Man if you really listen to this song, its pretty deep. Everyone might have their own way of looking at it or interpreting it, but for me I feel like its talking about someone whos lived with regret for a long time and feels trapped because of their past mistakes and decisions. And her song is giving them this hope that the rest of their life is still "Unwritten". People who have a lot of regret, usually have a lot of "inhibitions", they carry a lot of unnecessary weight on their shoulders, they're nervous, shy, scared of the future, and afraid to try new things. I think "Open up the dirty window" means to open up your mind and heart, and release the feelings of regret and disappointment, then to start doing what you wanted to do, writing the new page of your book.
My sister absolutely loved this song. So many memories at family parties and gatherings of her dancing to it. She was a bright bubbly soul. We lost her in 2021 to Covid. Her loss hurts but understanding why she loved this song so much... This was her personality to the core. She loved others so much and made such an impact on so many lives. Rest in paradise Monica, I promise I'll always feel the rain on my own skin, no one else can feel it for me.
no one else can feel the rain for you.. this always reminds me of a friend that passed away of leukemia when I was 18 yrs old. last time I saw her at a party she was sitting out in the rain, no one knew why or that she was sick including me. I actually joined her for a while because why not. big deal it was raining. we were listening to some good music our friends were playing and it wasn't a thunderstorm, just a nice light summer rain. a treasured memory always evoked by this song.
When she was 15, my daughter told me this was her favourite song... I watched this video... at 1 am in my office... It made me cry my eyes out with absolute joy and pride and amazement ... hope... wonder... In a world determined to tell young girls how they will be, and how they can never be good enough... This song screams to the world I can, and I will, be and do what I decide, not what you want or write! In 3 and a half minutes I had the amazing realization ... my daughter... my "little ray of sunshine" is going to be ok, despite my fears, and my fierce protection and often flawed parenting... she is now an adult and she is self aware and ... she is going to be ok, by her own hand. This all sounds over the top... but to this father, this song, was a life event. She is now 22, graduated as a teacher this year... and I quietly turned this song up a couple of notches in the car when it came on the radio last week :)
that's beautiful. I lost my father a few years ago and not a day goes by that I don't how he shaped so much of who I am. she is lucky and proud to have such a great dad. happy Father's day.
My mom used to listen to this song a lot, but i didn't remember the name so I literally typed "open your window rain pouring" and this came up. Technology these days
saddest music video of all time. The poor book travels so far, putting so much effort into his quest. Then falls right when he reaches the top and dies, R.I.P little one, you'll never be forgotten.
I have been a college professor teaching local and foreign literature since 2016 at a Catholic university. At the end of every semester, just before the final exams week, I always show this music video to my literature class. And I just let my students realize that we started as unwritten books, and day by day, we "write contents" in our lives. And just like the book at the end of this music video when its pages were scattered all over the place, we, as a generation, will leave our legacy to future generations as they learn from our experiences. This song has been very relevant, at least for me, and will always have a special place in my heart. #Unwritten ❤
Since this song came out, over a decade ago, I've claimed this is my life's theme song. I've had theme songs for every step of my life but I felt this one hit me right in my soul. Today, I had a mental break, or as I call it: clarity. I'm now sitting in front of a roaring fire pit at 7a and listening to this on repeat.
***** Not the accent, the meaning. Lama Dinho European version is better than the US version in terms of what the song means. I find it fascinating that a different video can change the meaning of a song.
I'll always remember this music video for the rest of my life. I saw it during my high school and I still remember it now. It's the sad truth of reality, that no matter how we try to find happiness, people and reality will keep ruining us in the end. But hey, at least we tried, and our efforts will go down in history in written or any form. Someday, when we die, people will realize just how special we were.
Makes me sad that other people today are having such a hard time finding happiness. Maybe it's because they think they'll get remembered just for living. Maybe they think you don't have to put work into life and into being happy.
When this came out my Dad bought me the CD and I had this song on repeat!! I don't know why she did not sing more of her own material, she wrote awesome music for so many artists.
This is my favorite song ever. I love everything about it. I get so into the song when singing along with it that I don't even pause to swallow my saliva until the song's over, I like to be fully immersed in the experience every time, I always stop what I'm doing to listen to it if it's on the radio. It's such a beautiful song and message that it's shaped my philosophy on life. It was a big part of my childhood (I was born in 2000) and to this day it continues to be a message that continues to be true. Thank you so much, Natasha, for this wonderful gift to humanity!
It's November of 2020 and I must say Thank you, Natasha. Your song, Unwritten, is timeless and since it was released it has been one of the most inspirational songs that carry me through some very difficult times. Thank you for being a part of the "soundtrack" of my life. I hope you and everyone near and dear remain safe and healthy throughout this pandemic. **Muuuah**

I remember listening to this song back when it came out when I was about 7 years old. This is the first song I can remember from my childhood that I truly loved and felt in my heart. Didn't really understand the depth and message of it as a kid but I still loved it so much. It always reminds me of my childhood and where my love for music grew 🥺 true masterpiece.
This video is crazy, that book goes through EVERYTHING and then at the very end, a dove kills the book and all of its insides rain over everybody who thinks it’s confetti.
