Mississauga Halton Enhancing and Sustaining Peer Support Initiative - Support & Housing-Halton

In the Mississauga/ Halton Region of Ontario over 40 Peer Worker Positions (People with Lived and or Family experience of a mental health or substance use concern) are funded and integrated into Mental Health and Addiction services. This is an initiative of Support & Housing-Halton/TEACH supported by the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).
The Peer Workers are supporting people in hospital psychiatric units, residential addiction treatment, employment services and community based services. In order to ensure these positions are sustained in the health care system the peer workers, peer supervisors and the health care leaders are all engaged in ongoing communication and training. This video shares the experience from many of the peer workers, supervisors and health care leaders involved in the initiative.
