Do you remember “Draws Dracula” underpants with their drawstrings? They looked horrible, but were excellent at keeping your balls well ventilated on long marches. That was a time when we learned not to wear Y Front underwear as it chaffed your crutch raw! Horrible memories of jungle sores and leeches. Cheers mate Harera

I was in SF in Liberia in the early 80’s. A bunch of us went ‘commando’. We all came down with epididimitis..😂 we all got all underwear washed and dried..Have any of you had a similar experience? Bill

    G'day Simon,
The A/|\F is the Royal Australian Air force marking. the towel is the middle size issued, for shaving and basic ablutions. there was a larger size towel for drying after showering etc and a small washcloth size.

Towels, hexi stove and version of foot powder still being issued in the early to mid 80s. Don’t remember the jocks or that version of water purification being issued. Do you have a “Bot Spoon” or “FRED” in your collection? Get hold of a CR1M basically the same today as it was in the 80s and late 70s still contains a FRED, canned cheese, Vegemite and everyone’s favourite a tube of sweetened condensed milk. BTW the hexi tablets stank and the smell was transferred into everything you carried in your Nam and Bum packs.

Australian mess tins are interesting, the cut down ones of reduced height with the butterfly handles much like SADF pattern dixie

I've never seen a boxer short without a fly opening.

Tea never tastes the same unless it has a flavour of hexi.

I think he is referring to some of the wash kit items being purchased from civilian stocks rather than items from Army contracts that carried defence force acceptance marks and SNS numbers etc.

@@robstevenson1689 As I remember, they all, except possibly the Gilette razor in the little blue tin case, were D arrow D.

Pretty sure 'AF' denoted Air Force - I have seen green bush hats labelled the same.
