- Samuel Muñoz, Doctoral Graduate, Department of Geography, UW-Madison, explores the mid-11th century Cahokia civilization, a major political, agricultural, ritualistic and artistic center in the central Mississippi River valley near what is now St. Louis, Missouri. The disappearance of the civilization around 1200 has mystified archaeologists and geographers for decades.

Epic. How does this not have more views?
Because most people watch stupid things.
Great presentation!
You should consider performing a FULL ICP analysis of your cores.
Ppm or ppb trace element analysis should track with human activity.
Consider running resistivity and IP surveys in boreholes in your various lakes. The clay platelet content and orientation can be measured with IP and correlated between lakes and TIME.

how do you know that "horseshoe lake" wasn't part of the river back in 1000AD? If it was part of the river, your core samples would not contain accurate info.... correct?
Definitely looks like an Oxbow.
It most likely was at some earlier time. The core samples would have shown river deposits during the period that was studied, but that didn't seem to be the case except during the periods of flooding.@@acousticlead3573
