I was thinking that, maybe a good idea for a video would be the affects that the war has had on the world and the people of each nation! Clips for that video could be from episodes like: imprisoned, the painted lady, the avatar and the firelord, the storm, the boiling rock etc... and even the beach and the headband to show the negative effects the this was has had even to the people of the fire nation! I think that could be an interesting idea! 💘💘
Another beautiful A:TLA: tribute! It's astounding how skillfully you match the quotes with the scenes you show. You are a true artist! I had two ideas for two videos, but I'm afraid you'll reject them once you hear them. Still, it doesn't hurt to try. First idea: a video about Zuko and Ozai, about their similarities and parallels, which there are far more than many Zuko fans will ever admit. It's not that hard to draw the parallels between Ozai and Zuko when you consider: 1. Ozai was designed to look like a scarless, adult version of Zuko 2. Ozai is stated to have traveled around the world looking for the Avatar, just like Zuko did 3. Ozai gets neglected and scorned by his father in favor of his sibling and punished beyond proportion for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Seriously, the parallels are so obvious when you think about it. And that's without getting into the similarity of Zuko and Ozai's personalities, because both of them seemed to feel entitled to the throne that, originally, wasn't supposed to be theirs (as a reminder, if we go by what the Avatar Wikia says: Zuko was 11 when Lu Ten died, which means he spent 11 years of his life without being a Crown Prince or expecting to take the throne because, by all logic, it should have been Lu Ten's. Yet he slides into "that throne will be mine" mentality within a few years). Both Ozai and Zuko are headstrong, aggressive, brash and impulsive. Both of them usurped the throne from their siblings who were the intended heirs, both of them are hot-tempered, both of them are opportunists, both of them spent years trying to please fathers who could never be pleased. Point being? Ozai is a mirror for Zuko. Ozai is "bad ending Zuko". Ozai is who Zuko would have become if Aang never showed up, if Iroh wasn't around to guide him. And that adds a ton of complexity to Ozai that the majority of the fans are happy to overlook or ignore. He's a horrible human being, yes, but that does not make him a bad character, just like it doesn't make Joker or Darth Sidious (both of whom did much worse stuff than Ozai did) bad characters. Ozai is way more than what meets the eye if you only stop for ten minutes to ponder his character, his possible motivations and his relationships. It's especially clear that he's very much complex when you factor in the parallels with Zuko. Second idea is a direct opposite in fact: a video about Azula and Iroh, about their parallels and similarities which, again, there are far more than many Iroh fans will ever admit. Both were the favorite child of their fathers, both skilled military leaders/strategists and powerful benders, both resented by their siblings over those bonds with their fathers, both were meant to inherit the throne, but didn't in the end because of their siblings, both of them are smarter than their siblings. Iroh and Azula are also the only members of the Fire Nation Royal Family that display an actual sense of humor. Both are highly adaptable to their circumstances: while Zuko struggles to adapt to most circumstances, Iroh fits into every different lifestyle with relative ease, even in prison! Most of it without complaint, which is where again he resembles Azula. Where her failures didn't see the Princess throwing tantrums during Book 2, Iroh as well doesn't throw tantrums of his own when he's not getting everything he wants, exactly as he wants it. Azula also ditches the entire Royal Firebending Procession in favor of traveling with two non-benders and has no problem allying herself with the Dai Li, elite earthbenders, at the end of Book 2. Ergo, she will gladly work with non-benders and benders of other elements if she thinks they are actually capable people. Both Azula and Iroh are pragmatists, they clearly see the bigger picture. Iroh will do what needs to be done. He doesn't take pleasure in it, not necessarily, but if he has to beat five soldiers simultaneously in the Siege of the North, he's going to do it. Again, something he shares with Azula, who doesn't shy away from any similar challenge. Azula and Iroh are also far more hedonistic than their respective siblings, as we see with Iroh when he's enjoying the massages he's getting thanks to his royal status and with Azula when she's enjoying having her hair done at the royal spa. Both Iroh and Azula are by far superior to their respective siblings when it comes to ruling over a nation. Really, there isn't anything related to ruling where either Zuko or Ozai outdo Azula or Iroh. Azula and Iroh were both raised to rule, they learned all they needed to know from their fathers and, in the end, all that training led nowhere. Both Azula and Iroh had it in them to be impressive Fire Lords, better than their respective siblings, but have