@@Stephendenham his worst career World Cup result has been 3rd place and the Springboks’ worst ever World Cup result is Ireland’s best. Am I allowed to say that I don't believe him. Or that even if I did he doesn't understand Irish humour. No way the Irish players took a quarter final against the New Zealanders for granted. Absolutely no way.
Eben is right that Ireland shouldn’t have underestimated the New Zealander’s. After all the All Blacks were the better team in the WC final and would have won if SA hadn’t benefited from some murky decisions.
I have no problem with Ireland saying see you in the final. You have to be confident and think you will beat everybody especially when they had the run of wins they had. Same with Eben saying we will get them back if they get there. Same mindset but maybe a little more worried about the upcoming opponents. All Blacks played extremely well to beat Ireland in the quarters but I’d argue only SA would have beaten France that day in the Quarter finals. France played insanely well. Also you have to give SA credit for playing the hardest World Cup run to the finals and winning.
Both great locks You guys played against each other The British lions tour was epic I feel the next Lions Tour is going to be huge. With SA teams playing in Europe it's going to magnifying the British lions tour.
No point making up stories after the fact, Ireland were thinking about the All Blacks obviously and lost by two points in a game for the ages. Any other chatter around opponents was coming from media as it always does, they don't speak for us fans
It actually wasn't a 1 penalty game between SA and Boks but 2. As SA did not need the 2nd penalty and in order to avoid the risk of a charge-down or hitting the post, they chose instead to kick the ball out. If scores were tied, then SA would definitely have had a shot at posts.
The Springboks don't always win, but it sure is a spectacle watching them play, you know it's going to be physical, and damm, they just never give up. Also they're HUGE.
That was probably respect for the Springboks. Yeah there's a bit of arrogance in it. But its the kind of thing you say - doesnt matter you lost today, youll be in the final. Eben is a legend and DB is great on the pod.
This comment just seems dodgy!! the fact that he says 12 outta 23. Very overly specific! just over half of them! Was he counting them as they said it??? absolute rubbish I'm guess. More gamesmanship. The All black did the also. Have you ever met an arrogant Irish person? its just not in their nature and Farrell would never allow this in the team. I call bullshit!! Does he think about naming who said it then??? if you are calling people and a team arrogant then have the balls to name names.
Great interview . Eban is a good bloke and a damn good player. Yes I believe ireland got ahead of themselves but there is nothing wrong with being confident and why wouldnt they be with the way the previous four years had unfolded for them. Interesting comment at the end when Eban is told 'you guys have done a good job over the last 8 years of being on top'. Yes two world cups however only one Rugby championships and the All blacks won the other 7 yes to be crowned world chamion is one thing but in reality it is just one tournament so hardly on top. You need to sustain the momentum to keep the title legit. The AB's have in the past had a couple of low points . The early 2000's was similar to what they have just gone through with Foster in charge. Historically though they have come back stronger and gone on a long winning streak. The introduction of Razor Robinson as coach could well be the beginning of another one of those cycles { maybe }. Will be interesting to see how his coaching style matches up to Rassie who is a class coach. Another thing to consider is how Aus are going to go with Joe scmidt in charge. Meanwhile I'm really looking forward to see the ireland SA clash. Going to be epic. I cant wait.
There is zero chance Ireland were overlooking the All Blacks. They constantly banged on about “the next game is all that matters”. And they clearly prepared for that tournament with the aim of peaking for the quarters, hence why they picked essentially the first 15 for every game. That tactic couldn’t have been designed to peak in a final. Clearly weren’t overlooking the quarters. And am I the only one who has heard or said this on a pitch after winning or losing a game? It’s a platitude to the losing team. And what is wrong with visualising being in the final? In a lot of other sports that would be the only acceptable mindset.
I really do feel for the Irish. As a Bok fan, we were there in the early 2000s. We were always there or thereabouts, but we just couldn't win anything meaningful. Being in a regional tourney with the All Blacks didn't help. At least the Irish have the let off of playing in the 6 Nations.
