Still has support in the form of Indie titles released for it. In fact, the Dreamcast has gotten new retail games for it every single year since it has been out since 98, except for 2011. That was unfortunately a dry year for Indie releases, but homebrew was still released during that year. But I know what you meant. Even if they only stuck in there and called it quite a year or 2 later, so many more great games would have continued to come out for it.

That wasn't really the PS2s fault. SEGA and their decisions late in the game with Genesis, as well as the Saturn and the bridges they burned with it are what killed the Dreamcast. The thing was doomed to fail from the beginning. Especially in the west.

I've almost totally customized my Dreamcast, I replaced the shell with a clear case that does not have the compatible with Microsoft Windows SE logo on it,installed a Clone GDEMU,added the LaserbearGDEMU 3D Printed Shell and replaced the Power Supply with the PSU. The only thing left I still desire to do is replace the controller port board with the one that has the fuse that can re reset.

I can't understand how i will understand that my dreamcast is overheating? When overheating dreamcast do i get any message on screen? @@Tsigarinho nope nothing will display on the console. What happens is the power supply just operates at a high temperature. Like it gets a fair amount hotter. The problem here can, over time, brown out or burn out the power supply much quicker. The resistors act as a safe guard.
Dont need the fan mod with that proper sdcard mount as it will keep the airflow as original. Also I'd like to add, the heat from the absence from a 12v load is highly debatable as being as great as a difference as some mention. I personally think its because in the early days before the trays where being made, folks were simply installing the Gdemu bare which allows a lot of dead space for the airflow from the fan to dissipate before it reaches the psu. With proper trays like you show, the air flow is now directed to the PSU as intended. So while the Dreamcast may get a tiny bit warmer, the factory fan should still be able to handle it.
Awesome mods dude! I just got a replacement DC with a gdemu installed. We'll see how it compares to my original one. As far as games go: Crazy Taxi 2, Tony Hawk 2, Tech Romancer, Skies of Arcadia, Project Justice, Soul Calibur, Giga Wing, Ikaruga, Power Stone 2, and Jet Grind Radio are can't miss.
I can't seem to find any shells that have all the Sega Logos on it. When you bought it did it not have the Sega marks on the picture maybe for copyright stuff?

Not between gameplay and UI/UX but its important to note, you cannot update the firmware on the clones. So you are stuck on the software version they provide, including any potential bugs
Great looking build, Power stone 2 DOA2 Sonic adventure 2 Capcom VS SNK 2 and a really great version of Street fighter 2 is on this system, its called Super Street Fighter II X for Matching Service.
Late to the party but that was great work, That said you're gonna wanna change that battery on the controller daughter board. That's no doubt dead or dying and can cause issues.
I'm in a similar situation, with 2 Dreamcast and one that sadly started giving me reading issues last week. Do you feel it's worth paying the extra money for the MODE, or are you fully satisfied with the GDEMU clone so far ? Also, if you do make that future video on HDMI mod for the DC, would you consider including that Noctua fan mod everyone is raving about ? I've been curious as to whether or not it makes such a notable difference.

In the video you referenced retrogamesultra instructions on the 12volt bypass. In their instructions they said to use three 1Kohm 1/4W resistors. In your video you said that you were using three 1/2 watt resistors. Is there a reason why you chose the 1/2 watt. Or was that a slip of the tongue. I'm wanting to order the best option for the mod. Please advise.

Did that shell come from Australia? I've had one of those as well as a gdemu clone saved on eBay for months. Just wasn't sure if the quality of the case was worth the price.
@@Restalgia The guy who makes these is from China, and he works at an electronics company that specializes in injection molded plastics. So it really was made as a 1.1 copy. I guess they took molds of the original and replicated it. But they only allow a few people to sell them. I wish we could buy direct from China and save some on shipping. The Aussie seller has to mark the product up some to make up for the shipping and just being a middleman.
Instead of adding the resistors you can just remove the 12v regulator from the PSU. Unscrew and unsolder or just clip the legs. One less thing on the PSU to generate heat.
Skies of Arcadia is amazing! Would love to see how to use the vmu to save your games on this coupled with the fact that games like sonic adventure and skies of Arcadia use the vmu for Easter egg/bonus features. Would love to see how that would with with this type of mod!!

I need to purchase and add those resistors. I suspect mine has been overheating because sometimes during gameplay, the system resets and goes back to the gdemu menu. And audio will skip when relaunching a game before resetting.

Oof, I've modded my Dreamcast in 2018. Changed the PSU, used a gdemu, build a VGA mod and build in a rpi0 for online gaming. It only cost me 2 days without a sponsorship. And about 55 bucks at a whole.
That is a very nice mod. I actually own two Dreamcasts myself. One of them I can play my backup games without the need for a mod chip. But this looks easy enough to do. I may do this mod to one of my dreamcast's. How would you add sn hdmi port?
There is a solder in kit which is a bit more advanced and not usually recommended for entry level modders. Ill hopefully be making a video in the near future.
only if there was a way to increase vmu memory with a micro sd! i also sorted out my dreamcast, with a rechargable ml2032 internal battery, new fuse, gdemu, dreampsu but kept the original case however i did put in a nice blue power led which i recommend for your case, you cant get enough blue then haha

Oof your console need the fan mod and the power supply change to avoid problems with the gd emu.you can probably add the battery and fuse mod . Outside this, not bad.
My SD card extension the cable or something was messed up and did not work I had to order a new one off of wish...because I would put the SD card into the gdm you and it would work but as soon as I put it into the 3D printed part it was giving me the red light on the board

Original GDEMUs can be bought for around 150$ from the original maker, you just have to lurk around his gdemu.wordpress.com blog to check when he's opening orders. BE AWARE, that GDEMU clones cannot be firmware updated. Doing so will brick your GDEMU clone, so if you buy a clone, you're stuck with that firmware version and possible bugs and erros it may contain.

Yep i read the comments! Thanks for watching. In terms of the sd card, I really couldn't sell you anything as it would be illegal. But honestly using the software I did in the video was so easy. Id recommend trying it.

No unfortunately not. I think I formated my sd card in my mac before I began the process is all and didn't trash it. 😅

How are the SD extension cables? Read they can be pretty finnicky?

Why not simply EMU like short for emulation!?
because it is not an emulator of the whole system, it is a emulator of the GD-ROM drive, that is why it is called GDEMU.
Original GDEMUs can be bought for around 150$ from the original maker, you just have to lurk around his gdemu.wordpress.com blog to check when he's opening orders. BE AWARE, that GDEMU clones cannot be firmware updated. Doing so will brick your GDEMU clone, so if you buy a clone, you're stuck with that firmware version and possible bugs and erros it may contain.

Yep i read the comments! Thanks for watching. In terms of the sd card, I really couldn't sell you anything as it would be illegal. But honestly using the software I did in the video was so easy. Id recommend trying it.

I tried modding my DC twice and both times just ended up breaking both that was a waste of 300 bucks. Lol yet another reason why i don't try any more I much rather pay someone to do it...

laser bear is seriously overpriced for Canadian buyers. Can easily find a 3d printed one on ebay that fits fine for far less than he sells them for.