to find new paths and futures for themselves that allow them (hopefully, in Azula's case) to ponder what kind of lives they would want to live, now that they have the freedom to choose them. Anyway, I wanted to suggest this because I think both of these ideas would make for a good video. They are generally videos that aren't made because most of the fans ignore or refuse to see similarities between these respective characters. The reason for this is obviously because more often than not one character in each pair is demonized (Ozai and Azula) while the other character is idealized (Iroh and Zuko), so they end up pairing Iroh with Zuko and Ozai with Azula simply because Iroh favors Zuko while Ozai favors Azula. However, the similarities and differences between the pairs tell a different story. Lastly, I want to thank Seyary-Minamoto for her amazing analyses on all of these incredible characters, without which I wouldn't have been able to write this comment. Her analyses are incredibly insightful, so if anyone's interested, here are the links to them: seyaryminamoto.tumblr.com/post/161190083156/you-said-ozai-is-the-worst-but-you-still-like-him seyaryminamoto.tumblr.com/post/171397956085/anon-nemesis-since-im-in-the-mood-for-making seyaryminamoto.tumblr.com/post/168202072039/seeing-as-youve-already-given-your-opinion-on-who
Thank you, I always appreciate your long comments ! :D For Zuko and Ozai, I already had one vid planned (I did not intend to focus so much on their similarities, but I'll definitely addsome of them I think, as it is really interesting and not very much explored) For Azula and Iroh, I find the idea really intriguing, but I'd need to find the right song. I think it might be best to make one video with your two ideas, paralelling the siblings Iroh and Ozai with the siblings Azula and Zuko... I'm gonna need to think about it. Lastly, I kind of disagree with you on the parallel where Ozai and Zuko both feel entitled to a throne that was not intended for them : Ozai craved the throne as his father and Iroh were still alive and was ready to kill his father (and his own son) to get it. On the other hand, Zuko did not crave the throne while Lu Ten was alive and was really saddened by his death (cf sad face "he's probably just sad his only kid is gone" + Seng Su missing in action that makes him sad because it reminds him of Lu Ten in "Zuko Alone"). But yes, once he becomes the heir, he tries to learn how to fit this role and feels threatened if it's contested, as rejecting him as the heir becomes intertwined with his father's reject as a whole.
I'm very glad to hear that you like the ideas. I'm certain that you'll make an excellent video on them, I'm just kinda afraid if it's one video people will again slip into that "pairing Zuko with Iroh and Azula with Ozai" mentality, that's why I originally suggested two videos. But no doubt, with your skill in editing, you'll be able to showcase those parallels properly, so my concerns are greatly relieved. I get your point about Ozai and Zuko desiring the throne. But I did say Zuko slipped into "that throne will be mine" mentality *AFTER* Lu Ten's death, not before. I guess I should've been more specific, I meant after Ozai becomes Fire Lord, sorry for the miscommunication. Also, and this is just conjecture, but I doubt Ozai would've killed Azulon if he honestly believed there was a way he could have convinced his father that he is worthy of the throne. Unfortunately, when Azulon ordered him to kill his own son, Ozai knew that was never going to happen. Of course, Zuko didn't desire the throne at that time since it wasn't even his branch of the family that was supposed to inherit it in the first place. Here's where their age difference and subsequent experiences play a factor because, as far as we know, Ozai had endured being passed over by Azulon in favor of Iroh for most of his life (meaning around 40 years at the time), while Zuko was still 11 years old at the time and still had his mother's nurture and care, so he wasn't nearly as hardened or bitter as Ozai was and didn't concern himself so much with the throne. However, once Ursa is gone, Zuko becomes much more possessive of the throne. I am talking about instances such as in S02E01 _The Avatar State,_ where he says "I want it back. I want the Avatar, I want my honor, *my throne",* or in S02E07 _Zuko Alone,_ where he says "My name is Zuko. Son of Ursa and Fire Lord Ozai. Prince of the Fire Nation, and *heir to the throne",* or in S03E20 _Sozin's Comet, Part 3: Into the Inferno,_ the way he arrogantly comes to Azula just as she is being crowned and says "Sorry, you're not gonna become Fire Lord today. *I am."* And all of these instances occurred either after Zuko was already banished from the Fire Nation or after he is already been declared a traitor and an enemy of the Fire Nation, but this obviously didn't diminish his desire or feeling of entitlement toward the throne. These are the primary reasons which make me believe Zuko feels entitled to the throne even when, objectively, he shouldn't. As I said, I realize why you disagree and I respect your opinion. I guess I simply see it differently due to the aforementioned reasons.