Half the springboks said "see you in the final" to the Irish lads after the game. Its got nothing to do with seeing past another team, merely a respect in how hard both teams fought. Etzebeth is a fool if he thinks none of the Springboks said the same thing to the Irish.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is even true... maybe he's trying to get in the Irish lads heads...bundi aki let a tongue slip alright by saying we'll see them again...but I couldn't see half the Irish lads looking past the all Black's...
Not sure I agree with Biggar there at the end, if they were staying on top then they'd have won at least one RC and spent a decent amount of time at number 1. Rugby doesn't just show up once every four years then disappears.
Springbok way is a defence way, it may have won a few world cups but in terms of matches won its the All Black way, Springboks would still need to win 30 on the trot to be match the All Blacks
He talks about it as though the whole team said it?! it was surely just one person and you can't pin that on the whole team. Hindsight is a great thing and Ireland were always slated for their lack of belief in themselves so that's where that comes from. Love the way he says Ireland were cocky to say something like see you in the final and then immediately turns around and says we’ll get them back-if they make it-which was no guarantee playing France at home
Constant chatter in Ireland was could they make it out of a quarter final breaking what feels like our doomed fate and cursing the fact it was the ABs. Most people probably were similar to BOD in thinking that if (and at that we all knew, bar the normal always overconfident lads that any fan group has) we were able to make it out of the quarter final we would have a really good chance at getting through the semi and making it to a first ever final. The tour the year before was barely a comfort in saying anything more than this is a team we now know we can beat as opposed to 10 years ago feeling could we ever beat them.
That Eben thinks the team would be that cocky just shows he doesn’t really get Irish people as opposed to anything about the teams he played. Cause sure as shit, them lads would’ve understood playing the Saffas again would mean going somewhere no Irish team has ever been
In 2016, İreland won one test in Capetown, lost 2, in 2017 when the Boks came to Dublin, Ireland smashed them 38-3, in 2022 in the Autumn Internationals, Ireland won and in 2023 in the World Cup, İreland were the only team to beat South Africa. As a long in the tooth rugby fan, I remember one thing about all those games, either a Boks coach or player, often both......gave Ireland a warning.....the Irish just love getting a warning.😉
Remember in 2016- 2017 those were the darkest years of Springbok rugby where ABs twice put 50 points on us, Italy and Argentina for the first time beating the Boks. Ireland couldn't win a series in SA against the worst Bok team of all time and mind you that was your 1st win against Boks in SA.
@@siviwenjajula5844 It was the first time, but, 1965, Ireland 9-6, 1970 was an 8-8 draw, 2004 Ireland 17-12, 2006 Ireland 32-15, 2009, Ireland 15-10, 2014 Ireland 29-15, 2016 Ireland 26-20, 2017 Ireland 38-3, 2022 Ireland 19-16, 2023 Ireland 13-8. In the past 22 games, Ireland won 9 of them and drew 1. In the 12 game of the professional era... since 2004, in 12 games, Ireland have won 8 of them. You should really check your facts before you make a total f00L of yourself.😉 So maybe the first win in SA but Ireland is very well accustomed to kicking overconfident Boks arses.
@@brianmsahin all these Irish wins you've listed are all played in Dublin apart from 1. Hence I said in over 100 years, you only beat the Boks once in SA and that win was against the worst springboks team in history and that worst team won the series 2-1. Plus Springboks have beaten Ireland more times in Ireland. Those are the facts. I'm not even gonna talk about WCs😅🤣
@@siviwenjajula5844 Remember when Stander was red carded in the opening few minutes of the deciding game? You know the advantage that gives, having had the same benefit in the RWC 2023 final
@@siviwenjajula5844 Can you not read ? 🤔 I agreed that it was the first time. But just look at the recordin the past 12 games 8-4 including the last 4 in a row. The Boks have no reason to be cocky. However, I'm glad you are. Just as the Stormers were playing Munster in the URC finals and the Bulls and Lions were just in the past couple of weeks. When the Boks get cocky, it's easier to beat them. 😉
Growing up as a kid I used to be angry watching Jim playing for Scotland, because the way he played rugby I always thought he’s a South African.

