Thanks for the advise. I did the same but, LOL, I have found a better way. Multiply the amount of the 3 ingredients printed on the label by 100 and then mix is all up in one (1) larger container, preferably made from glass so you won't get the micro-plastics into your body. When you need home made LMNT, just take a teaspoon and mix it with water. There is no need to measure the ingredients into tiny cups. Usually, electrolytes come in a big container except for LMNT.

@@mEatToLive No clumping and it stays dry. I am using a previously purchased electrolyte container with that granulate pouch inside.
I think I want to switch to a glass container to prevent micro-plastics from the container in my supplement.
Also, the original formula was a bit too salty to me (may be because of the strong ground Himalayan) and reduced the salt by 20% :) Have a great day.

Bear in mind that the ingredients are different molecular weights so you'll stir your bulk mixture till hell freezes over and you still won't get the exact same proportions every time. If that's not a problem for you it is a handy idea. Most people measuring one by one serves won't get it bang on either.

      A Science-Backed Quantity of Electrolytes
In the many years we spent mixing electrolyte drinks at home before LMNT existed, we made many messes and had quite a few misses, but we also came up with several great recipes. If you prefer to source your own electrolytes instead buying LMNT, jot this down and grab a scale:
½ teaspoon salt provides about 1 gram sodium
400 mg potassium chloride provides about 200 mg potassium
¼ teaspoon of magnesium malate provides about 60 mg magnesium
400mg is correct, what your body is probably absorbing is around 200mg, that's where the confusion may lie

You may want to notice too much sodium / salt is not helpful for potassium absorption. Get good salt with reduced sodium content. In Europe I found sodium reduced salt from Catalanian salt mines in Northern Spain, that naturally has 24 - 40% less soduim and instead contains a lot of kalium. This unprocessed natural salt doesn't require any Lysinhydrochlorid to get rid of bitter taste that other low sodium salts may contain.

Gracias! Absolutely love LMNT but I go thru 2 boxes each month (i.e. about $1K/year).
    1) And a great way to naturally flavor each drink is to add some sliced fruit. I put about a quarter cup in a 20-onuce sports bottle.
    2) If you keep your favorite sliced fruits in Ziploc bags, it's a lot more convenient than doing each one. And depending on how frequently you make drinks, consider keeping the sliced fruit in the fridge/freezer to elongate the freshness.
    3) If you're transitioned on a Keto diet make sure you're getting enough Iodine. I lost 82lbs in 2023 but after 4-5 months I had a minor hiccup...I always felt cold. I normally wear t-shirts everywhere but I found myself wearing a thermal as well as a jacket. Turned out that I wasn't getting enough Iodine. After just a few days of taking Iodine supplements, I felt fine. At any rate, most salt products are enriched with iodine...but not Himalayan salt. If you're not getting enough real salt in your diet consider getting Iodine drops to put in your LMNT recipe.

LMNT flavored products contain maltodextrin not openly disclosed. It is included in "0ther flavors/ingredients". LMNT is allowed to do this because the government considers it a safe additive. I think it is important to point out that the quantities you show are for 1 packet (i.e. 1 serving) of equivalent LMNT. This is NOT the recommended total amount of electrolytes a person might require in a day. Many active people choose to consume more than 1 dose per day. Electrolyte requirements can vary substantially based on person size, diet, activity level, and temperature. It is best to sip your electrolytes throughout the day. Chugging it all at once may reduce the amount actually absorbed. Like most supplements, the goal is to consume only the amount of electrolytes that will actually benefit you. You do not want to over consume or under consume.

    • @hossyskitchen6559

Great post! I've been making ours for a couple yrs now, from supplies I bought from Bulk Supplements. Same result you have achieved, very low cost per serving since each ingredient is purchased in one lb to one kilo amts. I also experiment w/various forms of magnesium & potassium, as well as throwing in some zinc and/or lemon powder or other powdered flavor now & then. We've also used the Kroger/MIO water flavors, often finding them for under a dollar at a local discount/overflow grocery place (Peoria Discount Grocery). His own son said that he is not a good person and is “void of empathy” and only cares about money, which makes me feel concerned about the actual quality of his products and the information that he puts out. My teenage son has been addicted to the monster drinks and I’m really concerned because of all the stuff that’s in those. And also was looking for a good electrolyte drink. So when I bought a container of mix from Amazon, it was about 70 servings and it was close to $30. It was the best quality I could get for the price and I was still really, not comfortable spending that much money on an electrolyte drink. So I got the idea to make an electrolyte drink, but then spike it up with some amino acid liquid and some niacinamide/B3 liquid along with some Stevia and some natural watermelon flavoring. I even threw a little bit of Vitamin C powder to give it a little bit of that sour taste. It turned out really good! I keep it in a large pitcher in the refrigerator :-) I didn’t have magnesium or potassium so I used liquid ionic trace mineral drops. I’m gonna have to get some of the ones you mentioned here and add it to the mix. :-) thanks!

Thank you for providing the ingredients with equivalent measuring spoon amounts. Am going to try this as our diets must exclude sweeteners or artificial flavourings. I think I will skip the magnesium malate since we take magnesium glycinate supplements every day. Look forward to seeing how it all turns out!

LMNT really isn’t that pure. The flavored packets have ‘natural flavors’ which are chemical concoctions devised by “flavor houses’ and they don’t have to disclose what chemicals 5hey use. I call that DECEPTIVE. Think about it.

Fair enough. If you make it yourself then you can determine what flavors you use. Thanks for watching.

It seems like there's something in the flavored ones that hooks you, after I started drinking them, I was craving it, so I just buy tge un flavored ones now. But I will be trying this recipe 😊

Great video, thank you. You didn’t mention to how much water you’re adding each portion to. Does it matter just as long as you’re getting one portion a day?

I use a 20 ounce water bottle. On the LMNT website they reccommend 16-32 ounces of water. The less water the more salty it will be. Thanks for watching.

Be sure to research the brand of Himalayan pink salt purchased, some brands will just dye rock salt and sell it as the same thing but the authentic stuff has more mineral content and obviously no dye.

Great hack! Myself, I typically just have fresh OJ and milk. They're both loaded with potassium and have a good amount of magnesium, plus the milk has calcium. I also supplement mag taurate, mag threonate, and mag glycinate. Electrolytes are crucial.

Chemically speaking, the calcium found in pasteurized cows milk is a form of calcium we can not uptake. Hence why most old people from the last two generations have osteoporosis but yet drank their weight in milk. The milk industry lies just like the pharmaceutical industry. Research it unbiasedly if you don’t believe me.

Salt is best measured by weight because many of the specialty salts or kosher salts have larger crystal size than standard table salt and therefore require a larger volume to get equal weight.

    • @hossyskitchen6559
      @hossyskitchen6559  4 месяца назад

Agreed. That would be the best way to measure it. Thanks for watching.
