  • Maserati is an Italian luxury and sports car brand that doesn’t have the recognition that big names like BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, or even Ferrari have. For decades it was owned by Fiat Group, which later became Fiat Chrysler. Maserati gave it a presence in premium and luxury segments. But they've struggled in recent years, with falling sales and concerns among analysts that Fiat Chrysler did not make needed investments to update Maserati’s product lineup. Now that Fiat-Chrysler has merged with France’s Groupe PSA to form Stellantis, there is speculation over which brands in the stable will survive and succeed.

There are 3 major problems from the consumer end at least from how my family looked at both Maserati and Alpha Romeo. 1 The dealerships were not as welcoming as their competitors, they were much more hesitant to let anyone test drive a car, on the same day mercedes, Lexus, and Cadillac had no such hesitancy. 2 They limited availability of people who are able to do maintenance on the cars in the US, parents did not want to drive an hour each way for a simple oil change. 3 both brands have not had the reputation of being considered high-end long enough in the US to warrant their prices.

the problem imho is the flawed perception people seem to have of the brand. The market that has ruined most brands is still the US because of them confusing trucks with luxury vehicles, resulting in the SUV boom, which in turn began to rot away many of the premium brands' actual premium image. Maserati has been cheapened just to enter the american market twice now (biturbo before) and getting back up from such failures and prestige-dropping decisions is...hard. Halo cars only help if the brand removes the cheapness of its image and positions itself more as a bentley competitor rather than a MB or BMW competitor.

FALSE! I had my heart set on buying a Ghibli. I knew I wanted the SQ4 and even had narrowed it down to two color options. However, after test driving SEVERAL examples it became clear they were just poorly built. The whole car feel “Tinny” and fragile. The acceleration is laughable considering the motors they have. I truly believe this is carried over from the days when Ferrari was trying to keep them from matching their cars’ performance. The interiors are a parody of the hand crafted ones in the cars we saw in the early to mid 2000s. Plus those interiors wear poorly and fall apart embarrassingly. The current lineup is basically garbage. A revamp is long overdue

Reliability is the biggest key factor in the auto industry in which Maserati may be failed. People (mass market) love Tesla, Toyota and Honda for this very reason. Recently, Hyundai became a solid rival to capture this mass market for the fact that they provide RELIABLE cars. Normal people don’t like their cars break down when it is their biggest investment. Rich people don’t care when their car break down cause it’s a mere fraction of their overall wealth. So car companies need to understand core needs of the mass market if they want to survive.
