Biden signs 10-year deal with Ukraine

- President Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a 10-year security agreement hours after leaders of the Group of Seven major democracies announced a plan to tap frozen Russian assets and provide Ukraine with $50 billion in additional funds. It all came a day after the United States also announced new sanctions on individuals and companies helping Russia’s war effort.
“We’ve taken three major steps at the G-7 that collectively show Putin he cannot wait us out,” Biden told reporters as he appeared with Zelensky at the Italian hotel villa where he is staying. “You cannot divide us. And we’ll be with Ukraine until they prevail in this war.”

They're not pro-Russia, they're anti-war, or at least they're supposed to be.
Update:
I see many valid arguments being made. I know that the sentiments of many Republicans do not match my own. One clarification I will add is that I am not making a historical argument, I am just claiming that in this one particular issue, the republican stance (generally, obvious exceptions) is that they want to encourage peace between the two nations, NOT support the Russians in any of their military efforts. In my own opinion, the policy of the republican party should be (and should always have been) to encourage peace. (Unfortunately, this was not the case historically.)

Because our country will exist beyond a presidential term, and this goes for every country in the world with a change in leadership. Just because the leader changes, doesn’t mean a country is allowed to drop all agreements they’ve signed before.

All of which degrades Russia's military capacity and makes Russia less of a threat to the US for the next 10 years or so. So it's win win for the US. Plus it's not even that much money by the standards of the US defence budget.

The Senate has to negotiate treaties. SCOTUS should shit all over this deal.
To be honest we are giving g to much money away, a lot of Americans are struggling and we need to focus on being stable first before we help others, granted the war in Ukraine is terrible but if the US doesn’t get its shit together people will have to donate to us. We need to become more stable like using less on the military to help homelessness. I personally don’t take a side in politics because both the candidates and parties are incompetent and I kinda wish there were not parties and people could just show their ideas and that’s what you vote for not the parties, we need to get our shit together before we are the ones in need of financial / military aid
We. Are. Not. Giving. them. Money!
We are giving them M1 Abrams, M2 Bradley, ATACAMS, HIMARS, Patriot missile systems...

I used to support zelensky.."man of the people" until i found out that while Ukrainians were being killed and displaced, he and his entourage were becoming very very wealthy. Driving around in luxury cars, having multiple luxury homes abroad, yachts etc. Yeah....that aid money is going straight in their pockets

You know it's bad when even the left to start getting mad at Biden
At least we are willing to criticize our own.
The Right is utterly and truly incapable of criticizing their own people or ever admitting wrongdoing or holding any of their own people accountable. They will ALWAYS defend their own no matter what the person did.
Because they are selfish people who lack morals and a conscience.
The left has been mad at biden the whole time. His policies are too right wing and weak.
We already had an agreement with them. If they gave their nuclear weapons back to russia, the US would step in if russia ever attacked them.
1994 Trilateral Statement
Ukraine agreed to transfer its nuclear warheads to Russia and accepted U.S. assistance in dismantling missiles, bombers, and nuclear infrastructure. Ukraine's warheads would be dismantled in Russia, and Ukraine would receive compensation for the commercial value of the highly enriched uranium
Nothing was binding though.
They weren't their nukes... they were the Soviet union's, and they didn't have the launch codes for them anyway, just because someone parks their car near your house doesn't mean the car is yours, the deal with the nukes was that Ukraine will become a neutral country and will be protected both by Russia and the US if it will keep its neutrality, the US tried to flip their neutrality and get them to join NATO, and thus we have this war. wake up.
This was an incredibly foolish thing for Ukraine to have done. The United States is not a dependable ally and had shown that many times before 1994. Not only that our government constantly changes so unless its a law, and even then, there's a high chance that policy will change every 2 years. I have no idea why they would give up their nukes for that, and I'm sure at this moment they regret it given that they will not win against Russia even if the U.S. keeps helping them but likely we will not follow through. The reality is Ukraine will lose territory and then Western Ukraine will be forced into a unfair IMF deal to rebuild their economy and they will be a destroyed state, which isn't that far of a fall from the oligarchical corrupt state they were before they started.
"Temporary and ineffective" ... Zelensky sure is familiar with those words.
And no money is left for American citizens. Our money just keeps getting sent off when we need it here
no, your money keeps being handed over to billionaires. And trump's tax cuts for them significantly added to this.
The only Americans that money would have gone to are the billionaires. Why? Because they can afford to donate a lot to politicians.
Right. That is why I made less money under Trump and had more money to do what I wanted with than now when I make 30% more and have less to do what I want with. Tax cuts went for everyone
What exactly do you propose? Should we be donating Bradley IFVs to homeless shelters? Do we give a 155mm artillery shell to everyone on welfare?
The US isn't sending pallets of cash to Ukraine, it's sending old equipment that does nothing but take up expensive storage space and is prohibitively expensive to appropriately dispose of. Giving it to another country at war is the most cost-effective option on the table.
Not true in the slightest, the vast majority of public spending here in the States goes towards our welfare programs and public services, foreign aid is a very tiny proportion of overall spending.
I honestly don’t know why even our allies trust us even a little bit anymore, we signed a treaty to help protect Ukraine sovereignty when we (USA) convinced them to give up their nukes… I swear we have been doing this since we first signed treaties with the Indians then we do our best to get around everything when it becomes inconvenient
every country has done that
When did the usa sign a treaty with india...?
@@aprofessionalgamer5355the native americans
Because it's easy. Other countries could (and are to a small extent after Ukraine War) developing their own militaries but it's easier to just get the US to do it. Thing is, the deals are often unfair. The US gains some proxy, slows down rivals, or maybe a few resources while other nations have their existence on the line.
People could also try their luck with China and Russia but that's up to them.
