This video was fascinating! Loved your editing. These train churches are proof that God moves in mysterious ways. These church leaders in the 1800s were inspired to bring their churches to the people and towns that didn't have their own permanent churches. Thank you for making this video!
You are gifted with three (at least) talents which you are very effectively combining. Historian, storyteller and filmmaker. It's so cool that you have created the perfect way for those three gifts to compliment each other! Well done! Keep chugging along the tracks.
My sweet dad is a convert to the LDS church from the Episcopalian church and has always been obsessed with trains so I sent him this episode. He’ll love it.
I am a long time fan of trains. I have my great grandfather's old wooden tool box from when he was a mechanic on the B&O. Thanks for doing this episode!
Thank you for a very interesting explanation about Railroad chapel cars! I didn't know they existed! I appreciate your insights about not only the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but other churches as well! I hope you are saving your money to come back to Utah when the Salt Lake Temple is finished. I am certain you saw the renderings of how many of the rooms will look after they finish restoring them. By that time you should be able do do ordinance work. I loved the Salt Lake Temple before. I hope I will be able to attend after the restoration is complete. My daughter has promised also to drive me to Manti probably in the Spring to attend the temple there. I have been telling others about your podcasts and that you are raising money for St. Jude Children's Hospital. May you feel the Lord blessing you as you continue to serve Him and others. 🙏😇
@@CNStanza1 I just use my phone. I've been considering upgrading to something a little better to make things stand out more. For now, this seems to do the trick.
This is where the hymns about trains cone from! What fun history! Now I want to play one these organs/pianos on these trains, just to say I did it once!
They did have a few other train hymns to play on the piano. Taking a look at some more pictures - they had "Life's Railway to Heaven," "The Gospel Train," and "This Train" (which was incredibly short).
@@52churchesin52weeks I do video, or I used to, for my business so I totally notice those things because I would have done the same thing! It takes a long time to get things right on!
I remember visiting Virginia city, a ghost town in Montana and they had a chapel car there. We took a picture of all us kids preaching to the empty car and because of that photo I’ve never forgotten it. So this was a fun video since I never understood why there was a chapel car there. Thanks David!
I love the way you wade through the Christian world of culture and people, Brother Boice! From wrestling, snakes and now chapel cars.......I find your journey to be fascinating, as well as a look into something off the wall. With all the odd variations of religious denominations you've shared with us on RUclips so far.........where do you go now??? God Bless You!!! 🙂
@@52churchesin52weeks Great, David.........the odder, the more fascinating I find them. And, you seem to have a knack of finding the real odd-balls. BTW, I hope you find another one or two Appalachian churches to explore, as well.....I wonder if there are quite a few *outta' the mainstream* religions there that might have a very friendly atmosphere that encourages outsiders to join in their worship, and share insights of their doctrines and practices.
That is wild! My father worked at Geneva Steel in Orem in the 70’s when I was a young girl. Right now I am about five city blocks away from where Geneva steel use to be… by Utah Lake. My grandparents and great grandparents would’ve been here in Orem when ‘Grace Chapel’ would have passed through. Geneva is no longer there, but you can find one of its crucibles at the Megaplex movie theater… Kind of cool! This was really fascinating, thanks for sharing!
This was such an original episode. Thanks for once again expanding our combined cultural literacy. Loved the conductor's outfit. What's next on your list, temple trains? 😅
Going to watch this super soon, I saw this on the "shorts" and wondered if you were going to make a video on it. I just posted a comment on your latest video about this popular spiritual destination town called Sedona (in Arizona) that draws 5 million visitors in a year for it's spiritual attractions that would be so much fun for church nerds like yourself to see. Nearly every building has some kind of spiritual attraction--more info on my other comment I posted.
I hope you were rail-y impressed by this one. Let me know what you thought.
🚂 Full steam ahead to the next video!
Loved all the rail puns!!❤😂

"Yes, after sacrament the men will proceed to the elders quorum caboose". I'm down with that.

As for episodes that are pre-heating, expect one to drop on an airport chapel. Won't be as fun as this one though.
Fascinating. Never heard of this before. I wonder how the acoustics affected the ability of the speaker to reach the people in the back.
