This whole video is extremely helpful. I've always hovered around AoS & 40k, but never really dove into it (its all very daunting, haha.) Your advice on picking up troops first for painting I think is what I needed to hear to really get started. I've always looked at a great unclean one, or the glottkin and just thought, "Man that is so much that can go wrong." I'm finally going to take the plunge on trying to get that vanguard box you recommend!
The Vanguard box is one way, and it has some good value and a mixture but it isnt the only way. Grab a set of plague bearers or blight kings to start with if you want to dip your toes into the water. With your heroes, they are cool as hell and you want to paint them first but i always find that i regret doing them early. You learn alot as you paint your troops.
I was gifted Start Collecting Daemons of Nurgle & Maggotkin of Nurgle AND Great Unclean One on christmas. Now finally i'm starting to look at is there still some stuff to get and getting ready to start painting my army. Thanks a lot for the insights - very helpful and easy to understand for a newbie who hasn't yet actually played the game, but is very excited to start the journey with AoS ! :)
Ive been thinking about making an Ice themed nurgle army (based on icebergs melting and old diseases coming back through that) and everytime i watch videos like these i get closer to actually starting the army.
Maggotkin may now be slow moving; as they should be IMO, they have a crazy amount of move shenanigans. Gutrot lets you take 3 mortal units (Glotkin included!) and move them onto the board anywhere from the board edge, including your opponents deployment zone. Nurglings can come in 3" from any piece of terrain in your opponents zone. Lord of Afflictions lets you deepstrike Pusgoyle Blightlords and Plague Drones. You can build a list where every single unit comes in at your opponents deployment zone on turn 1 if you want. I absolutely love the new book. The disease mechanic is excellent. Your opponent tends to scoff at the ability at first, but after a few turns they see just how many models they have actually lost it starts to sink in, and the inevitable dread of having a terminal illness sets in. There are so many different list builds to play with. You are also not stuck with just Blightkings and Plaguebearers as battleline either. You can take Beasts of Nurgle, Pusgoyle Blightlords, and Plague Drones as battleline depending on subfaction and hero choices. The one thing I know some people will really struggle with is the bookkeeping though. Keeping track of disease points on enemies, contagion points, and the wheel of corruption can be a bit much. Personally, even that seems so fitting to the lore. Got to keep those tallys for Papa Nurgle! Lol
Absolutely love your points mate, I tried not to go too deep in a beginner focused video because things like thing can throw off someone. Appreciate all the additional insights in this comment 🤘
Plenty of other people have said it, but this really is exactly the kind of detailed overview I'd been looking for. A lot of videos aimed at new starters don't seem to cover *all* the bases, so this is perfect. Definitely gonna sub for more. 👍
Great video, Coach. I'm not jumping into Nurgle, but this was entertaining nonetheless with the work you put into presenting all the information. Looking forward to seeing more Beginners Guides!
Thanks Coach for a well thought out and and informative video! I won a Maggotkin Vanguard box from GW at Xmas. It’s been sitting on the shelf since but this video has got my hobby juices flowing. I’m going to buy a 2nd vanguard box and a great unclean one. I did notice in your playlists you don’t seem to have a Maggotkin section in the Chaos folder.
Thanks for this video it’s very helpful. I’ve been burned before by starting a gloomspite army without any real vision and none of my units worked together during my games which was kinda frustrating so videos like this are great for people like me that have no prior knowledge about starting a nurgle army!
Very nice and well structured format for a video series. Looking forward to more of these. Only thing missing would be a screen where you show all the battleline and battleline if options for the army. Like the one you did in your "Faction Rules - Maggotkin of Nurgle Battletome Preview" video. Seeing what battleline options your army has gives an overview of how to structure your first army. Since you have to use 2 or 3 battleline units in your list. Would fit into the "1st Miniature Purchases" section.
Thanks mate. I’m reluctant to add this level of complexity to a beginner focused video BUT we can always chat more about it on Discord. You don’t want to overwhelm somebody new to an army because sub-factions and allegiance builds can put people off by making it too hard / decision paralysis
Coach, great idea for a video series! Should help people get started in a hobby that can be a bit intimidating with specific factions. Also love the book/lore recommendation as I always seem to have an Audible credit or two to burn! Keep up the great work!
It depends on what type of Nurgle force you build, and I considered the mortal wound damage by being in melee a consideration to the melee rating. It's less about them being an ultra offensive melee army but one that prefers to be in the thick of combat, taking those punches, and spreading disease. I'm sure we could debate for hours on the ratings
Thank you for this great Vid, very informative! The Warhammer Universe has a lot of interesting Background Stories (Nurgle for Example!) For me, the Chaos, has the most interesting Background. Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for the Skull Throne
Thanks for the comment Hartwin. When you dig into the Chaos Gods you see that they aren't one dimension... and I love that they fight against each other for dominance
Maybe this is a crazy idea, I have a great desire to get the book and then start making custom sculpts for my whole army. I realize it wouldn't strickly speaking be "GW/tournament legal" but I would only be playing with friends anyway. Is there enough info about base sizes in the book for me to do such a thing?
Absolutely... the base sizes aren't in the book but you can find them on the Warhammer Community site OR if you look at the products on the Games Workshop website, under description you can see what size base they come on
I have a load of Nurgle home never played aos. I stopped Warhammer when the Dragon world banner come out. It meant that daemons unplayable. Will I need to change the base them?
I'm not sure what time the "dragone world banner" was but if your army is on the round bases instead of square bases, you'll be able to play with your Nurgle daemons without a problem in any setting. If you play casually, it doesn't matter what bases they are on. Daemons work well together as a whole army.
Looking to build a Nurgle army but it looks like the Pusgoyle Blightlords are now 250pts. Meaning your 1000pts army is now 1020pts and 2000pts army is now 2020pts
What do you guys think of running 3 GUO with 30 plaguebearers, 2 trees and summoning, as a list for someone not looking to always win but not always lose? 😂

