US: Senate Passes Bill Banning TikTok If Chinese Parent Company Doesn't Sell It; "Sell Or Face Ban"
The US Senate passed a bill that could potentially ban TikTok in the country. The legislation demands TikTok sever ties with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, or face a ban. President Joe Biden has said he would sign the bill into law, although it is expected to face legal hurdles. Lawmakers are concerned that TikTok has links with the Chinese Communist Party and it sends data of US users to them. TikTok has denied having any ties with the Chinese and slammed the bill. TikTok said the legislation curbs the free speech rights of millions of Americans and it will contest the legislation in court, to stall its enforcement.