Eben already starting with the mind games. Saying "see you in the final" is so often said in the moment after a big game in an effort to console the opposition players that have lost and are obviously feeling miserable.
If Ireland were that cocky, they would've lost by more than just four points.
Mate the All Blacks didn't say that when beating us in the pool game in 2019.
@@rick1892 There's no chance the Irish boys said that? He's going to lie on a podcast that all the Irish guys are going to see? Grow up man, of course they said that. Ireland were very confident about making the final, despite their awful WC record.
This podcast was good enough without the click bait picture and click bait heading.
Jim klappin Eben in Nelspruit will forever be etched in my memory 😅
It’s a different culture/mindset. Them saying that is not how Eben has perceived it at all. Although that is literally what was said it’s not what was meant. Nuance of Irish dialect.
What are you on about?
@@AlphaNevada123 It was basically a show of respect, meaning they fully expected SA to get to the final and they could go again as it was a close game.

Biggar is a class act. Always liked him.
See you in the final means altho you lost against us, ye will win against France. It was thier way of giving ye props, Eben is a savage in the game but my God totally missed the compliment, and it was a compliment not arrogance. 😅
It was arrogance. The whole world saw the display of arrogance by the Irish in the Rugby World Cup. There was no mistaking it.

jeepers the anger on here ?! Relax all . Enjoy the rugby and if you win a world cup enjoy that and celebrate because it’s so special ! Eben etzebeth world class player there 👍 even tho I’m Welsh and our rugby is struggling at mo I do luv a good boks team 💪
Guys this is so refreshing. I remember like 2012-2016 with SA rugby in very poor shape and before that even though we won in 2007 (that really turned me into a lover) there was stagnancy and political meddling before and after.
to be fair though, as much as eben said 'we wouldnt say that because we know we get the host nation,' he did say that, he overlooked france by saying 'we'll get them again, if they make it,' implying he was certain theyd get through, same as the irish players...
which could mean get them next time when we play them in the future.

Etzebeth is just playing mind games here. It is a compliment to Ireland that he feels he needs to stoop this low. Ireland are in his head :)
Where can we get the full video version of this? Love it btw
Total bollox, I promise the players did not say that. There only focus was the quarters.
Saffer here. No way they meant it in an arrogant way. They are also saying they knew South Africa would beat France and England which is more of a compliment. Nothing but respect for this Irish team
Jesus could they not just enjoy being world champs rather than constantly going on about how humble they are compared to everyone else. Absolutely no craic.
Good to hear some real rugby knowledge and feel for the game from Dan. Great addition to the pod.
Still dont understand why UK people think Dubai is such a great holiday.
Oh shit. That's right. They don't live in SA or OZ or NZ.
We'll see you in the final was an adrenaline fuelled payment of respect made minutes after an epic match. Reading into it 6 months later is a bit silly.
not silly, great bit of mind game shithousery
@paulM-gs7jz I have to agree. He probably spent all night on the phone to the boss trying to come up with an angle to play. Im obviously an irish fan, but I don't see this summer series as the must win that it's being made into. It should be a chance to blood players on both sides. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen.
@@burncarlow Yeah Irish here too. Rassie has a playbook and it is in full swing already by the sounds of things
@paulM-gs7jz I like the guy as a coach I'm just fed up of hearing the constant noise. I know that's what he wants but annoying all the same. Takes away from the good experience.
As an irish man that has played sport to a high enough level ! It is a compliment to the other team that we have just beaten.. to say "see you in the final" not meant to be arrogant saying we'll be in it !! Maybe its just an irish thing 🤷♂️
Anyway Eben practically said the exactly the same thing by saying "We'll get them, if they get there" underestimating there QF and SF opponent's
Oh yeah, with all the RWC finals Ireland have been in. Makes total sense.
I'm Irish too and I'm surprised that they said this. Probably a bit of adrenaline and overconfidence after beating the world champs. Anyway they learned their lesson.