@@AoSCoach That makes sense, lets go with that option, haha. Thank you again for all the advice!

I love that idea of an ice theme... kinda reminds me of how disease can be hiding within permafrost and new plagues spread across the realms

Thanks buddy. Definitely would like to do more of these as battletomes are updated but they are way more work than going live and talking 🤣
Wow! If I hear anyone saying they're even thinking about starting a Nurgle army, I'm sending them this video!
Thanks Matt. I'll be making more of these videos so hopefully they'll be as helpful
Popping into this channel for the first time and I love the paint scheme suggestion portions. Thank you for this.
It was a late inclusion but i’m glad it was helpful, not to say its the only way to paint them but you dont need to buy all the paint.
Absolutely awesome contribution to the community. Loved this.
Thanks heaps Coach!
I didn't roll any 6s against nugle on Friday. My rear end was handed to me on a platter. I had so much fun 😃✌
Damn Neil… if i can give you some advice, it would be to roll more 6s
@@AoSCoach great advise. I shall consider it. 😃👍
Great video and got you my sub. Just started with Nurgle in AOS as I love Death Guard so much!
Thanks for the sub mate and welcome to AoS Nurgle. You'll have a lot of fun

Gloomspite is really hard because it forces you to run a specific build.... Nurgle is more forgiving but I'm glad you found this video useful James.

I just really like the battleline (if) overview slides (screens?) that you have done so far. XD
Loved the army breakdown with the stars. Helps new players immensely
Glad it was helpful mate. I had a great suggestion on future videos on easy of paint which I'll add
Just the kind o video I needed... thanks a lot Coach !!!
Hell yeah! Glad it was helpful Carlos
This is one of the most helpful videos! Thank you so much
Glad it was helpful mate. A timely reminder I need to do more of these
That army profile chart is such a great idea. 10/10
Glad it helped mate. I wanted to highlight the strengths and weakness to help set expectations
Good new format Coach, happy to see my Nurgly boys get their time in the pestilent sun
Thanks Ben. Thought i’d try something new to help players get into Nurgle before all the list discussions on the channel
@@AoSCoach It was a really nice primer and just the sort of thing I used to look for when I was getting into the hobby.
Papa bless 🙏
Ps: ty for mentioning the GHR, aka the best chaos god
I swear i went looking for an image with all 5 but i couldnt find one…. I hope you accept my meme addition
I'm about to start an AOS Nurgle force by years end

Top video m8. Congrats!
Cheers boss!
Great video, very useful and extremely well organized! Thank you very much for your work!
Thanks Alessandro. Glad it hit the spot
Thanks coach :D just waiting for my 3 vanguard box and GUO.
I'll paint them in an Halloween/Tim Burton style to change a bit from the classic.
3?! You mad man. I expect to see photos of this Halloween/Tim Burton army
Great job coach! 👏
Much love Levi as always
Engagement for the Engagement God, Metrics for the Metrics Throne.
Much love to the greatest news source in the Mortal Realms
i kinda like this kind of format , keep em coming :D
Thanks Ktaro

Also buy maggoth lords if you see them and listen to nagash:the undying king for some cool nurgle
Yeah thats a great book to add. Funnily that Nurgle is hiding in other armies story books
@@AoSCoach A lot of nice Nurgle stuff in Blacktalon too.

I think its a tough list to pilot and you might find yourself losing more than you’re winning currently. Its a fun idea but you run thin on bodies.
