My grand mother worked as a waitress in the restaurant most of her life, retired at 65 with a pension, and received a lifetime 25% store discount. The Frango Mints that they made there in-house were never in short supply at my gram's and I ate so many when I was a kid that even the thought of them now kind of turns my stomach.

My girlfriend & I were shopping Marshall Fields on the last day before Macys (ugh) took over in 2006. It was a sad day for us!

I can't really justify it but it's how I feel, when Macy's took over I stopped shopping at, well, it wasn't Marshall Field's any more. The only time I stopped in the store after the sale was to see how much, if any, changed. There wasn't much difference that I could see (early on, haven't been back since), but, Macy's? Macy's? No thanks.

macy*s is fine in Herald Square...Manhattan...New York City. But not on State Street in Chicago's Loop. I really miss going to Chicago and Shopping/Visiting Marshall Field & Company. Although admittedly I do visit it and "The Walnut Room" and purchase "Frango" Chocolates from them. The ones sold at State Street still say "Marshall Field's" FRANGO on them. Hopefully macy*s will some day see the light and change at least the State Street Store back to it's original name. Apparently, they have the hold on the "Marshall Field" name so that no one else can use it!!!

Nice Video....but you neglected to mention "The Walnut Room" Restaurant on the South State 7th Floor Section of this Grand Department Store. It has been a part of Marshall Field And Company/macy*s State Street for over 116 years. Not forgetting "The Great Tree" at Christmastime.🤶

Yes, this video really captured the importance of the store. And the script was very good... almost poetic. The words, in a way, could be said to be as elegant as the store once was.

Field's customer service was excellent, an important part of their success & customer loyalty. At Macy's the customer is always last, Not first. 😮

First visited it in mid '50s. Downtown Chicago is not fun like it was before. Most stores now are national chains. Used to be many smaller shops. They tore down the older buildings with lower rent. Replaced them with new ones with very expensive rent. This made it impossible for most independant stores to remain in the Loop.

Sad what retail has evolved into. The 40's and the 50's were the best !

It's Marshall Field & Co. Not Marshall Field's

Marshall Field & Co. may be its formal name, but every Chicagoan called it "Marshall Field's" or simply "Field's."

Too bad they removed the beautiful cornice from the building in the 50s