Yeah he totally contradicts himself. He thinks Ireland are cocky, turns around and says the same thing to Big Jim
@@Stephendenham his worst career World Cup result has been 3rd place and the Springboks’ worst ever World Cup result is Ireland’s best. There are few teams and players that can have the confidence to say things like that and Eben being one of the best players in a Springbok team that has played three 7 game World Cups in a row is one of them.🤷🏽♂️
Yes but he said that to a Springbok
Am I allowed to say that I don't believe him. Or that even if I did he doesn't understand Irish humour. No way the Irish players took a quarter final against the New Zealanders for granted. Absolutely no way.
That's lies, ask him what 12 players said it to him?? He's building up the summer series
Eben is right that Ireland shouldn’t have underestimated the New Zealander’s. After all the All Blacks were the better team in the WC final and would have won if SA hadn’t benefited from some murky decisions.
100%
That comment in no shape or form indicates that they underestimated NZ. You can believe you'll win against a team and still respect them
NZ missed two kicks, don't come here with kak like that, where is your evidence? Typical sour Po3s answer.
Time to move on
Where is Andrew Goode? 😮
Both great locks
You guys played against each other
The British lions tour was epic
I feel the next Lions Tour is going to be huge.
With SA teams playing in Europe it's going to magnifying the British lions tour.
British & Irish lions, that's its official name.
Next lions tour is in Australia and Lions don’t play in SA again until 2035. For all we know SA teams might not even be playing in Europe by then
Will Australia be able to fill up stadiums
No point making up stories after the fact, Ireland were thinking about the All Blacks obviously and lost by two points in a game for the ages. Any other chatter around opponents was coming from media as it always does, they don't speak for us fans
Never underestimate the All blacks. They literally have the highest winning percentage than any team that’s ever existed.

I am going back to watch that Wales vs Bokke game from 2019. That game gave me grey hairs.
Where can you watch the whole podcast video?
Where’s the full podcast???
I really do feel for the Irish. As a Bok fan, we were there in the early 2000s. We were always there or thereabouts, but we just couldn't win anything meaningful. Being in a regional tourney with the All Blacks didn't help. At least the Irish have the let off of playing in the 6 Nations.
Half the springboks said "see you in the final" to the Irish lads after the game. Its got nothing to do with seeing past another team, merely a respect in how hard both teams fought. Etzebeth is a fool if he thinks none of the Springboks said the same thing to the Irish.
How do you know this 😂 SA doesn't have this mentality, the players are humble that's why they achieve so much
Winning is simply everything. These guys eat, sleep and drink that.
Even if ireland win, they still havent won a wc qf... imagine...🤣🤣🤣
Where can l find the full podcast episode
I wouldn't be surprised if this is even true... maybe he's trying to get in the Irish lads heads...bundi aki let a tongue slip alright by saying we'll see them again...but I couldn't see half the Irish lads looking past the all Black's...
Not sure I agree with Biggar there at the end, if they were staying on top then they'd have won at least one RC and spent a decent amount of time at number 1. Rugby doesn't just show up once every four years then disappears.
The World Cup overshadows everything else. Not saying it should be like that, but it is.
Where is the full podcast?
Big talk from Etzebeth, whether it's true or not he's setting up the July series to be extremely physical
Arguably the best lock in the world - still humble, plays the game and not the result
Springbok way is a defence way, it may have won a few world cups but in terms of matches won its the All Black way, Springboks would still need to win 30 on the trot to be match the All Blacks
'See you in the final' would be a very Irish thing to say to a team they just beat bit it would be meant as a compliment to ghe other team.
He talks about it as though the whole team said it?! it was surely just one person and you can't pin that on the whole team. Hindsight is a great thing and Ireland were always slated for their lack of belief in themselves so that's where that comes from.
All in all Eben's cocky statements here will be pinned to the Irish dressing room wall now.
Ireland to win the series. We did it in Australia and New Zealand, so It's not too far a reach to win down in South Africa
Its your world cup final, 1-1 is probably most likely outcome
Who cares about the series in bokke, its 2027 that counts now
