I have read "Days with my stepsister" so I can give some explanation on this. Basically the story focuses on the emotional struggle of the main characters. As mentioned, they just became stepsiblings at the age of 17, and both their parents didn't have a good divorce when they were young. As a result both of them were super traumatized and affected them in a way where they refuse to be close to the opposite gender. This kind of goes into a psychological affect, as they both lack interaction with the opposite gender while growing up, they fall into a very odd affection towards each other once they are forced into this friendly interaction after some time. Yes this is a story that eventually goes into romance after like 7 volumes of LNs, and it's not before a very good amount of emotional struggle on both sides thinking through everything that comes in their way, like "How should I set my boundaries with this stranger who is now my family?", "What is this unknown feelings I'm having?", "How should I talk about these awkward thoughts with others", "Relationship between step siblings are super weird, should I follow my feelings or not?" etc. I can be real I totally understand why you say it's "boring", one major issue is indeed the anime direction, they use a lot of long scenes that have little to no dialogue and stuff to show their daily life, their daily interactions are also very "daily", nothing very special. I have the feeling that is exactly what the author wants the anime direction to be, they don't really focus on elements that draw a broader audience, just focusing on telling the story in their own way. There's also the issue that a plot that solely focuses on emotional struggles isn't very appealing, to me it's fun to see psychological changes and character growth in the story, they focus a lot on self analyzing their psychological status and how it's causing issues in their current life, which really isn't something you want to see in a traditional romance story. On top of it it tells you from the get go it's a romance between step siblings and they are making it very serious. I get people in the West generally dislike this topic, but for some reason this topic is kinda popular in Japanese media for some reason... I don't know why.
I totally agree that Alya takes a back seat in the story that her name is literally on the cover. Funnily enough the more I read into the LN the more this feeling hits me, but not just for the reason you mentioned in the video. Personally the most "complaint" (if you can call this a complaint) of the story is all the side chicks are just too good compared to Alya. There's Yuki, mc's Sister who is extremely close to him both physically and mentally, and yes they are actual siblings so nothing will happen between them, but the fact they are siblings is a secret, so Alya actually considers her a legit competitor... in multiple ways. Not to mention Yuki basically is better than Alya in every competitive scene they are together, no matter the relationship with Kuze or the actual election. Alya does have some growth after time but you can clearly tell she is in no way possible to beat Yuki in the election on her own and needs Kuze to help her up to some degree. This isn't bad to say, but it does make you feel like she's simply not good enough. Frankly, our mc is the prodigy dude who can do everything perfectly, so it makes sense he is interested in this girl who works the hardest despite not getting much done and still refuses to give up. I assume he likes to see her try and error, then help her when he thinks he needs to, in the most rizzed up way possible. The other side chicks (namely Masha and Ayano), although they are not directly competing on the election with Alya, if you look deeper you will find out they are somehow still very competitive in the love interest part. Masha's development will come more in the next season so I won't go into it, but just from S1 we can still clearly see our mc boy very enjoys being with her for some reason. Ayano, who was Kuze's personal maid before his parents divorce, is still very close to him due to this reason, and she's not blood related so she is an actual competitor. Although she doesn't shows her emotions on face, she has some very questionable quotes that seriously implies she is very into the idea to start a relationship with Kuze, though I do agree she likely won't pose any actual threat to Alya in front of her. At the end of the day this story still formats somewhat very similar to those high school harem romance stories that was a popular romance story format in the past decade where the mc has multiple potential love interests competing to be with him. But yeah the anime really did very well to sell the show in many ways, overall even though I have this "complaint" I'm definitely still going to tune in Season 2 for sure. I really feel like this would be a good reaction addition to this channel if you did upload it, but it's too late for that already.
Too bad a lot of those shows didn't have reactions on this channel. I would definitely tune in some of them if you did post reaction videos of them, but I get it, editing videos are time consuming, it's not that easy to just upload every reaction on here.
