine it being New Year's Day and seeing 'Tutorial complete' in the sky
Thanks for jinxing us mate
Verdi's such a genius on operas. His compositions stick so well on the person listening.
My emotions go through the roof when I listen to this masterpiece. Wow! Let me take my hat off...
I meant *went*
Classical Music is Metal before electricity
Technically this isn't classical
It's romantic
MajorMlgNoob How romantic
@@timothyleow2323 Ah yes
The end of the world and the day of wrath is so romantic
@@MajorMlgNoob they mean the whole bunch; Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, general orchestral and symphonic, and yes, they are metal indeed!
Check out Verdi's Anvil Chorus. That's literally metal banging on metal. ruclips.net/video/QZN01_pAxro/видео.html
A recording simply can not do this piece justice.
"The calendar loses a precious component''
''The remaining months gather to mourn''
''The Mourners play a melody''
''While the eleventh moon quietly rises''
''The chrysanthemum withers and falls''
''To lie on the ground beside bloody scarlet eyes''
''But you will remain supreme''
''Even after losing half of your limbs''
''Enjoy the interlude''
''Search out for new allies''
''East is the direction to go''
''You will find one who awaits you''

I just watched that scene! Personally I think Lacrimosa fits it better but this is pretty cool, too.
@@standnamemercuria7079 i wrote that because music that plays on that scene is based on this piece.
@@sangreal545 oh wow, i never knew!

Uma orquestra e um coral maravilhosos! Lindo o Requiem do magistral Verdi numa execução brilhante!
i was driving really fast down a long hill.. and right across from me in the sky were these big massive dark black skies.. a thunderstorm was on its way.. and i was listening to this.. and damn that did things to me.. like the power of god would one day come crashing in on us haha idek im not that religious either but woah..
The day of judgement shall come......and this will be the score. Love Verdi . A marvellous passage.
I hope because my love of the Lord it will go hard just imagine hearing this when the angles start the trumpets on earth my goodness what fear people would have on that day this will go down to be one of the greatest piece of music ever
Inarrivabile.. da qualsiasi altro compositore ❤
